Visiting the New York Cafe in Budapest was one of the highlights of my trip, and I can see why it’s often called “the most beautiful cafe in the world.” That said, it’s also one of the most crowded. When I arrived, there was already a long line outside, and I had to wait nearly half an hour to get in. Once inside, the grandeur makes up for it, but it’s definitely not a quiet, cozy cafe experience.
The interior is absolutely breathtaking. high gilded ceilings, marble columns, chandeliers, and hand-painted frescoes everywhere you look. It truly feels like stepping into a palace. However, it’s also filled with tourists snapping photos from every corner. While I understand the temptation, it really is gorgeous, it does get a bit annoying when people hover too close or stretch over your table trying to get the perfect shot. Personal space becomes something of a luxury here!!
The service was okay, polite but not particularly warm , and understandably rushed due to the constant flow of visitors.
What I really enjoyed, though, was the gentle classical music playing in the background. It added an elegant calm to the otherwise hectic atmosphere .
Overall, the New York Cafe is a must visit for its beauty and history, but go prepared for crowds, cameras, and a bit of chaos alongside the charm.
