Malta’s Hotels Are the Stuff of Dreams

"A 13-room boutique hotel right on the edge of the old town, Palazzo Consiglia is both better equipped and rather more opulent than its small size might prepare you to expect. Every room is different, but they’re uniformly luxurious, and all combine historic architectural elements with contemporary interventions in a fantastic, borderline whimsical style." - Mitchell Friedman

"Why we love it: A centrally located stay with spacious rooms, a serene spa, and a rooftop pool The Highlights: - Uniquely designed rooms with themes like the ocean, romance, and travel - Spacious courtyard and rooftop spaces with ample seating - An underground spa with a pool, Jacuzzi, and steam room The Review: Palazzo Consiglia may look unassuming from the outside, but within the hotel guests find 13 spacious rooms, a central courtyard, a small restaurant serving a tasty breakfast, and a cave-like spa with an indoor pool, Jacuzzi, and steam room. Housed in a traditional Maltese townhouse, the property even features a rooftop with a mini pool, a cozy reading nook, and a winter sundeck—not to mention a central Valetta location. Each guestroom here features a unique theme and design. The Industriale room embodies the 1920s with period furniture and metalwork-print wallpaper, while the Mediterranea includes lots of deep blues and bronzes for a luxurious seaside feel. No matter the décor, rooms also come with modern conveniences like well-stocked minibars, e-concierge tablets, LED lighting, and USB charging ports perfectly placed on either side of the bed."

This is such a lovely hotel - full of character in a perfect location. 5 mins walk to great restaurants and bars yet on a quiet side street so no noise at night. Rooms all have their own character , some have no natural light but this keeps them nice and cool so no issue. Rooftop deck and pool were perfect for chilling after sightseeing , staff will bring you drinks up too. Breakfast was great - you can order eggs and full English as well as using the buffet. Best thing though was the staff - so friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again if I revisit Valletta.

This hotel was fantastic from start to finish. We were upgraded upgraded to the Deluxe Suite upon arrival. The room was spacious and beautiful with a charming little standing balcony. The pool, spa, and hotel breakfast were all fantastic. I highly recommend a poolside mojito after an afternoon walking around Valletta. All of the workers were friendly and extremely attentive. We will definitely be staying here on our next visit.

Great stay! The location is fabulous..easily walk to restaurants. The spa is great and the air conditioning is much needed after hot days walking around.||The staff was great. The breakfast was good. Highly recommend ordering from the a la carte menu. The bar is open 24/7 and is in a lovely, cool nook of the hotel. ||Highly recommend

Two week stay at this little gem of a hotel in the residential area of Valetta, minutes from the town centre. Warm welcome from staff on arrival and beautiful room, although we needed to change as we requested a shower and this room had a bath. This was done with minimum fuss and we were moved the next day. Rooms very quirky and of a good size, beds comfy and pillows changed to suit our needs. All staff were lovely, breakfast had an excellent choice of continental or a hot selection beautifully cooked to order. Pool and spa a welcome area sfter busy days sightseeing. Thank you Tony and Liliana for your advice and conversation, felt like leaving good friends on our departure. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to visit the island and not wanting a huge hotel.

Amazing room, so clean and comfortable in every respect, welcomed like a family member upon arrival and treated like royalty throughout our stay. It’s simple, we will be returning no questions asked. I am just so grateful to every staff member for going out of their way to show kindness at the highest of levels. I even read a stupid review about breakfast, well eggs Benedict, full English, porridge, loads of fruit meats and bread, plus cereals and a chef who will do what ever you want, I don’t know how you can beat this. This is a first class hotel with first class people. Our thanks to everyone for making our holiday and world class one.

Absolutely faultless stay. On a quiet street, but just minutes from the heart of Valletta. This small old palace has been sympathetically and tastefully transformed into a beautiful hotel. The staff were, without exception, fabulous and so helpful. Plenty of choice for breakfast. Very reasonable bar prices, inline with resort prices. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thank you.

what a lovely quirky hotel near the centre but far enough away to give you a breather from the hectic time when the cruise ships arrive in town. this plce is a little oasis of calm. this is one of the best places we have stayed in for a while, great staff, excellent breakfast and comy beds. the key elements of any stay when abroad. they als wished me happy birthday and made a cake. this was the icing on the stay and didnt affect the review. the hotel isn't perfect but these are minor as to what it gets right. well run and a credit to the valletta.

Just back from a 7- night stay and found almost every aspect of our visit to be excellent. ||Decor across the whole hotel is outstanding, staff are friendly, welcoming and attentive, facilities are excellent for a hotel of this size and the location is perfect. ||Hard to single out any individual for praise but the Nepali night porter who checked us in was excellent as were our housekeeper, the Maltese gent on reception and Salim at breakfast.||If I was being picky, I’d say the quality of breakfast could be a little better, although the range of choices was very good- better quality bread, pastries and fresh juice would be welcome.||Overall though, an outstanding hotel I’d happily return to.
