A Must-Visit Diner: Peg’s Glorified Ham and Eggs
By Jorge Berlioz
Nestled in the heart of Midtown Reno, Peg’s Glorified Ham and Eggs stands as a beacon of classic American diner culture. Stepping inside, you’re immediately immersed in a bustling yet harmonious environment where the staff works like a well-oiled machine—efficient, friendly, and fast. Martha, my server, epitomized this multitasking spirit, seamlessly juggling tasks while still offering top-notch service.
The décor gives the diner an authentic feel, filled with a cozy, homey clutter that reminds you of the classic franchise diners of the past but without the sterile corporate touch. It feels lived-in, with walls adorned in a charming overload of nostalgic memorabilia, adding to the overall experience.
I opted for their famous Glorified Ham and Eggs, and it didn’t disappoint. While I usually prefer my ham a little more cooked, Peg’s version was expertly done—tender and flavorful. The sunny-side-up eggs were perfectly cooked, the bacon crisp, and the hashbrowns were a real standout. It’s rare to find good hashbrowns in Reno these days, but Peg’s nailed it. I also ordered fries on the side, which were seasoned just right, adding a satisfying crunch to the meal. To wash it down, the iced tea was refreshingly crisp—simple, but perfect.
Peg’s is more than just a diner; it’s a Reno institution. It offers a slice of eclectic Americana that’s becoming harder to find. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this spot is a must-visit for breakfast lovers. Its historical significance and prime location make it a quintessential part of the Reno dining scene. Peg’s serves not just food but a sense of place—one that captures the essence of the city itself. Delicious, welcoming, and distinctly local, this diner has stood the test of time for all the right reasons.
