Ministry of Crab Bangkok

This place has been on our to-visit place for a long time. I like that the menu is very simple, and the star of course is the crab! We ordered their ‘smallest’ one available which was a Large (up to 900g) and had it cooked Original Recipe Pepper Crab. We had Garlic Bread and Mixed Vegetables, plus a bottle of red wine to accompany our pepper crab. The food was fresh, the crab succulent, the wine pairing just right. Happy we decided to have dinner at this place, finally!

Ministry of Crab in Bangkok is a seafood lover’s dream come true, and dining here is an experience I’ll never forget. I had the Crabzilla, Thailand’s biggest mud crab, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. The staff were knowledgeable, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do, adding to the overall exceptional experience. For anyone visiting Bangkok, Ministry of Crab is an absolute must-visit, and if you’re looking to indulge, the Crabzilla is the ultimate showstopper. “I’ve seen this restaurant’s advertisements every time I landed at Colombo Airport but never tried it there. However, I finally dined here. I’ve watched interviews with the owner, Mr. Darshan, and was fascinated by his approach to business and passion for perfection. We ordered two 1kg mud crabs and river prawns. The yellow curry-style crab was my favorite. The total bill came to 12,000 THB—one of the most expensive meals I’ve had, but absolutely worth it!”

House of crabs indeed. The crab was very fresh, and cooked perfectly. The black pepper sauce is not overpowering and blend in very nicely with the sweetness of the crab meat. Highly recommend to pair with wine. Icing on the cake, the house will offer to peel the crab for you as well so you can just get busy eating the meat.

The crabs are definitely of good size and they do offer larger sized crabs than other restaurants. The crabs are fresh, soft and the meat comes off easily. We ordered the black pepper and chilli crab. While the crabs are big and fresh, the sauces and taste are average, not spectacular. I'm saying this in comparison to the crabs we had in Singapore. The toasted bread is awesome. Our bill was about 7000 baht which is about USD200 or SGD280. I do not think the taste justify the price. It was a very expensive meal. Service is average and restaurant looks good. Service is good and fast. We did not wait for too long for the food to arrive. Staff is professional and polite but nothing outstanding. For 7000 baht, I'm expecting higher standards. However in general, it's just an average meal.

This was our first big meal in Bangkok and sadly, did not quite live up to our expectations after hearing so much about MOC. The booking system is easy enough and we managed to book online a month or so before we arrived. The staff were friendly enough and allocated us a table upstairs for our large group, which actually worked out well. The staff served us almost immediately, but we got quite confused around which crabs were available and which were not as the options presented to us kept changing. One moment there was a 1kg and a 1.5kg, but that suddenly changed to 2x1.1kg then back to 1.5kg. This doesn't seem like that big a deal, but the price difference between a 1kg and 1.5kg crab is around 2,500 THB (over $100 AUD)! In the end, we thought we ordered 4 crabs but somehow ended up with an extra crab. We decided not to flag it, which was our fault, but we were towards the end of the meal and knew the staff were already slammed. Regarding the food - it was definitely different and a lot of the dishes were very good. The MOC Version Chilli Crab is a spicy variant when compared to Singaporean Chilli Crab, and the Original Recipe Pepper Crab is a must try if you normally go for Black Pepper Crab in Malaysia/Singapore. The garlic bread was good, and the prawn bisque was unexpectedly good but also unexpectedly spicy (no problem for us). Overall, the food was good but the meal was incredibly pricey. Our group of 8 adults and 7 kids ended up with 5 crabs on the bill up to 1.5kg in size and half a dozen prawns along with a number of other dishes from the menu, and the bill was 45,000 THB, or around 500 AUD per family. Was the food good? Yes. Was the meal worth the money we paid? Definitely not, but we are glad we gave it a shot. There are

The first waitress who served us seemed very impatient even though we were the first customer of the day and the restaurant is still relatively empty, and kept pushing us to order the bigger crabs even though there was only two of us. The other guy who I think is the manager came over and we managed to order what we really wanted. Food was great. The bisque is rich with umami flavor, and the sautéed mushrooms were one of the best I’ve ever had. You definitely have to try the garlic bread paired with the bisque! A pity there wasn’t clams that day so we skipped that. The pepper crab is great but didn’t really suit my palate. Might revisit to try the other flavors.

We booked a table for 2 same day and got the reservation. We arrived quite early but got accommodated despite the restaurant being so busy on a Monday. It is a premium establishment, everything is good quality, from table settings to utensils, to service level and food. We had crab liver pate for appetizers with a glass of white wine. The pate was so good, I tried to stretch the taste as long as possible. For main, we had butter sauce kilo crab and fried rice with prawn. Crab meat with butter sauce was fresh and tasty. Why 4 stars? Well, we were slightly disappointed that not everything on the menu was available, for example oysters and some sizes of crab. Also, while the place, service and food were exceptional, pricing is a bit on a higher side for the value. Overall, great place for a date and enjoying quality crab meat.
