Malta’s Hotels Are the Stuff of Dreams

"A 13-room boutique hotel right on the edge of the old town, Palazzo Consiglia is both better equipped and rather more opulent than its small size might prepare you to expect. Every room is different, but they’re uniformly luxurious, and all combine historic architectural elements with contemporary interventions in a fantastic, borderline whimsical style." - Mitchell Friedman

"Why we love it: A centrally located stay with spacious rooms, a serene spa, and a rooftop pool The Highlights: - Uniquely designed rooms with themes like the ocean, romance, and travel - Spacious courtyard and rooftop spaces with ample seating - An underground spa with a pool, Jacuzzi, and steam room The Review: Palazzo Consiglia may look unassuming from the outside, but within the hotel guests find 13 spacious rooms, a central courtyard, a small restaurant serving a tasty breakfast, and a cave-like spa with an indoor pool, Jacuzzi, and steam room. Housed in a traditional Maltese townhouse, the property even features a rooftop with a mini pool, a cozy reading nook, and a winter sundeck—not to mention a central Valetta location. Each guestroom here features a unique theme and design. The Industriale room embodies the 1920s with period furniture and metalwork-print wallpaper, while the Mediterranea includes lots of deep blues and bronzes for a luxurious seaside feel. No matter the décor, rooms also come with modern conveniences like well-stocked minibars, e-concierge tablets, LED lighting, and USB charging ports perfectly placed on either side of the bed."

"The baroque city of Valletta, capital of the island nation of Malta, is becoming a hot destination, thanks to its mid-Mediterranean location, its distinctive visual language, and a surfeit of excellent hotels. Among these is Palazzo Consiglia, a 13-room boutique hotel right on the edge of the old town — a hotel that’s both better equipped and rather more opulent than its small size might prepare you to expect." - Tablet Hotels

Stayed here to celebrate my birthday for 3 nights and we were not disappointed. This quaint hotel is in a great location to explore Valletta. We were warmly greeted by Tony who took the time to give us some ideas for places to visit and information about the hotel. ||The hotel itself is beautiful, an old townhouse with a spa, underground pool and rooftop pool. The breakfast was delicious with continental buffet and hot options too. The hotel was immaculate, they kindly upgraded us as we were celebrating and stayed in the Mediterranean room which was huge, comfy bed and lovely shower. The rooftop pool was a welcome relief from the sun. We also booked to use the underground pool for an hour which you then have to yourselves which was also lovely.||All the staff were wonderful, from the chef, waiters, cleaners to front of house, especially Tony who looked after us and nothing was too much trouble. ||Wouldn’t hesitate to come back here.

I am just home after a stay in this wonderful hotel in fabulous Malta. I can honestly say it is the best hotel I have ever stayed in and would highly recommend to anyone thinking of a trip to Valletta in Malta. |My adult Son treated me to this whole trip and he is even more well travelled than me and boy was he impressed. We were warmly welcomed by Tony who gave us a pocket history of the hotel, the town and recommended places to see and restaurants to eat. The whole ambience of this hotel is relaxed, comfortable and so friendly. The staff were professional and made us feel very special. Our rooms were individually decorated and had everything possible for a good stay. Breakfast was buffet style with cooked breakfast made to order. Everything was fresh and plentiful. We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed every moment. I am not sure they need to make any improvements as it is just sheer perfection.

Beautifully restored mansion in the heart of Valletta but still in a quiet road. Great design features throughout this boutique hotel. Amazing service. The hotel has a spa which is bookable via reception and free for hotel guests. Breakfast was amazing, great selection, catering for many tastes. Full english made fresh. From the roof terrace with pool one can even observe firing of cannos from the Upper Baraka Gardens. Everything is very close, even fast ferry terminal to Gozo is a few minutes walk from the hotel. If you want to dip in the sea, a few minutes walk (pass thr Lower Baraka Gardens) is rocky beach in front of Dino's restaurant. I suggest to book directly with the hotel as I found better price on their website than going through booking.com. The room was very spacious with a big comfortable bed. If I stayed longer, I would have preferred a room with a bigger window or balcony.

This is such a lovely hotel - full of character in a perfect location. 5 mins walk to great restaurants and bars yet on a quiet side street so no noise at night. Rooms all have their own character , some have no natural light but this keeps them nice and cool so no issue. Rooftop deck and pool were perfect for chilling after sightseeing , staff will bring you drinks up too. Breakfast was great - you can order eggs and full English as well as using the buffet. Best thing though was the staff - so friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again if I revisit Valletta.

Let me start by saying that Palazzo Consiglia is a wonderful hotel. We are a family of 4 (2 adults, 1 pre-teen and a teen). We stayed 4 nights and absolutely loved our time at this hotel and in Valetta. It is located a short walk (max 10 mins) from the main touristy streets like Republic and Merchant Streets. We were very happy to have our airport transfer drop us off right at the hotel. It seems that that is not the case for some other hotels we saw in the area because many streets near the touristy areas of Valetta are blocked or partially blocked to cars. |Side note: I would not rent a car in Valetta. Parking seems to be very difficult, roads are really tight and as I said before, some roads are blocked off to cars. We were fine on foot and we used the public buses to go out of the city, without issue. ||Back to the hotel…We were impressed from the moment we set foot in the hotel. We arrived in the late evening straight from the airport. We were welcomed with a glass of orange juice and a very thorough explanation of the hotel and surrounding area. It was the best welcome to a hotel we have ever had. Really nice touch. |The hotel is small (13 rooms) but so beautiful. I was really taken with the design/architecture. |Buffet breakfast is included and they also give you the option to order from their a la carte breakfast menu (also included in the price - not an extra cost). The choices are great and they have a bit of everything. |We also used their rooftop pool (not heated). Kids really enjoyed having a swim after a day of walking around in the sun. ||The staff was always very attentive and always wished us a nice day when leaving and greeted us upon our return. We got to know some of the guests as well and it was just lovely. ||All in all, a fantastic little hotel. I would 100% recommend it if in Valetta.

Amazing room, so clean and comfortable in every respect, welcomed like a family member upon arrival and treated like royalty throughout our stay. It’s simple, we will be returning no questions asked. I am just so grateful to every staff member for going out of their way to show kindness at the highest of levels. I even read a stupid review about breakfast, well eggs Benedict, full English, porridge, loads of fruit meats and bread, plus cereals and a chef who will do what ever you want, I don’t know how you can beat this. This is a first class hotel with first class people. Our thanks to everyone for making our holiday and world class one.

Great stay! The location is fabulous..easily walk to restaurants. The spa is great and the air conditioning is much needed after hot days walking around.||The staff was great. The breakfast was good. Highly recommend ordering from the a la carte menu. The bar is open 24/7 and is in a lovely, cool nook of the hotel. ||Highly recommend

Absolutely faultless stay. On a quiet street, but just minutes from the heart of Valletta. This small old palace has been sympathetically and tastefully transformed into a beautiful hotel. The staff were, without exception, fabulous and so helpful. Plenty of choice for breakfast. Very reasonable bar prices, inline with resort prices. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thank you.
