"Mateo’s claims to have the best fish tacos on earth, and yes, they are pretty great! Set in the heart of Tulum’s coastal hotel strip, this big outdoor restaurant is one of the most popular in town for its easy location, eye-catching lantern-lit ambience, and great cooking. They call themselves a Mexican grill and there are plenty of tacos, burritos, and fajitas, but you’ll find kebabs, big burgers, and even ribs, as well. Customers also love the fresh smoothies like the Happy Hippie, made with mango, papaya, cantaloupe, pineapple, and honey. Not particularly fancy, Mateo’s wins as a cool spot to hang out while enjoying solid food and drink."

We were walking up the road looking for somewhere to eat and wandered into Mateos because it looked promising. And it was great indeed! Especially since we are traveling with some celiacs. There was an English speaking waiter who was able to help those members of our group with allergies. All the food was delicious and it came out very quickly! There's also a nice rooftop patio with great views. Definitely recommend

By far the best place to eat, Have eaten there four times, never fails to disappoint. Food is delicious, staff are friendly. Went to their cooking class, was great fun, the freshness of the ingredients were just yum. The chef Miguel was fantastic.. The waiter Salvatore was great,, always with a smile

Came here for some drinks, but since we liked the atmosphere and service, decided to stay for some veggie tacos as well. The cocktails are a-maaazing, and the tacos and guacamole were some of the best we’ve had during our stay in Mexico. Totally recommend, and hope you get service from Santiago. He’s the best 😍

Jose Pausto and all the staff here are amazing. They were quick and knowledgeable to point out and accommodate gluten free meals (lots of their menu is naturally) and made us feel so welcome. The sunset bar is great to visit at happy hour for 2 for 1 drinks (300 pesos). We came here many times during our 8 nights in Tulum.

Awesome, chilled setting! Angus steak and fish tacos are great - but the special grilled octopus was outstanding!! Santiago looked after our table well and recommended passionfruit margarita and it was delicious. Great spot for dinner after an afternoon at the beach

The Restaurant was very accommodating and our server José provided us with a great service and remembered us each time we came for dinner and we came in often. We felt well taken care of and will come back here on our next trip.

The food was great, the shrimp & fish tacos tasted so fresh and the corn tortillas were perfection! We also really enjoyed the mango & strawberry fresh waters. Above all our server Jose Antonio was super helpful and attentive! Definitely would recommend
