We wouldn't have come here at all (and especially not with the kids) had it not been for a $150 credit.
This was the most confusing fancy Japanese restaurant I've been to. My wife enjoyed the ohmine and temaki; I enjoyed the miso soup, furikake fries, shishito peppers, tokyo sour, and the churros. The kids found the miso to be too salty (they normally have no problem with Miso wherever we go, except in Hawaii where, when it is too salty they just add some hot water and eat it anyway), and none of them would eat the furikake french fries, probably for the same reason, even after we tried shaking off the furikake seasoning, but a couple of them enjoyed the churros.
This is not a place I would return with my kids, just because there was nothing but churros for them. It was not specifically unfriendly toward kids, except that we could not get items removed from the temaki (two of the kids might have been happy with rice, seaweed, and smoked salmon), but asking for anything other than capers to be removed resulted with "we can't do that." Even the simple request not to have carrots in the miso soup for the kids couldn't be honored (not a big deal, but really? Those are clearly added later.) I am under the impression that either the kitchen has robots working there or our server was unable/unwilling to communicate with the kitchen staff (or vice-versa) except via the pre-programmed items in his app. Perhaps because they are so busy they don't need to do any special requests.
I get the whole "no substitution" thing but "we can't stop the chef from adding the last thing to your dish as it is being prepared" is a bit excessive.
We took the kids to Taco Bell after this so they could order what they wanted, how they wanted it, and everyone was happy by the end of lunch.
If there were a special occasion (birthday, etc.) I would consider bringing my wife back here because she enjoyed it, even without the credit card benefit.
