My Favorite Spy Stories Are Set in Europe, so I Planned an Espionage-themed Trip Across the Continent

"The hotel’s famously lavish café presents a Disneyfied take on Belle Époque café society: ornate décor and theatrical presentation draw cruise-weary tourists who linger over goulash, pose for selfies, and indulge in an escapist, staged version of historic urban café life." - Chris Wallace Chris Wallace Chris Wallace is a New York-based writer and photographer. Over 125 years old, it was the nicest cafe in the world at the time it was built where artists and writers gathered. Nowadays, they have lots of foie gras on the menu. Bourdain ate: goose liver terrine, pork throttle stew. Lunch date: Peter Zilahy, poet and performing artist.

Came here for my birthday breakfast. Interior was amazing. Ordered eggs Benedict, it was mediocre at best. Ice coffee and vanilla ice cream was amazing. Tiramisu was tasty and very good quality. Coffee here was nice. However the server, plumpy bearded guy who served us was very rude and cold. He just throw the receipt on the table after I paid. I definitely wouldn't come here again for that very reason. After gazillion times try to get his attention for us to pay. He finally came with a sour face. Customer came here and paid for their food. If you didn't like your job then don't work there. The other servers was very nice except him. Come here for the ambience which lived up to it's hype. Definitely would not come again for the server attitude himself.

Absolutely stunning place — no wonder they call it the most beautiful café in the world! We waited in line for a bit, but it moved quickly, and it was totally worth it. The atmosphere is breathtaking, elegant, and full of history. We tried two hot chocolates(one banana flavor and one Dubai chocolate), both were fantastic! It’s definitely overpriced, but it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so totally worth it.

My wife and I stopped in to the New York Cafe one evening during a recent trip to Budapest, and it’s truly lovely. My cappuccino was excellent, the apple pie was wonderful and not too sweet, and my wife enjoyed mulled wine. Prices are higher than other local places and the lines can be long at times (so go after dinner), but the ambiance more than makes up for it. We really enjoyed it and we’re sure you will too.

We visited the New York Café and absolutely loved it! The food was delicious, and the place itself is truly beautiful ❤️ a breathtaking experience. The service was perfect as well. Our waiter, Roland, was exceptionally polite and attentive. Thank you to him and the entire service team for the fast and courteous service, and to the chefs for the wonderfully delicious dishes. It was an unforgettable experience!❤️

Visiting the New York Cafe in Budapest was one of the highlights of my trip, and I can see why it’s often called “the most beautiful cafe in the world.” That said, it’s also one of the most crowded. When I arrived, there was already a long line outside, and I had to wait nearly half an hour to get in. Once inside, the grandeur makes up for it, but it’s definitely not a quiet, cozy cafe experience. The interior is absolutely breathtaking. high gilded ceilings, marble columns, chandeliers, and hand-painted frescoes everywhere you look. It truly feels like stepping into a palace. However, it’s also filled with tourists snapping photos from every corner. While I understand the temptation, it really is gorgeous, it does get a bit annoying when people hover too close or stretch over your table trying to get the perfect shot. Personal space becomes something of a luxury here!! The service was okay, polite but not particularly warm , and understandably rushed due to the constant flow of visitors. What I really enjoyed, though, was the gentle classical music playing in the background. It added an elegant calm to the otherwise hectic atmosphere . Overall, the New York Cafe is a must visit for its beauty and history, but go prepared for crowds, cameras, and a bit of chaos alongside the charm.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Roland was absolutely the best waiter I’ve ever had! From the moment we sat down, he greeted us with a big smile and made us feel so welcome. He was extremely friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. You can tell he genuinely enjoys what he does — his positive attitude and great energy made the whole experience so much better. The service he provided went above and beyond our expectations. If you visit, definitely ask for Roland — he truly delivers outstanding customer service and makes your dining experience unforgettable!

Probably the most beautiful café in Budapest. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a different era. The interior is luxurious, and the cakes and coffee are both delicious — creamy and sweet enough. The staff are super friendly and will help you find a table. I gave it 4 stars because they charge a service fee, which seems to be common in Budapest. If you have time, this place is definitely worth a visit — it’s amazing!

We are visiting Budapest for the first time and was advised to visit this car but to be prepared for a long wait to get in. Pleased we only waited 20mins. Building decor is amazing!! Food was very nice. Had to chase our drinks but an overall very enjoyable visit. Dora, our waitress, was very welcoming and pleasant and apologised for us having to wait for our drinks.
