"Grilled Meats Galore The 20 de Noviembre market has a variety of food stalls where you can sample many Oaxacan specialties, but carnivores flock to the one corridor that's known as "El Pasillo de las Carnes Asadas" (the grilled meats aisle). Follow your nose to find it: smoke and the smell of meat grilling are thick in the air. You can select the raw meat that looks best to you and have it grilled to your specifications as you watch on. Find a spot at one of the long tables with benches and order salsa and guacamole to accompany your feast. Buy some tortillas from one of the passing vendors, and enjoy!"

"Chapulines! Chapulines! Throughout Mexico in the many colorful markets there are lots of interesting items for sale, from live animals and produce to clothing and all sorts of knickknacks. Food is also plentiful and varied. But nothing seems to have registered more with me than the women in the Oaxacan markets screaming "Chapulines! Chapulines!" A quick peek at the giant baskets they carry and you'll readily notice that insects are on display. Grasshoppers to be exact. Chapulines are very popular in this region and locals buy them by the bagful and munch on them as afternoon snacks. They are only collected at certain times of the year, and after a thorough cleaning and washing, they are toasted with garlic, lime juice, chili and salt. Skeptical as I was, I just had to see what all the fuss was about. So, I bought a small bagful. I reached in, grabbed one and got completely grossed out. Antennae, eyes, wings - everything was still visible. I took a tiny nibble on a wing. Not bad tasting really, but I just didn't have the stomach to bite through to the center of the critter. I gave the rest of the bag away to a gentleman who was more than thrilled with my offer. By cheryl peress"

Wonderfully cultural. Lots and lots of food vendors. Everyone competing for your attention. Amazing products: breads, meats, produce, fresh tortillas, moles, counter top services, handmade items. Busy busy. It’s a maze of people and things and sounds and colors. I love it. There’s also vendors surrounding the mercado with even more specialities.

We visited the Mercado based on local recommendations and were excited to explore the different food options. After strolling through and taking in the atmosphere, we decided to dine at Fonda Sofi, where we received excellent service. The black mole was a standout dish, and I highly recommend trying it! Overall, I would rate the experience 4 stars, as I personally didn’t feel particularly drawn to any specific food aromas while walking around. However, the Mercado is still worth a visit to explore its offerings and ambiance.

Prices are normal like the rest of the town. $100-200 for a meal. Fresh orange juice is 50 pesos for a regular size cup. Sit down restaurants here, there's more takeaway options at the market across the street. This one feels more touristy than Benito Juarez market with more English speaking.

Must visit in Oaxaca. The food is simple, but it’s an experience of the culture. Surrounded by locals and the real buzz of the city. Give it a go!

The meat alley was an interesting experience- pretty affordable but not the most tender meat. What you must really try though is the fruit juice stall at the start of the market. It’s called Jugos Sarita and it has the most amazing juice. The owner will carefully select the ripest fruit for your juice.

Always an interesting place to explore and taste different Oaxacan delicacies. The corridor of the smoke and meats is short and Always packed but for some reason they'll find a seat for you. The nearby food places serve delicious Oaxacan food anyway., you can't go wrong there when it comes to good foods. Enjoy it my dear friends....

This market lives up to its incredible reputation. I had so many delicious and authentic Oaxacan street foods (memelas, tlayudas, menudos conchitas — personal favorite, and more). This market is a must visit
