I had THE worst experience at the Moncler store on Oak Street.
Upon entering the store, I was coldly greeted by one of your sales associates. I later learned her name to be Julie Gilbert. I perused the store in search of a jacket when Ms. Gilbert approached me and asked, "What do you want?" A little taken aback, I respond by informing her that I was looking for the aforementioned Moncler jacket in the color orange. Ms. Gilbert stated Moncler does not have any jackets in the color orange. I explained that I saw the jacket on Moncler's website to which she responded, "show me!" I was hesitant because she was clearly rude - with an iPad in her hands and the Moncler website visible she glared at me while I located the jacket using my smart phone. While I was searching for the jacket with poor reception on my phone, she asked the other store clerk - "did you lock the door?" The store clerk looked confused and stated, no! Ms. Gilbert told her to lock the door...NOW! I was uncomfortable, furious, and insulted to the tenth degree. However, there was a part of me that needed to prove to her that her obvious disdain and distaste for me, or people like me, was inaccurate and the jacket I entered the store to purchase was in fact a Moncler jacket - not some item I made up in my head.
After locating the jacket on my phone, she simply responded "we don't carry that in the store." Please keep in mind that a few minutes prior she tried to dismiss me with, "Moncler doesn't make orange jackets." I asked to try on another jacket that was located in the store to which Ms. Gilbert replied "we don't have your size." With no previous discussion regarding my size, I asked her what size am I. Ms. Gilbert pegged me as an XL - once again adding insult to injury! Ms. Gilbert is clearly mistaken as I am not, have never been a size XL - a medium would have been a more accurate assumption. However, her latter insult is neither here nor there as the bigger issue at hand is never in my life have I received such poor customer service, been locked in a store while attempting to shop, and so coldly/rudely treated in my life.
I am very aware of the incidents that have taken place on the City streets of Chicago but I would hate to think that your store, specifically Ms. Gilbert, was racially profiling me while I was trying to shop. Please note there was a young woman who entered the store at the same time I did who was of European decent - she did not receive the poor treatment that was exhibited to me while in the store.
This embarrassing, humiliating encounter will never take place again as I do not expect to ever give Moncler any of my business - I'd much rather spend my dollars where I am treated like the respectable consumer I am - not like trash or a thief off the streets.
It is sincerely my hope that Ms. Gilbert's views regarding people like me, an African American woman, does not represent that of Moncler. However, I hope this letter is taking seriously and Ms. Gilbert's flawed attempt at customer service is reviewed and revamped as soon as possible. I would not want anyone else's safety compromised at the hands of Ms. Gilbert door locking shenanigans or disrespected by her curt tongue.
If the system would allow, I would have given them no stars!
