"Patagonia Sur is located in an old red, blue, and yellow house in La Boca. This fine dining spot sort of feels like an Art Deco-style hotel lobby, with bookshelves, chandeliers, antique rugs, and white sofas, all next to a hanging sphere-shaped stove. The menu highlights food from the Southern region of Argentina, with things like humita, a corn cake with garlic and cheese. There are only a few tables in the dining room, so you’ll definitely want to make a reservation for dinner." - Martín Chavesta

The best venue for an intimate private dinner by the maestro, chef Francis Mallmann

Fantastic atmosphere, the service was great as well!!! The food was really really good, maybe, a little bit pricey but definitely worth experiencing if in Buenos Aires. You really get into Malmanns philosophy. Big shout out to the people working there. Always super kind and ready to answer every question!

Dinner was good, but we were a bit disappointed with the menu, considering the price. We had pretty simple dishes with no special ingredients at all. We had Gaspacho, a salad with caramelized peach and plum, a tiny piece of centolla crab, gnocchi (this was specially amazing), merluza and steak with domino potatoes (which we had already had the same in Francis’ restaurants in Mendoza and Santa Cruz). All that for 200 USD, doesn’t seem fair. The setting is really amazing and cozy, with beautiful art and decoration. Service was also nice, although a bit distant. No wonder we were the only couple for dinner on a Tuesday night.

Exceptional gastronomic menu with top Patagonian ingredients. All of this in a beautiful setting with nice artworks and with great staff. The host and sommelier is one of the best I’ve met in this category of restaurant. My favorite dishes were the burnt and breaded aubergine, the octopus, the Patagonian black hake with wild asparagus, and the Wagyu chuck steak which were all cooked to perfection. The wine menu is exquisite, and I would highly recommend the wine pairing (they call it wine tasting). The paired wines are of an exceptional level. Some of the best Pinot Noir (Patagonian) and Malbec I’ve had in my life. Overall, in my countless visits to Argentina, this restaurant is unique in providing a top European level gastronomic experience with unapologetically “wild” Patagonian food.

What an amazing experience that met all of my obscenely high expectations. Incredible experience that cannot be put into words. You need to see for yourself and come hungry!

This was one of our must-eat-at places on our trip since we are big fans of Netflix's Chef's Table series. However, after reading some mixed reviews online and knowing the high price tag, I was afraid the experience may not live up to our expectations. Well, I'm glad to report it did not disappoint! Every single dish was exquisite and being able to dine in this "closed door" restaurant setting was so unique. There was only one other couple there other than our group of five and they were sitting so far away that it really felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. The bread is amazing in the beginning but don't make the mistake of filling up on it like we did because there are seven courses and they are not small.

Google
A must for lovers of exquisite culinary experiences. Francis Mallman’ staff does not disappoint. Every detail from food, wine, ambience carefully and uniquely mastered. The food some of the best I’ve ever eaten in my 31 years in the Restaurant industry. Not an easy place to find or get to as a tourist. But given the limitation of diner’s they seat per night, not a problem. To be sure it is more than dinner your buying. It is an experience and lasting memory.

Yelp
I am shocked by all the good reviews of this restaurant. I have traveled around the world and been to so many chefs tastings and this is by far the worst. There were a couple of good dishes but over all for the price I had better food time and time again during my visit in BA for a fraction of the cost. The empanadas and champagne did start the evening off right. The little waiting area was adorable and the empanadas were delicious - a little hard to eat sitting on a couch but good nevertheless. From there we were sat at our table and the ambience was quaint and charming, probably the best part of the whole experience. The bread came out and even though I knew I shouldn't with 6 courses coming I couldn't resist and it was tasty. First course was a baby carrot salad with goat cheese. This was probably my favorite dish and unfortunately where things started to go down hill. The service was not great and border line terrible at times. I am used to the waiters explaining the dishes as they are served but here we got a very quick run down of everything before the first course with little explanation of the dishes and no menu. For this reason, I'm sorry if my descriptions are a little vague. After the salad...an octopus dish which was good but I've had better. Following that was another glimmer of hope with a gnocchi dish - it was delicious! Very rich and buttery some of the best gnocchi I've ever had. Next, Hake with ratatouille and a sauce. The fish was blah, the sauce was not good, the only saving grace for this dish was the ratatouille which was good. Next, "The Steak" I was so excited for this course because Argentina is known for there steak - disappointment is an understatement. First of all the cut - a chuck steak? For a $160+ pp dinner...really?! I would have rather had a smaller bite of a better cut of steak. It was cooked "rare" chefs recommendation which was probably equivalent to medium and it was SO chewy I could hardly eat it, the chimichurri was okay but to be honest I couldn't really enjoy it because I was concentrating so much on chewing my steak. Served with a side of thinly sliced potatoes which were nothing special. Finally, dessert...they brought out 5 small desserts which again were nothing to brag about - of the 5, I really only like 2 - the lemon tart and the cream. I hate to leave a bad review but for my fellow yelpers, I wouldn't waste your time or money on this place there are too many better options.

Yelp
Having experienced Mallman's restaurants in Mendoza, I had to share with my fiancé. People will warn you that the neighborhood can be a bit on the dangerous side, but we took a cab to the restaurant. As you pull up, the building is totally inauspicious, and we weren't sure it was the correct address. We were greeted with champagne and empanadas. After sitting, presentation of some delicious bread and a wine list. Avoid the bread. It is amazing, but you will need the room for the 6 courses of deliciousness coming. The wine list is good with a lot of focus goes into the native Malbecs of Argentina, which happen to pair nicely with the entire meal. Each course is even better than the previous, but the steak had to be the best cut of meat I have ever enjoyed. If you're looking for an amazing restaurant experience, you definitely will not be disappointed here. Food, ambiance, and service are all top notch.

Yelp
There are restaurants that are good. Then, there are restaurants that are so good, that they are an experience. In comes, Patagonia Sur. I went to Patagonia after seeing Chefs Table on Netflix. I was going to be in Argentina and we figured since we were going to be in the country, We had to experience it. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very chill, felt like I was in somebody's home. There is a hanging wood burning stove which made the place warm and cozy and the dimly lit light made it a very romantic setting. This is a closed door dining experience, so we were the only ones in the dining room at that time, this made it feel like we were in for a treat- and we were. When we first came in, we were greeted and served champagne and an appetizer. Everything we were served was amazing to say the least. There were 6 courses in total and more than enough food. I can't remember the order of the dishes but there was a roasted butternut squash soup, grated corn served with a crisped crostini and brie cheese (this was my fave). Then, there was a a small lasagna, fish with scallops potatoes (also a fave) steak and a small assortment of dessert. Everything, from beginning to end was deliciously decadent. The maitre d, gave us enough time between each dish to enjoy, gave us privacy but somehow always available if we needed anything (we were the only ones in the restaurant) The area of the restaurant is a bit desolate at night which made it hard to get a driver to take us there, but once we were there, the maitre d called a cab for us to get back to the hotel. This was a unique experience that I would love to have again. I would definitely go back. Yes, it is expensive, but when you are getting such quality food and experience, I'd do it all over again!

Yelp
Dined here last month while I was traveling through Buenos Aires. I had been looking forward to going here months prior to my travels, as I'm quite the foodie. The ambience was relaxing and enjoyable. My waiter was phenomenal, timing every course perfectly. He was very attentive & flattered my conversation, which was nice because I was dining alone. The food was incredible. I really enjoyed each and every one of the six courses. My recommendation: Book an early reservation as the restaurant is located in Boca, a kinda sketch neighborhood. I arrived at 7pm & left around 10:30pm. Definitely recommend to anyone wanting to experience true Patagonian inspired food.

Yelp
4 of the 6 courses were excellent. My favorite was the steak cooked over wood with chimichurri. It had three distinct flavors of steak, the sauce and the wood which was a symphony of yummies that I've never had before. His steak was one of the most interesting and complex steaks I've eaten in my life. The pasta course which was some sort of spinach cantalonni was not differentiated. I've enjoyed better at the neighborhood pizzeria in Jersey. So why the average review? It all comes down to value. At $200+ per person, I've had equivalent and/or better meals in more expensive geographies (France, UK, NY, SF, etc.) for roughly the same price. When I'm in a country where I can order some of the best steak, best Italian food and great wine at a fraction of the cost in the states, you would expect some sort of a value play at a place like Mallmann's. You are paying for his brand people. The guy has a one page advertisement for wood in the Aerolíneas Argentinas magazine. Yes he is one of my culinary heroes, but he is milking his brand for all that he can. More power to him. I don't regret going, but I can have three excellent dinners in Buenos Aires for the price of one Mallmann experience. Now that my experience is checked off the bucket list, no need to go back.

Yelp
Amazing place! I pride myself on eating at the San Pellegrino Top 50 and 100 restaurants. This is better than most of those. A little hard to find, but amazing atmosphere and food!

Yelp
Amazing restaurant and service. 6 steps menu with all to taste specially veggies and receipes from Argentina. We loved the place and super excited about been just 2 tables all night. Highly recommended.

Yelp
The food is divine. That's pretty much all you need to know. Great art, fresh flowers, beautiful atmosphere. We were greeted with an appetizer and an aperitif which were fantastic. Then we sat down to 6 courses which were a marathon, but incredibly thought out and the flavors are indescribable. My fiancé and I both agree that we had the best steak of our lives. Word to the wise, stay away from the delicious bread selections because the portions are big and you don't want to ruin your appetite. They have an incredible wine selection, I mean its long and the list is quite impressive. The waitstaff is prompt, professional, and kind. The best part was that the restaurant is a speakeasy type place in a renovated hotel in the sketchiest part of town. Im mean, the cab driver told us not to get out of the restaurant without having a cab waiting. But, that is the point, a hidden gem in the rough, and I personally didn't feel very threatened.

Yelp
Great food but very expensive. Small intimate place with limited seating must get reservation for the occasion to eat at the famous Francis Mallmann restaurant. Very selective wine list with great choices but expensive.
