Nestled in an industrial space, Neighbor Bakehouse offers an inventive array of flaky pastries and light bites, all crafted with exceptional care.
"Find Sol Bakery typically on Mondays (with the occasional Saturday) at various coffee shops and bakeries around the city including Neighbor and The Coffee Movement. The pop-up bakery has a rotating seasonal menu, but their mainstays are what you’ll want to focus on. The ham and cheese puff is like a more compact version of a traditional ham and cheese croissant, concentrating all of the flakey layers, meat, and dairy into a few delicious bites. Also order the cardamom bun that’s chewy, soft, and barely sweet as well as whatever focaccia they haven’t sold out of. You’ll find a lot of neighborhood regulars constantly refilling the line, so be sure to find the hours and dates on Instagram and get there as early as you can." - Patrick Wong
"Alex Pong’s Paper Son pop-up is a crowning achievement in the city’s vast coffee game, merging his Asian American heritage with his top-tier espresso and pour-over skills. The espresso passionfruit tonic is a bubbly love letter to the fruit notes coffee snobs love, and Paper Son’s riff on Thai iced tea, the Thai Tea Cloud, is as well-bodied an iteration as they come in San Francisco. The team opened a second location downtown at 303 Second Street N102 that’s open Monday through Friday, thanks to the city’s Vacant to Vibrant program." - Dianne de Guzman, Paolo Bicchieri
"Greg and Christine Mindel are the force behind this favorite neighborhood bakery whose goods can be found around the city. Stop by for coffee, sweets like twice-baked stuffed croissants, and don’t skip the famous everything croissant, dusted with everything spice like a bagel and filled with cream cheese." - Justine Jones, Daisy Barringer
"Baker Greg Mindel slow-ferments his dough, which lends a distinctive tangy taste to his exquisitely flaky layered pastries. Neighbor products are available at top coffee shops around the city—but the best, most experimental tastes are here at the source (don't miss the sauerkraut, smoked cheddar, and peppadew tart studded with black sesame). Pro tip: Order two. You won't regret it." - Hearsay Supper Club
"If you’re anything like us or Oprah, you love bread. And if you’re going to wait in line for it, it better be more than worth it. Neighbor Bakehouse makes great croissants, but what takes this Potrero Hill bakery over the top is everything else you can get here. From kimchi toast to German coffee cake, you can load up, go home, and spread the pastries around your living room floor like you’re a kid on Christmas and with just as much enjoyment." - will kamensky
