This Burlingame gem serves up hefty lobster rolls and fresh shellfish in a lively spot with plenty of seating—perfect for a quick, tasty seafood fix.
"New England Lobster Market & Eatery brings the East Coast seafood dining experience to the Bay Area. Though the shop opened as a wholesale shellfish distributor in 1987, it’s since expanded to a restaurant location in Burlingame, which serves an extensive menu of seafood platters, salads, and other fare. All the fish served at the restaurant was caught no more than two days prior. Even with the impressive array of seafood offerings, lobster reigns supreme — the lobster roll, lobster corn chowder soup, and lobster tail platters are the most frequently ordered dishes." - Cathy Park
"You won't have to wait in line any longer at this palace of seafood—thanks to a remodel there’s even more seating inside and out. Set in an industrial warehouse, the space features a nautical theme—painted buoys hang on the walls and seawater tanks are filled with crustaceans. Expect nothing less than a fresh meal in this buzzing eatery, which is both a fish market—selling oysters on the half shelf—and restaurant.Kick things off with the creamy lobster-corn chowder. (For dedicated fans, frozen to-go quarts are offered.) Then go for broke with the lobster roll served three ways: dressed with mayo; naked (with drawn butter); and seasonal (avocado and bacon). But, it's the lobster plate that steals it away, starting at one and going up to four pounds." - Michelin Inspector
"Restaurants including Burlingame's New England Lobster Co. and SoMa's Luke Lobster won't take David Foster Wallace's fascination off the menu, saying the issues surrounding the lobster's endangerment are being addressed." - Paolo Bicchieri
"The only thing that’ll kill you is the parking situation, which is an exercise in extreme patience at just about any time of day. But once you make it to the front of the line (or, better yet, opt for online ordering), the virtues of this classic seafood market and restaurant are self-evident: maybe the Bay Area’s most convincing version of a Maine-style lobster roll, which purists can order plain, with just a tub of drawn butter on the side. There are also Dungeness crab sandwiches to be had, if you want to stick with a more local crustacean treat. In addition to curbside pickup, there’s also outdoor patio seating available." - Lauren Saria, Luke Tsai
"Kick things off with the justifiably beloved lobster-corn chowder, thick with sweet, succulent meat in a rich and creamy-but not overly heavy-stock. Then go for broke with the outstanding lobster roll, lightly dressed with mayo on a fluffy, buttery roll and accompanied by excellent house-made potato chips." - The MICHELIN Guide
