Museum Tinguely

Fantastic museum with a wide range of Tingueley exhibits/sculptures as well as modern art from other artists too. Visited on a Thursday evening so entry was free, and enjoyed the free English Tour provided - the tour guide spoke excellent English and provided lots of additional information about the exhibition and artist. The Museum gift shop is also very good, and there are lockers, toilets, and a coffee machine to make use of too. Definitely worth a visit. Tickets were booked in advance but this wasn't necessary.

If you appreciate or enjoy mechanical devices, you will likely find this place to be AMAZING! 😄 And, even if mechanical things are boring to you, there's still a good chance you will be entertained by Tinguely's creation! He was certainly an eccentric with a powerful aptitude for whimsical connecting electric motors with things that twirl, spin, and clang. Please, it you are in Basel, do yourself a favor and go visit this museum!

Great interactive museum with lots of buttons to press. FYI one a button is pressed and the sculptures move, there's a 15-minute wait before it can be activated again.

Free to enter on Thursday evenings from 6pm to 9pm which is plenty of time to see the whole museum. The amazing moving sculptures can be seen in action at regular intervals. You can go swimming in the Rhine with waterproof bags hired from tourist info for 10 swiss francs from the beach in front of the Tinguely art museum. More fun than the art but both are great.

A great exhibition of Tinguelys kinetic "statues". By pressing the buttons attached you can set the statues in motion, but you have to wait until the buttons "reload". At the beginning I didn't quite understand this, however I think the wait makes you appreciate the motion of the artwork. There was also a temporary exhibition from the artist Mika Rottenberg, which I personally found a bit too much.

I visited on a Thursday evening, when there was no charge for admission, but this museum would be well worth paying to visit. Staff were very kind and helpful. There is so much to see (and hear!) in an attractive setting. Excellent shop.

Nice air-conditioned, interactive museum with Jean Tinguely sculptures of different sizes and shapes which were a feast for the eyes and ears. It was fun watching the machines run, especially the bigger ones. If you want to explore everything this museum holds, it is vital to invest a lot of time on your visit as most of the machines run with a cool-down time. (But you can also use the QR codes to visit videos of the machines in motion). I enjoyed my visit, but I would have liked a little more explanation on the workings of the machines, or thought process behind the design, etc.
