On your feet! -no this is not a Clint Eastwood movie!
Purchased two orchestra right side tickets for $99 each through Groupon, on a night when they said all purchases have an additional 20% off. We went through all the steps on the internet, got switched over to Ticketmaster, and no 20% off -maybe they were on Eastern time, with a 9pm deadline! The most expensive tickets we have ever purchased for a theater show, and the regular price was $167!
Went on a 7pm Wednesday evening to see the play based on the story of Gloria Estefan. Tuesday and Wednesday evenings are at 7pm and Thursday through Sunday evenings are at 8pm.
Reading the reviews, I made sure I made a pit stop before coming to the theater.
Theater is located right on Broadway next to Times Square in the heart of the theater district. Unlike other theaters, it's a combination theater, hotel and restaurant. Had to take a long escalator ride to get up to the top level, which is theater level.
Definitely a newer modeled theater with clean thick carpeting, and comfortable plush seats. Not a small theater by no means, with orchestra area, two aisles, mezzanine area, and balcony area. The mezzanine area was largely empty, except for this older couple. Usher was nice and said she would move them up to the empty seats in the rear orchestra area, but they declined.
We were seated about six rows from the stage on the right hand side, the #3 and #4 seats from the aisle. After my elbow battles with the senior chubby lady at Bandstand, this time I went first, taking the #4 seat next to a smaller lady. That lady looked totally afraid that I would touch her, and never laid her elbow on the center armrest.
Seats are roomy but you still have to stand up when someone is passing on your row.
ON YOUR FEET! is the new Broadway musical about Gloria Estefan and her zany agent, who broke the language barrier in pop music in the South Florida area in the 1980s. Up to then no Spanish speaking music group had been able to star in the English speaking song charts.
Lots of singing including "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You," "Conga," "Get on Your Feet," "Don't Want to Lose You," "1-2-3," and "Coming Out of the Dark," Great choreography and blending between the music, the dancing and the costumes of the Miami Sound Machine.
The only drawback in this theater is the bathrooms -only 4 stalls for the ladies bathroom. With a full house some ladies wouldn't have made it to the bathroom during the intermission time. Fortunately this theater was only half full, and I let my wife sit closer to the aisle, so she could have an edge in the mad rush to the bathrooms at intermission!
