"Signature Drinks at Squirrel's Nest Bar Head south of town to the tiny beach bar at Mata Rocks Resort. Squirrel’s Nest is a peaceful spot to enjoy a few cocktails while taking in views of Belize’s well-renowned Barrier Reef. For years, I called Mata Rocks my hotel of choice when I visited Belize as a tourist. I spent the bulk of my days lounging by the pool and chatting with the bartenders at Squirrel’s Nest. Longtime bartenders Sherilyn and Criselda are two of the nicest people on the island and serve up some pretty awesome drinks. Try Mata Rock's specialties like the Mata Colada or Pink Squirrel. Open daily, closing hours vary but usually around 8-8:30pm."

Bryan and Javier are amazing! Thank you both so much for everything! We had a terrible experience in Belize city and we spoke to Bryan and he helped us with everything! He knows so many people and was able to do so much for us! We’re so grateful! The location is quiet and beautiful!

Reserved a room using Booking.com, which included free cancelation. I assumed that my card would have been refunded immediately as is normally the case. Especially considering I made the reservation months in advance and the cancellation was made 4 days after the initial booking. Unfortunately, it wasn't. So I've had to spend a bunch of time dealing with the charge. Definitely wouldn't bother staying here if I ever return to San Pedro.

Cozy hotel away from the crowds of San Pedro. Relax by the cabana bar that serves good Belizean breakfast and other bar food during the day. Pool needs some updates and the beachfront needs maintenance after recent storm Sara

Downright gross. The floor was so dirty we couldn’t walk barefoot. The night stands hadn’t been dusted in weeks, dog hair and liquid splatters 🤢. The perfume smell of chemicals was so overpowering we had to sleep with the door open. The little outdoor bar was closed the two days during our stay. And their beach wasn’t cleaned up at all. I understand island trash and that it’s tropical storm season, but just no pride of ownership here. Oh yeah, and WiFi wasn’t working either.

Pros: friendly staff, room was overall clean and had no weird smells that you usually get with oceanfront hotels. The mini fridge had a decent size freezer and there were a few plates and bowls and general kitchen supplies. There are a few little grocery stores nearby and it was nice to have coffee and water on hand. A guy comes in the morning to rake the sand and maintain the grounds. You can tell they are trying to make what they have nice. ||Cons: The resort is pretty run down. My shower knob was broken, balcony table was broken. The first time I tried to use the balcony blinds they broke and I was afraid to use them again. |Most rooms have balconies facing the pool/bar area. So if there are people down there partying late it’s impossible to ignore. But when the downstairs is empty it was very peaceful - just depends on how busy the hotel is. Out of my 4 nights only 1 had a rowdy group downstairs - but I’m a very early riser and my bedtime reflects that. ||Overall it was a very quiet, peaceful hotel, but you are quite isolated. I didn’t rent a golf cart but instead elected to walk along the beach to find places to eat.

The hotel was showing its age, but was old in a homey sort of way. The bed was comfortable and housekeeping kept the room clean and well stocked. The hotel was experiencing a change in ownership while we were there, so there were a couple of hiccups in food availability. Service in the restaurant was excellent, and the front desk attendants went out of their way to make our stay worth remembering. I have since heard that the new owners are making some substantial improvements, including expanding the size of the pool (which was also kept spotless). A Mom-and-Pop taco stand went up across the street every day and that, along with the ice cream parlor next door to it, more than made up for the temporary food issues. We would definitely stay there again!

Nice hotel. Wonderful staff. Iver took care of me and my family, going above and beyond and Javier was great behind the bar. The restaurant was great for breakfast. Some worn spots here and there, but the rooms were clean and comfortable. The location was nice in that it was dirty of the end of town. Excellent value.

I visited Feb 2024. This was a diving trip for me so I picked a dive shop, then picked a place to stay that was close to the dive shop. Mata Rocks is clean, friendly and in a very safe & quiet location. If you want a place to sleep on a comfortable bed that is in a quiet safe part of town, this is it. If you want swanky luxury, there are places like that, but you'll spend twice as much. Mata Rocks is just as clean and comfortable at a much lower price. The building is older but well kept. I would definitely stay here again. My only complaint is that there is no refrigerator or coffee maker in the room, which I really wish it had. The bar has really good food that is reasonably priced also. Not a huge selection, but enough that you have several items to pick from.
