"Built in 1929, the historic Orpheum Theatre was the pride of the small town of Phoenix, as the only venue between Los Angeles and Denver able to host the traveling vaudeville shows. Designed in the ornate Spanish Baroque style, the intricate murals and moldings of the theatre enhanced the shows that changed weekly. Over the years, it has hosted Hollywood and Broadway celebrities, but by the early 1980s, worn and outdated, it was ready to be demolished. The city of Phoenix saved it from turning into a parking lot by purchasing and renovating it in 1984. Now, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the Orpheum is back to being a beautiful building, hosting great shows. The Orpheum offers free tours on Tuesdays, where visitors can learn about its history and check out its stunning architecture." - MATADOR_NETWORK

"SHN Orpheum Theatre They say the neon lights are bright on Broadway, but if you can't make it to the Great White Way, don't worry, the Orpheum Theatre brings Broadway to San Francisco, hosting the biggest touring shows every season. Built in 1926 as a showcase for theatre magnate Alexander Pantages, the Orpheum (now designated as a San Francisco Historical Landmark.) has welcomed vaudeville acts, silent films, motion pictures, and musical and theatrical entertainment troupes from around the globe. But it's as a Broadway hit venue that locals have come to love the historic playhouse. Acclaimed productions such as The Lion King, The Book of Mormon , and Hamilton: An American Musical have earned standing ovations at the Orpheum, and Wicked ran here for two years!"

I like this theater. Recently saw Hamilton on December31st. We were in the balcony section, and the view was still very good. The walk from the parking lot was a bit sketchy but the theater itself is very nice, old but nice. Lines for the bathroom during intermission were a bit long, but we made it back to our seats before the performance started again.

Google
What an amazing experience. My family and I were able to attend the Hamilton performance at the theatre and Wow, so impressed with the quality of the show. I have been in love with that musical but being able to listen, and watch the performance together, heart filling, eyes tearing experience!! 👏👏👏👏

Historical building with some recent renovations, Orpheum is a decent venue to see musicals, comedy shows, and concerts. Several bar and snack stands are available, and you can also order from the phone and they deliver the drinks to your seat (at least for the Hamilton show that we saw). However, the sightlines from the front side seats are not very good, so splurge for the seats near the center aisle area if you want a better view.

Google
Some like It Hot was classic with a modification for modern sensibilities about crossdressing. Fun dancing (love that style), great songs, wonderful costumes, and the set design and lighting was well intigrated into the dances and coriography. Great time! Orpheum is great theater (building wise as well).

Google
We went to see Hamilton. The play was first class. The theater is beautiful. I was so glad our seats were up close. A wonderful experience. Entering and exiting went smoothly.

Google
Hamilton - must watch!! Such a fantastic experience to watch a show in person , nothing comes even remotely close. The actors, the music, songs and orchestra - wow you cannot look away for a moment.

Google
Very nice, I've heard about the Orpheum theater ever since high school, old school architecture but very comfortable. We had balcony tickets but off to one of the sides and it was still a great view. Probably the worst thing was dealing with the scalpers cuz all the tickets were gone months ago so the tickets ended up costing four times the face value so I kind of feel burned about that. We saw hamilton, it was kind of hard to follow because the monologue was all a rapid rap cadence but you can kind of follow it if you had at least a basic understanding of 1776...

Laura Bowers

Google
Great theater! Beautiful old architecture, and the staff here were wonderful. You could order refreshments from your seat using an app which was very convenient because the lines were long. And the refreshments came in minutes!

Yelp
Went to watch Hamilton this afternoon. It was a lot better than I expected. It was a lot funnier and modern. Rapping and cute dances. Seats were comfortable. Didn't hurt my butt. This is important, especially when you are watching a 3 hour musical. Theater was nice and clean! The bathrooms were well kept and easy to access. All the workers were pleasant. I didn't buy any snacks or merchandise so no review on the concession stands. But we did get goody bags with snacks and merchandise sponsored by the Steph Curry's Foundation, so that was nice! Might come back for back to the future in Feb!

Yelp
Good theater in the Civic Center neighborhood, conveniently located right above the BART/Muni station. We visited last night to watch Hamilton, but chose to drive from the East Bay and park in the multi-story garage across the street (Trinity at 33 Eighth Street) as it was cheaper ($30) and faster (less than an hour). There are dining options about 10-15 minutes walking distance away if you prefer to get dinner before your show. The theater itself was grand in an old-school kind of way. We sat in row J and paid a pretty penny for the privilege, but had to get a booster cushion for our tween as she could not see over the adults seated in front of her. Going forward, we will opt for seats a few rows further back to take advantage of the slope of the theater. Seats and rows were a bit cramped. Acoustics were excellent and we enjoyed the show. Bathrooms were few and far between and there were long lines, but we managed. Happy to return for the right show.

Yelp
I have seen several shows at the Orpheum Theatre and recently saw Hamilton. I've been meaning to write this review and hopefully my experience can help you as well. This review is strictly about the theater and not about the show. First off, the staff is very nice and very helpful with answering questions. I was able to pick up my tickets at the box office effortlessly and then go have dinner nearby. The best parking is at the Civic Center which is a short walk away from the theater. If you park there for several hours, it will the $29 max which is a little expensive but what else can I do. I arrived back to the show about 15 minutes before the show started and was able to get in easily after security and the ticket checks. I went to the bathroom and staff directed me to my seat with no problem. So, a lot of the shows at the Orpheum Theater are 2 hours or more and those seats are tiny and very uncomfortable. I am a short guy but there is absolutely no leg room and I can only imagine the uncomfortable feeling that taller people would have sitting in those seats. Also, if you're short person and there's a tall person sitting in front of you, good luck because they might be blocking your view. When intermission came around, there was no mention of how long intermission would be. The lines for the bathroom are incredibly long. I had to pee very badly and the lines for both men and women barely moved. By the time I got back, the show had already started, so I missed a few minutes and absolutely heard no announcement that the show was starting again. It's very hard to exit the theater especially if you're sitting near the front. I would be terrified if there was some kind of emergency and it would be hard to exit the theater. Hopefully the owners of the Orpheum Theater can consider adding more bathrooms, swapping out the dated seats to more comfortable seats and also making more announcements about intermission and anything else that's important. When the audience is paying hundreds of dollars for tickets to watch a show here, it should be an amazing experience but the theater is a big letdown.

Yelp
Beautiful theatre. I've been here many times, and each time is still amazing. The sound, lights and performances are truly one of a kind. Although the seats are somewhat "stuffy", at least they are padded. The bathrooms here are difficult to work with, so I highly recommend you get a club access seats. They have bathrooms on the first floor that move MUCH faster. Outside environment isn't the greatest, so getting a rideshare is highly recommended. The staff here are very helpful, professional and nice.

Carlton C.

Yelp
The Orpheus is a beautiful and ornately designed historical building that really does not have a "bad" seat in the house. On our visit to watch Some Like it Hot, the staff were friendly and efficient and the concessions were conveniently located and well stocked. There's also a large cafe like area to sit and relax before the shoe or during intermission.

Jo W.

Yelp
I can't believe I haven't written a review of Orpheum Theatre despite so many visits here to see numerous Broadway shows. Over the years, I have seen shows including Phantom of the Opera, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and Lion King. This is a gorgeous theater, the best one in San Francisco to watch traveling Broadway productions. It's always a treat to visit the Orpheum Theatre, which is a locally designated San Francisco landmark. If you're able to do so, if you go in the afternoons around 4-4:30pm on a weekday (not sure about weekends), you can get discounted tickets from the box office. I did this one time after work for Phantom of the Opera, and got to sit in the orchestra for a discounted price, which was so fun! This is for sure the go-to theater for Broadway shows in San Francisco!

Neen M.

Yelp
Easy to get to and believe it or not lots of parking options as long as you do your homework ahead of time and book. Lots of people if you're coming to a show here so you do feel a bit safer in the general area if you're only going to a show. They do not open doors that early so get here with that in mind. You'll be standing around to wait. Bathrooms are older and seem small but the lines move pretty quickly. Inside theatre is beautiful and historic. The seats are older and pretty close to each other and not the most comfortable. You'll be pretty close to your neighbor.

Tiffany A.

Yelp
This theater was built in 1926. The seats themselves are comfortable. Well cushioned. The width of the seats are even spacious for the tush. BUT, there is absolutely no elbow or leg room. You have to place your hands on your knees and sit like a statue for the duration the show. Otherwise you will bump arms AND legs with your neighbor. Being uncomfortable takes away from the overall experience. I couldn't wait for the show to end. Don't be discouraged about sitting in the balcony. The Orpheum is small and intimate. The venue itself is beautiful!

Winnie W.

Yelp
Mrs Doubtfire is so good!! One of the better productions lately... highly recommended! Who would forget the movie hit Mrs. Doubtfire by the wondeful, late, Mr. Robin Williams? This musical production is true to the movie with all the wondeful scenes and great attention to all the detail. If you don't know the movie - watching the movie before seeing the musical is highly recommended.

Audrey L.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite theaters in San Francisco. We were there recently for Some like it Hot show and had a great time. Thater is in great shape, we really enjoyed the new cafeteria that they opened. One suggestion would be to sell more food options other than just a chocolate, popcorn and a fruit salad. Maybe some sandwiches and wraps for those who are actually hungry would be a great idea. Volunteer staff is wonderful. Lines were long to the restrooms for some reason, even for men, which is very unusual.

Noren R.

Yelp
Love it. Definitely a great place to watch musicals. Try it out if you haven't before. It gets stuffy and hot so wear layers and dress appropriately

Lyn L.

Yelp
Just got out of the MJ production... it was awesome! Music, sets, cast, dancing. Effects were incredible! If you can still get tickets, go to see it. We used to parking app and paid $60.. I'm not sure it was necessary or worth it. Since I'm from out of town, I'm not familiar with the parking and was nervous about the area. We attended the matinee so it did not feel scary Rocking out at the end was awesome. I loved it!

Jill M.

Yelp
Saw Hamilton and it was truly magical! What a wonderful experience with helpful and friendly people working at the show.

Yelp
The Orpheum Theatre is a large venue that seats almost 2,000 people and therefore perfect for a production as towering and magnificent as The Lion King. In the 15 years since I've been away, the Orpheum is beginning to look down at the heels with chipped wood, aisle-side arm rests that break away too easily (to accommodate late-comers, it's too narrow for disabled seating) and tired, blood red carpeting and velvet seats. Soaring ceilings, cornices an odd homage to gothic architecture, but in the dark the theater's magic comes to life with the belief you're in Africa with the shimmering, hot sun and dust rising from the sand.

Kenji Y.

Yelp
The show was excellent and had a wonderful night. However, I hate coming to the Orpheum theatre. * Parking. It's around $30 for parking. If that's expensive or cheap, I have no clue in today's world. * The vicinity. The area is just horrible. Human feces on the ground. Permanently closed Whole Foods. Tons of homeless people around. Aggressive drivers honking around. Guests were fast walking to their cars. * It's an old building. Opened in 1926. * A well designed theater gives everyone a clear view of the stage. This place does not. I was seated next to the center isle so the guy in front's head is blocking my view. I'm sure I'm blocking the guy behind me's view too. * Loud air conditioning turned on during the show that caused everyone to start coughing. It was loud. Everyone kept looking up wondering what it was. * The seats were crunched like a Southwest Flight. Kept getting kicked in the back, but I don't blame the person behind me. * QR code to order drinks to your seat? Probably good for Orpheum's money, but this is a horrible idea for guests that are here to enjoy the show. * Please close the doors once the show starts. Let them in once the song ends. Why ruin the show for everyone that were responsible and came seated on time? Anyways, I know The Orpheum is a historical building and we all have a lot of memories with it so sorry to rant about it. To end on a positive note, the staff members were very helpful and friendly!

Yelp
Since my last review, I've seen Hamilton here in November 2019 with Judi M. with rear/side mezzanine tickets via Goldstar, and most recently, Disney's The Lion King in December 2023 with Sonia C, in the left orchestra section row U. I tend to stick to weekend matinee showings, but on rare occasion may attend a weeknight performance if it's a short run. The Orpheum is convenient to the Civic Center BART station, located at the corner of Market and Hyde at 8th Street. I also usually reserve parking in advance; on SpotHero this time I reserved a space at the SOMA Grand Garage which is less than a 5-minute walk (0.1 mile) down 7th to Market, although the theatre's recommended garage is actually the Trinity Garage right across the street. A lot of unhoused folks in the vicinity, although I did also see a decent police presence as well. Not sure if there is a purse size policy, but security checked bags at the door. Sonia's pepper spray was prohibited from being brought into the theater, but was able to be "checked" with head of security and reclaimed after the show. Security staff was polite, as were the ushers at the door to the orchestra section. E-tickets were able to be scanned from smartphones. Note that for Lion King, curtain time was strict and latecomers were subject to a 20-minute wait to be seated by staff -- in the meantime watching the start of the show from the lobby or VIP area on small monitors. These monitors were smaller than some of the wall posters, to give you an idea. We had orchestra seating this time, but be aware too that there are no elevators to access the upper levels (stairs only), the one elevator I saw goes between the VIP area and the basement restrooms. Seats are old (some need a little coaxing/help to fold up on their own), and cramped tight. The interior of the entire building is lavishly carved and ornately decorated, acoustics okay. Live orchestra for this show. Another reviewer mentioned that seat cushions/boosters are available for little people (young and old) too, good to know! I didn't leave the seats during intermission, but I did not notice the lights flash/blink to indicate people should return to their seats, so mind the time. I did not brave the restrooms line or concessions during intermission, but for the kiddos I did see buckets of popcorn for sale, kid-friendly and Lion King-themed adult cocktails. The tour also had merchandise for sale such as shirts, hoodies, blankets, ornaments, plushies, magnets, keychains, pins, totes, drawstring/cinch bags, water bottles, mugs, souvenir programs, soundtrack CDs, dolls, snowglobes, etc. The staff at the merch area seemed busy whether size exchanges, refunds, or keeping the lines moving. If you don't want to pay for the professional photo op at the VIP area, there are usually posters framed near the box office, or the mural on the wall near the main entrance. The marquee can be too tall though for a good selfie.

Yelp
LION KING @ ORPHEUM THEATRE was spectacular. The show was truly amazing with every scene and every prop and song just awe inspiring! We had the orchestra seats so it was extra special since we were so close. With all the live action in the aisles. Show was packed with young and old family members. This North American Tour is presented by Disney. And they make sure to bring that sand joy and passion to the project ... One of my favorite songs.. Lea halalela... can't wait to see it again !!

Serena M.

Yelp
We went to Orpheum Theatre yesterday to see the Lion King performance. It's my second time going to this theatre. It's such a beautiful theatre. We rode the BART to get to the theatre. It's very convenient, you just walk up the stairs from the BART and you're pretty much there. Inside they had merchandise available to purchase for the Lion King and they also had snacks and beverages to drink. The Lion King performance was great! We loved all the costumes and the singing and everything. There was also a QR code on the seats to order snacks and drinks so you wouldn't have to stand in line. We tried out the QR code and ordered some snacks. It was very reliable and our snacks came out delivered to our seat pretty quick. We got a bottle water, Red Vines, and a bucket of popcorn. It was a bit pricey but it was nice to have a snack while watching the performance. I hope to come back to check out their next performance the next time we are in town.

Dian M.

Yelp
The Orpheum is always a treat to visit. The architecture inside the auditorium is a perfect backdrop for any show. I'm so glad they now allow you to bring in beverages and snacks! Bathroom lines, especially for women, are notoriously long. There are stairs involved! Luckily, nice dirty handrails as well. Pro tip, the lines for concessions are shortest in the front bar area, facing the front windows

Allan Y.

Yelp
Saw the Michael Jackson Musical here at this beautiful theater. The seats were comfortable. Sat at the left side of the Orchestra section 27 row back, not bad seats but next I would get center. Overall the theater is very clean and the staff was very helpful!!!

Elma C.

Yelp
The Michael Jackson Musical is a heartfelt tribute to the King of Pop. This musical offers a captivating experience that celebrates Michael Jackson through great music and stunning visual performance. The story leads the audience through Michael's life as a child prodigy to his rise to global superstardom. It chronicles the life and career of Michael Jackson with authenticity and reverence. The narrative delves into all MJ's personal struggles, and triumphs. I was genuinely touched by humanity hidden behind the legend that was Michael Jackson.

Erich L.

Yelp
First time going here and saw the legend John Cleese in a full venue. Great place to see events. The seats are a little small but overall it's very nice inside and I would go to see something else here.

Helen L.

Yelp
Everyone, go see Mrs Doubtfire, based in SF. There was one joke of how expensive it is to rent in SF. Look for Janet Reno. The voice of Kermit, thr frog or Darth Veder. It was funny and touching. The singing was amazing. Everyone did such a great job. If you stand in line around 4:30 pm, you can buy cheap tickets which start selling at 5:30. It is so worth it. The show starts at 7:30 and ends at 10:20 pm. Parking was as expensive as the tickets. Long live musicals!

john j.

Yelp
Always a great place to see the best Broadway shows. We are lucky to have this gem in the bay area for all us theater buffs.

Brandon B.

Yelp
When the SFO was on strike, I went to Wicked instead, not having seen it. Pretty sold out, only a few tickets left! The theater is one of those grand old dames with a lot of baroque details and design, close to the complex of other arts venues and city hall. The place was NOT designed well for large crowds: bathroom lines were long and down the stairs, food and drinks were a little hard to get to, the hallway leading to the back of the theater is unnaturally narrow; however they seem to know how to help the crowd well enough despite this. All food and drink were allowed inside: what follows is stained and dirty carpets/seats but they were comfortable. The sound system and lighting seemed to work well and the production was high level.

Haiyang H.

Yelp
Revisited again here to watch lion king and learned something new. Doors are opened to seating about 30 min before the show. Booster cushions for little ones or shorties like me are only available at door 5. Larry ( the volunteer at this important area) may first come across as grumpy but was actually quite nice once you start to chat with him. Everyone was still a joy to interact. They try really hard to keep the show going right. If I have to provide constructive advice, things will include: - restroom... the lines are insane.... - food and drinks.... Again.... Lines are insane..... some vending machines could have helped. The rush was too much to beat with children.... But we will still come back for more... the details of this place is just so beautiful. I appreciate the small window to peak into the history and the old days.

Salvador Z.

Yelp
First and foremost, I love going to the theatre! there's just something about going out on a night to the City and watching a performance. Especially at the beautiful Orpheum Theatre. I've been here a few times and most recently saw the Lion King. Spectacular! Pro tip: I use the SpotHero APP to reserve parking ahead of time when going into the City. Ensures a good spot in a garage so it will be close to the theater when getting out late.

Annabelle R.

Yelp
I've seen numerous broadway shows and musicals here over the years, ever since I was a kid, including Miss Saigon, Wicked, Avenue Q, Phantom of the Opera (multiple times), and most recently, Aladdin. The production and performances are always amazing. This past weekend, we tried a couple of their themed specialty cocktails (Never Had a Drink Like Me, and Sands of Time), and both were pretty tasty. It was a bit stuffy in the lounge before the show, but plenty of seating available to hang out with friends and family while enjoying our drinks and snacks (they don't offer actual meals here). In the auditorium, there are no cupholders with the seats, so that's an inconvenience. However, the view of the stage is decent from most seats, whether sitting in the orchestra sections or the balcony (I've sat pretty much everywhere in this venue). The architecture and decor at this theater are beautiful, I try not to take for granted just how impressive it is, having been here so many times. The service is great too, from ushers to bartenders, I've never encountered a problem. My friend has even made special requests for accessible seating and they are always very helpful and accommodating. Some of the most beloved musicals take place at the Orpheum Theatre, so I have no doubt I'll find a reason to return yet again.

Annie W.

Yelp
Went to the Orpheum for Michael Jackson, the Musical. Musical aside (it was fantastic!!), the theatre itself is a beautiful piece of art and architecture. Lots of interesting embellishments on the walls and ceiling and seats are very comfortable. We were in center orchestra, row K, and had a terrific view of the stage. Perfect place to watch an amazing performance!

L B.

Yelp
Beautiful architecture. Great place to see a musical. It's a bit small, but a fantastic place to be. I've been there on more than a few occasions and would definitely go back.

Deborah H.

Yelp
Came here to see MJ the musical. This is a great show if you have not seen it. This is my 2nd time here but first time sitting down stairs. Beautiful theater lots of art carvings on the ceiling and walls. There is a nice little cafe lounge area for you to sit in during intermission. The drinks are expensive but the one I had was good. The bathroom lines are long. If using the ladies and you are able it is worth climbing the stairs down to the lower level stalls much more stalls and no line. We sat on the right side seats L18 and L20. When my husband bought the tickets it said that those seats would not have an obstructed view however the view was definitely obstructed. Any performance far right of the stage we couldn't see . I would visit the theatre again but definitely would need seats in the middle.

Heather D.

Yelp
Still love this place so much...mostly. So convenient and the shows are spectacular. The sets for the fantastic MJ were vibrant and so creative. The sound quality is excellent, you won't miss a word unless you have noisy neighbors. Not so great are the crazy long lines for the restrooms at intermission (mostly for the females or those identifying) and the equally long lines at the concession areas. They are missing out on tons of money making me stand in line for one and never getting to the other.

Chaye U.

Yelp
Love going to the theaters!!! I watched Jersey Boys almost 2 decades ago here and then again Les Missrables just 2 months ago. Same experience. Same good and well kept theater!

Vidya K.

Yelp
We went to watch Les Miserables at the Orpheum theatre. I had accidentally booked the accessible seats and when I realized on the day of the show I called them and they promptly exchanged my seats for regular ones. It was easy and they were very accommodating. The show was brilliant. The audio was amazing. Our seats in row Z had a very good view of the stage. What i didn't like - the seats are extremely close to each other and if you are tall you are sitting scrunched up. Next the bar at the theatre. Avoid. I paid $25 for a very average glass of wine. Cocktails are similarly priced. Before tips. But it is a lovely theatre and the cast was great. I would go again but skip the bar. We took the Bart instead of driving. It's very convenient. You can get out of the Bart and enter the theatre in 3 mins. Another plus for the theatre.

Arielle A.

Yelp
Came here for the first time to watch Dear Evan Hansen. This location is extremely accessible by Muni--in fact, the bus stop is located directly in front of the theatre! My friend and I ordered rush tickets to be picked up onsite, and that process was smooth and quick. On the way inside, security checked our bags. We had to check in our pepper sprays for safety reasons, but we picked them back up after the show. We had time to spare, so my friend and I explored around the area. The lounge/cafe area is located to the left once you enter in the building and the restroom is on the lower floor. I believe there is another lounge room but it was closed at the time. The auditorium is big, however, the seats are pretty compact and walk room is quite small, so it can be a bit of a hassle walking in and out. The architecture of the auditorium looks and feels grand though which I love! As for the show itself, it was great. My friend and I were lucky to secure orchestra seats, so the view from the stage was very clear. The actors were amazing, and I definitely cried throughout the performance. Would definitely come back again to see other musicals (Hadestown I'm looking at you).

Carolen M.

Yelp
I've been to the Orpheum for many shows. The recent trip was for "Dear Evan Hansen" and there was not a dry eye in the audience. Very good show. For this show, I would actually suggest to sit in Mezzanine as you're able to see the projections on the floor which I didn't notice when I first saw the show in Broadway as we were seated (albeit in a different theater) Orchestra level. I do love a Sunday matinee as parking can be a little easier if you drive in. Now are the acoustics and sound balancing great? Not all songs are created equal. There were some questionable times during songs where it was too loud or one mic was a little too heavy, but overall not too shabby. The seats are a little tight in terms of from booty to knees and if you're tall, you may need to side saddle it or find a seat near the aisle. There are bathrooms on every level and even a lower level which is helpful. During Frozen, the bathroom line for Mezzanine was horrible, but go up one level to balcony and there was absolutely no line. So make sure you try every level if you need a speedier restroom trip. What is great about the Orpheum is the close access to BART if you want to travel via public transportation. We've been driving in and have had luck on Sundays as most parking is free that day on the streets and we just buffer our time to make sure we have time to walk over and get situated. Unfortunately there has been an increase in homelessness in the area which makes us a little more cautious walking as well as the many smells and things on the floor or just encounters with folks which have been ingrained in my mind. Just be safe.

Nancie D.

Yelp
Recently saw the Lion King.. ahhhhmazing! The venue is solid not a bad view from any seat. Minus one star because it cost 40 dollars for a popcorn, red vines, water and a Shirley temple. We were able to get parking across the street thru spot hero. Would go see another production at this location of it isnt being offered in San Jose.

Yelp
Last night I went to see Funny Girl Show at this lovely Orpheum Theater. In my many travels of theaters and stages throughout my career as a principal ballerina, I have to say I love the Orpheum Theater, i feel the magic there always. Love the atmosphere, architecture and attention to detail in their design. I came early in order to park my car for free a couple of blocks away. This time I was pleasantly pleased to see they opened up a bar inside the theater with plenty of seats. The bartender treated me well with a generous pour of Patron Tequila with lime and soda. I sat on the couch by the window with my friend Barb, as we chatted, enjoying people watching. I saw someone next to me eating popcorn, so of course I had to have it too. The theater allows you to bring drinks and popcorn to your seats. I sat in row A in the lodge which was lovely. Funny Girl was amazing - great cast with an up and coming star, Katerina McCrimmon. A talent like Judy Garland or Billie Holiday. She brought down the house. I so loved seeing Melissa Manchester perfectly take on the role and voice of Mrs. Brice. It's always fun connecting with her since we both graduated together from the famed High School of Performing Arts in Manhattan. Izaiah Montaque Harris was an amazing tap dancer, and Stephen Mark Lewis as the charming, talented Nick Arnstein had a most amazing voice The dancers, dancing and choreography was spot on and entertaining. If I could, I would mention everyone for it is the ensemble that really makes a show great! Thank you to all.

Yelp
Very cool little venue. This actually was my first tjme coming here and I had an amazing time. Me and my girlfriend saw Dear Evan Hansen and it was an awesome show. But I really just wanted to mention a couple of things. There is a parking lot across the street and if you look online on Spot Hero you can reserve parking in advance. Just keep in mind that one of the lower levels is for a grocery market. There also is a rise in homeless in the area so when walking to the theater just make sure you are safe/alert. The theater is cool. I loved the architecture of the inside with the lions across the top. We wanted some wine to sip on during our show and the guys serving drinks downstairs told us we could bring the entire bottle with us...Sweet! I seriously had to ask twice just to be sure lol. But yes its fine. If you were kinda lost like I was, theres multiple people there that can help you to your seat. Finally I just wanted to mention that if you are sitting in the mezzanine like I was, there are bathrooms upstairs. I found those bathrooms to be empty for the most part. Definitely wouldn't mind coming back to this theater to see some more shows in the future!

Yelp
Long live the Orpheum theater and all of the lovely shows that grace the stage! I've frequented this iconic theater several times as a Bay Area native - from Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, Hamilton, My Fair Lady, Lion King, Book of Mormon, to the most recent Moulin Rouge. Booking process is easy online and there are different sites where you can see the view from your seat. I've sat in different sections and there isn't a bad seat in the house. For Moulin Rouge we had Orchestra Row V, seats 105-109 and they were fantastic. Getting there is easy via Bart Civic Center exit. If that is not your jam (theater is near the TL which can be a little sketchy at night), there is a conveniently located garage across the street, Trinity Place parking or you can try Spothero to get a better deal. I try to go a little early to check in, get settled, take any pics and admire the gorgeous architecture inside. They really do an excellent job with the musical sets. The shows are always high caliber with gorgeous sets, music, and stellar vocals/acting. Next on my Broadway musical list is Six in March 2023!

Yelp
Saw wicked! Another great musical with amazing singers. paid extra for the "lounge" completely worth it. included in the $95/person is bites, one free drink, modern and clean bathroom with no line! during intermission they served french dessert's macarons etc. access to no lines for the bathroom was worth it!

Yelp
This theater is absolutely gorgeous! We loved just looking around at the architecture and details. We got in relatively quickly before the show, but it did take a little while after the show (and a walk down the block) to find the Uber. Seats were pretty comfy as well. Be warned that concessions, as expected, are super pricey. A box of sour patch kids was $7 and a Diet Coke $6.50.

Yelp
Why have I never been here before? The venue is gorgeous. We came here to see Moulin Rouge which is now my favorite Broadway show ever. The seating in the mezzanine was very comfortable and still had a great view where you can see all of the details. I like that they had a bar at our level, although it got pretty packed with a long line. Shoutout the the only bartender who was jumping back and forth between two registers to get people through quicker. He was amazing. Unfortunately they didn't have many of their booze free beverages listed (maybe cover those up?!?) or any sparkling water. That's my only gripe. Besides drinks they had three different types of popcorn and several chocolate/candy options, which was cool. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Gorgeous theater in downtown SF. Outside of the theater is not the greatest at all, but inside you're transported to another time. It's beautifully ornate, with plenty of helpful staff at every turn to help direct you to your seat. We caught the Moulin Rouge before it left and WOW! The sound and lighting in this theater is top notch. The seating is not updated so it's tight with no cup holders and isn't tiered the best, therefore a lot of switching seats to be able to see over heads was necessary. Many bars and concessions and although convenient and super tempting I'd rate them a 2/5. We paid $20 each for Froze that I couldn't drink. It tasted like what you buy in the slushee kiosk in the streets of NOLA. The popcorn was pre packaged nicely and was as good as popcorn can be. I didn't check the price of the popcorn but I know the total for 2 frozes, 1 bottle of water and a popcorn was $63. Yikes ! I can't speak to the women's restroom since the intermission restroom situation was complete chaos. The line for the women was easily 60 women deep, so the kind attendant let us know that the men's room had stalls so a new line formed for the men's room which was kinda small. I'd say try to hold it until the end and definitely go before the show starts. All in all, we of course will be back to catch a show, sans concessions.

Yelp
Les Misérables is currently at the Orpheum. The theatre itself appears well maintained, getting to the theatre & trekking through the area leaves a lot to be desired - come on City of SF get your act together! Once inside the rest falls away. There are lines everywhere, to get in, to grab a drink or popcorn. Feel as it they need to hire more folks to work the concessions. The show had gorgeous sets, the main disappointment was some of the actors failure to pronounce their words clearly while singing.

Yelp
Thanks Chen for the wine! And Ken for the great greeting security and ushers are awesome ! Half way into the show. I realized the seats are very uncomfortable. I'm 5'6" and my legs feel cramped in the seats. I feel sorry for folx taller than me. Also. The seats in the very front. Folx are so tall that they block basically seat for the smaller folx behind them. This is sad. Especially when someone pays $300-$400 for a seat and their visual is basically blocked by a 6 footer in front of them. That's why put Down a star.

Yelp
Came to see MJ The Musical and the musical itself is 5 stars! A MUST SEE! The theater itself is nice, very historic and small enough to where there isn't really a bad seat. I was sitting in the balcony for the MJ show and I was able to see everything no problem. The people in front of me had binoculars but I feel that was dramatic because you definitely don't need them. There's a good amount of restrooms that really only have crazy lines during intermission. Each level also has its one food and beverage bar too so if the one on the main entrance floor is crazy just go up a level. My only real negative is the seats offer little to no leg room and when you're watching a musical that's 2.5 hours long you start to get really uncomfortable. I'm 5'7 which I don't consider tall and I had to keep readjusting throughout the show trying to make it to intermission to get up and stretch. Other than that, this is a great place to come see a show!

Yelp
Overall, great experience! The theater has some beautiful architecture. Fairly organized processed to get in if you pre-buy your tickets, but it's not entirely clear when you get there that you don't have to wait in line unless your tickets are at will call. The snacks options were lacking but you're there for the entertainment, so it's not a huge deal. We saw Aladdin and it was superb!! I absolutely loved the production, and would go watch it again. The acting, singing, dancing, costumes, and most of all, the effects, were outstanding! The staff at the theater were very friendly and helpful. It was cool to be able to scan the QR code at your seat to order snacks if you wanted!

Yelp
Amazing! Simply amazing! The theater is fantastic! Beautiful architecture, comfy seats, great acoustics. We just saw Moulin Rouge! Fabulous! You have to go! It's here until 11/6/2022. Wonderful acting, singing, dancing, fun, fun! Took my breath away it was so engaging. Perfect!
