How to Eat Your Way Through Penang, Malaysia—Asia's Most Exciting Food Destination | Condé Nast Traveler

"On the northwest side of the island within Penang National Park, this sandy crescent is a simple pleasure—great for picnicking and kayaking with the jungle at your back and the Andaman at your feet. It’s low-frills, high-reward nature time." - Arati Menon

Tony went to a tiny remote island called Monkey Beach with lots of macaques. They grilled some fish they bought at a floating seafood market. The island is only accessible by boat.

I'd probably skip this the next time I'm in the area. The beach isn't that clean and the monkeys are really aggressive. There are a few food places when you arrive near the shore, but how sanitary it is.. I wasn't vert sure. We were able to rent jet skis and ride ATVs. The price was a bit high, but not too bad. The ATVs were old and needed a lot of maintenance. The trip was very short and the path was definitely just made in the jungle. I think the total ride was 20-30 minutes. (Keep in mind, I paid the same price for a 2 hour ride). Although the locals are friendly here, the water wasn't great for snorkeling or swimming. In fact, the locals told us not to go in the water because of the jelly fish. We did get some nice massages here but that was it. If you're short on time, this can totally be skipped off your adventure list.

Scandalous! I was here in 2016, 2017, and 2018. It was a beautiful, clean beach. What I saw today is a disaster. I'm definitely here for the last time. Plastic, ruins, and monkeys. The people I met say it's because of COVID (seriously? The pandemic ended three years ago), others say it's tourists. But unfortunately, all the trash was falling out of the designated places. Unfortunately, dear Malaysians, you're building new hotels but not caring about what's already there. You don't clean, you don't renovate, and this beach is proof of that. It's a tragedy!

Okay, if you’re looking for a quiet beach away from the tourist crowds, this place might be worth a visit. However, some of the areas are littered with rubbish, which is quite disappointing to see. There aren’t many activities to do here, so you’ll mostly be enjoying the view and swimming. There’s only one small stall that sells food. I recommend booking a boat. I think it costs RM100 for a round trip.

Boatride is fun. Lots of monkeys at the beach. You can buy drinks and some food. Very nice beach, beautifull water.

Quiet beach, only accessible by boat at the moment as part of the trail is closed. Arrange a boat near the park entrance. It cost us 90 ringgit for the boat (round trip) and 50 ringgit each to enter the park. There are basic food and drinks at Monkey Beach and of course, monkeys. We opted to walk the first part of the trail, then met the boat at Teluk Ailing jetty. Nice jungle walk with a bit of up and down - for confident walkers only as there are lots of roots and uneven steps.

Not too much doing here, as you prolly can't swim, lot of rubbish and squats everywhere

DO NOT HAND CARRY ANY PLASTIC BECAUSE THE MONKEYS WILL FOLLOW YOU AND SNATCH YOUR PLASTIC. Took me around 1hr40mins from entrance to monkey beach, the trail is not difficult
