Mary Lou's Grill

I love this hometown cafe! Their coffee is fresh and hot. Their menu is extensive for lunch options. On my last two visits, I ordered biscuits and gravy for breakfast. On another occasion I had their BLT. The bacon was crispy,our chef/grill master must have been psychic, all three ingredients were plentiful. Breakfast was served at a four top table for lunch a few days later we dined at the counter. Our servers on both visits were very friendly and attentive.

Mary Lou's Grill is hands down the best spot for breakfast and lunch in town! Their biscuits and gravy are absolutely phenomenal—fluffy biscuits smothered in rich, flavorful gravy. If you're a fan of comfort food, this is the place for you. And let’s not forget their pancakes—they're seriously to die for! Perfectly fluffy, golden, and just the right amount of sweetness. The atmosphere is cozy, the staff is always friendly, and the service is quick. If you're looking for a classic diner experience with unbeatable food, Mary Lou’s Grill is a must-visit. I can’t recommend it enough!

I finally got around to trying Mary Lou's after living in the area for a while. Everyone praises this place, but I really didn't care for it. Ordered an omelette, and all the toppings were placed in the middle of it and folded in half, which made them fall out with every bite. There was literally a whole piece of bacon just sitting inside the omelette. The burger was juicy but was pretty plain, and the fries that came with it were just as plain. Across the board, I found everything to be a little lackluster and flavorless, especially given the hype for this local historic restaurant. Service was fast and friendly.

This type of place is in my list of favorites not just for the great food but also the awesome service we receive every time we are there... I love the family-like/friends treatment we get and we are always full and happy when we leave... Thank you for being a Carbondale staple!!! Love you guys!

Always a great meal at Mary Lou’s!

Let me start by saying the hospitality here is great. Everyone is friendly and the breakfast was made quickly, but the food is not that tasty. The hashbrowns are not hash browns they are breakfast potatoes and honestly that’s super misleading, and I would think be corrected since others have complained. I feel the food is made well, just isn’t seasoned or made with any flavors. For their intown regulars, I’m sure they are probably used to the taste, but visiting Carbondale I wasn’t really impressed.

Great hometown diner atmoshere and excellent service. I do wish they had more plant-based options but what I did have (homefries) was really good and my guests said theirs was excellent.
