"At 300 meters, Mount Lycabettus is the highest peak in Athens. Every half an hour a funicular whizzes up to the summit. Among other attractions, there’s a restaurant with sky-high prices and views to match. On a clear day, you can see the island of Aegina shimmering on the horizon. The tiny chapel of St. George is a magical place to watch the sunrise (especially on Sundays, when the church service starts at 7:30 a.m.) or sunset."

An amazing feast to the eyes. Acropolis is in the distance, standing majestically. There is a funicular that only takes 5min or for those who like the ascending weaving walk (750m) , it could be enjoyable.

Nice viewing point. Hard to run up but is a nice walk / hike if you’re persistent.

Best place for sunset view in Athens 🥹, than any rooftop bars! Took me 30-40mins from central area to walk up to the top but the view totally worth it. However, it’s really busy and crowded during the sunset time so be prepared (mentally) or choose a lower stop to enjoy quietly.

It’s a nice view if you’ve not yet been spoiled by the islands. If I could plan our Greece trip again, I would’ve come here first before going to Mykonos and Santorini—or maybe just skipped this entirely, as we found the viewing area quite disappointing. The upkeep was very poor, if nonexistent; things were in disrepair and it just felt grimy and dirty. Furthermore, it was very small and cramped. I can’t imagine what it must be like up here during peak season. The funicular to get up here is convenient, but don’t expect a view. You travel in an enclosed tunnel.

Would definitely recommend visiting. Great view of the city, especially at sunset. It's quite a steep hike if walked by foot. Funicular is €12 return (2024 prices) my advice is taking an Uber to the point nearest to the peak accessible by car 37.9830612, 23.7449795 to save money especially if you're in a group. Keep in mind that if you also want to visit the church it closes relatively early so check the opening hours. There is a toilet but it's hard to find.

Amazing hike up from Kolonaki neighborhood. Amazing views. It is easy to hang around up there for hours at the little cafe taking in the views and talking. Simply a must do.

Got scammed by a taxi driver from Monastiraki Square. I said meter and he said yes. But the ‘meter’ looks suspiciously novel, which is a mobile device showing the taxi fare that runs at hyper speed. 45 euros! Ouch! Why we didn’t take the funicular? Google said it closes at 3 pm. Anyway, it’s worth a visit and we have good beer at the cafe. Took the funicular down. Google please update.

Probably the best part of our stay in Athens. It is within walking distance from the metro however, I would only recommend to hike up in the evening hours because it is insanely hot in the summer. The views are magnificent.
