Minetta Tavern is a Greenwich Village gem that serves up a nostalgic mix of luxe French bistro dishes and timeless NYC charm, great for star-gazing over a legendary burger.
"Imagine. You had a long, stressful day. The doorbell buzzes. Behold! A dry-aged ribeye patty and a sweet little mound of caramelized onions, all on a lightly toasted brioche bun. Yes, Minetta Tavern’s black label burger can be yours. All you have to do is call order online or call 212-475-3850 between 5 and 10pm." - hannah albertine
"A little over a week after critic Robert Sietsema checked into Minetta Tavern, Swift visited with Phoebe Bridgers. Restaurateur Keith McNally gave the rundown of her visit, noting she had oysters, scallops to share, and Dover sole (Bridgers had the lobster). Apparently, word traveled fast, as there were allegedly about 100 people waiting to see her Minetta Lane when she left." - Melissa McCart
"At $38 the Black Label Burger at Minetta Tavern was one of the first super-luxe burgers in the city—and it’s still one of the best. The butter-basted patty is made from dry-aged ribeye, and it's topped with a mound of caramelized onions on a Balthazar bun. The Minetta Burger ($31) is slightly juicier, with a little less funk, and it comes with cheddar. Reservations can be hard to get on short notice, but try for a walk-in bar seat (we've also seen them packing this burger out for delivery)." - will hartman, bryan kim, neha talreja, willa moore, kenny yang
"If you're looking for a spendy special occasion spot in Greenwich Village, there's no better option than Minetta Tavern. It originally opened in 1937, and local legend has it that regular guests included Ernest Hemingway, and E.E. Cummings. Despite renovations in 2009, it still feels old-school, with red leather booths that might compel you to order the roasted bone marrow, the Black Label Burger, and the $189 dry-aged côte de boeuf for two. If you don’t have a reservation, try snagging a bar seat, even just for a perfectly icy, expertly dirty martini. " - willa moore, will hartman, sonal shah, neha talreja, arden shore
"We love many things about Minetta Tavern: The host’s expression when you ask for a walk-in table on a busy Friday evening. The multitasking waitstaff, who keep up a patter of in-jokes while pouring champagne and changing paper tablecloths between courses. The cozy red leather booths in front, and loud conversations around bigger tables in back. And yes, we love that burger, but for a very special night out, get the côte de boeuf, which comes with salad and a half-portion of fantastically jiggly bone marrow. The menu isn’t strictly French—you’ll find things like truffle mac and cheese and housemade pappardelle—but the spirit is pure joie de vivre." - bryan kim, willa moore, neha talreja, sonal shah, will hartman
