"A Truly Sanctified Sleep A former 19th Century church, Malmaison Glasgow is full of character. With 72 rooms, including eight suites, kitted out with luxury trimming the hotel doesn't scrimp on class. The brasserie, which is housed in what used to be a crypt, is a popular venue for lunch. The most exciting recent addition to the hotel is The Honours -- a new venture by multi Michelin-starred Scottish chef Martin Wishart. Standouts from the menu include a 500g Chateaubriand steak cooked on a Josper high-temperature charcoal grill."

There are so many good thing about this hotel. Location is one. Also, the room we had (junior suite) was spacious and the bed was super-comfortable. Climate control a strong point, too. PLEASE NOTE that if you have any accessibility issues this may not be the place for you. We had a lot of luggage and were told there was no lift. The climb is considerable to the first floor where our room was. We are able-bodied, so we managed without a problem. I don't think there was any ramp, either.

Can't praise the hotel enough, booked last minute due to a previous cancellation with another place and I am so glad we did as this hotel was fantastic. Firstly we checked in an hour early and got an upgrade for 20 quid for a better room which was a great size and bed was really comfy. Called room service at about 1.30am and they were happy to help, guy was really polite and professional and we were more than happy with the service we received at check in and out too. Had breakfast included which was also excellent, well cooked and served pretty quickly. Add to this the fact that my wife is Coeliac and the hotel were happy to cater to her with GF bread etc If I had a complaint it would be the lack of bed side plug sockets as I travel with a Cpap and had to stretch out the PSU to reach halfway across the room. Other than that absolutely fantastic and a great location between the hydro and some great local eateries and bars.

I stayed in the signature suite and I was woken up at 7 with a truck reversing down the lane, windows are single paned, so if you're a light sleeper is recommend choosing another room|I ordered breakfast to my room to then be told what I'd ordered wasn't available. wasn't happy about that as I paid for a breakfast. coming home today shattered and hungry. went for a break, mummy of a baby and needed a good sleep. tut tut

Really loved our stay at Malmaison Glasgow. The design and vibe were just as nice as all the other Malmaisons — stylish but still super relaxed. It’s really dog-friendly too, and my dog felt so welcome, which made a big difference. The bar was great as well — really good atmosphere and drinks.Would definitely stay again!

I stayed at this hotel on Friday 11th April while visiting Glasgow to attend the King's Theatre with friends which is just a 5 minute walk away. Staff at reception were really helpful and friendly. I had a fantastic room on the 3rd floor with which was massive and the most comfortable bed! I absolutely loved the stylish and trendy decor! I won't hesitate to stay here on my next visit to Glasgow!

Excellent stat at Mal in Glasgow. Room was great size, spotless and relaxing. Hayden at front of house was awesome, right from sorting out our parking on the phone, booking in and dinner and check out. What a gem to have on staff. Dinner was superb in the refurbed (since we last stayed) restaurant. We first stayed here almost 14 years ago and the Mal is still as fab as ever. We’ll deffo be back soon.

We booked the Malmaison at Glasgow as we were going to King's Theatre to see a show (5 minute walk away). Just the one night, but from the moment we arrived to the moment we left we felt very welcome and looked after. Staff at Reception when we checked in were very professional, kind and considerate. The room was spotless and extremely comfortable especially the bed. Yes, rooms & public spaces etc are a little dark but that doesn't detract from the experience. We ate in the bar grill, thoroughly enjoyed our burger and our breakfast the next morning in the restaurant section. Again the staff were very kind, helpful and professional. The food on both occasions was excellent. On check out we were asked about our visit, we sat in the reception for a while as we were early for our next appointment and staff were very helpful to get us a taxi. Would we stay again? A resounding YES

Sadly disappointed with our overall experience. Booked the Malmaison as a treat for a weekend break having stayed in their other hotels previously - but it seems the offering has declined over time. The rooms were looking a bit tired, the mini-bar is gone and there are no longer lovely bathroom products which you’re invited to take home. We didn’t even get any body lotion. We were offered a free drink in the bar if we sacrificed room cleaning during our stay, but the voucher is only for £7.50 per person which didn’t go very far! When I asked housekeeping for more coffee, I was given tea. And breakfast was very disappointing. My memories from previous stays are of a sumptuous continental buffet with lots of choice and great a la carte options. Unfortunately this was not the case at all. Half of the continental items listed as being available simply weren’t there (porridge, Greek yoghurt, homemade granola), and what was available was not great quality, such as the bread which was almost like a supermarket loaf. It got worse. I ordered the vegetarian breakfast and when it arrived, the server told me the veggie sausages would be coming in a moment. They never did. A bit weird I thought but tried again the next day. No sausages again. Even worse, the server didn’t even mention it this time. Almost as if they were hoping I wouldn’t notice. I wouldn’t have minded if they were just honest and apologised for not having certain items - it was just the general apathy that made me feel like I was being ripped off. We paid quite a lot for the weekend, thinking we were getting a premium experience. Turns out we probably could have had a better stay at one of the budget chains. I didn’t want to lay all this out here but unfortunately Malmaison have not given me an opportunity to provide them with feedback privately.

Yelp
Quaint hotel central to many tourist areas. Staff is lovely -- welcoming, gracious and very helpful. Rooms are fine comfort wise -- but dark and depressing. Lounge area offers more vibrant energy and lighting -- for reading and socializing.

Yelp
Interesting hotel in a great location of central Glasgow! Extremely friendly staff, easy check-in, pretty good food. Because it's an old church, the floors are a bit creaky. The bed and pillows were amazing... I didn't want to leave!

Yelp
This is a very nice hotel within walking distance to many things. The front desk staff are very, very friendly & helpful. The entire place is very clean & offers a very nice breakfast, restaurant & bar. The bartenders are quite helpful and kind.

Yelp
Much like the Malmaison in London - classy, upscale, slightly off the beaten path, and quite comfortable. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that the accomodations at this Malmaison may be slightly more sizable and luxurious than its counterpart down south. On top of a comfortable resting spot, the brasserie downstairs offers some quality bites as well. Having spent the afternoon roaming around Glasgow playing tourist, I'd worked up quite an appetite and the portions for dinner didn't disappoint. Though I eyed the Mal burger, my server talked me out of it in favor of the lighter (and slightly less expensive) salmon main with a side of carrots. While I don't typically get excited about carrots, I immediately changed my mind upon biting into the first one - roasted carrots with cumin-seed? Incredible! On top of having thoroughly enjoyable cuisine, the service was superb. Not only was I promptly taken care of at every turn, I was generally left to my own devices. Seeing that I'd almost finished writing the postcard I was working on, my server brought me a current newspaper to while away the rest of my wait for food. How thoughtful is that?! It's a darn good thing there's a restaurant here, too. The location of the Malmaison does -not- offer ready access to much in the way of decent dining otherwise. Fortunately, a lack of options doesn't mean a lack of good grub.

Yelp
One of the Sarah As won drinks at the Malmaison this evening and kindly invited myself and hubbie, John D. We went for dinner elsewhere first before heading over to the hotel to have our round of cocktails to start off the boozy night. The staff were great, and in a city I wouldn't usually think to go into a hotel chain bar over a main street pub, but it was a very relaxing atmosphere away from the crowded pubs post-work on a Friday night. It was about £5 for a schooner - 2/3 of a pint - so is a little bit more expensive than regular bars. I opted for the Zombie rum punch, which was sweet and delicious. Loads of ice. Having worked as a waitress before I kept thinking 'I bet they know we're just going to have the first round then leave' and we did consider staying for one more round but there was a karaoke bar soon to open so it was a good time to head off! They gave us bowls of nuts and popcorn. I tried a couple of bits of popcorn and didn't like it so when the waiter came by he could see the bowl was untouched and offered to bring us more peanuts. Turns out one of the ingredients on the popcorn was parmesan, probably not even vegetarian... yeah, that'll be one reason I didn't like it. That's an unfortunate thing about upmarket surroundings, "luxury" food ingredients are often animal related. It's not possible to simply have popcorn these days with just salt and oil. There were spiral stairs going down from the main door/reception to the downstairs bar (I really don't like spiral stairs, they make me feel slightly dizzy) and a quick glance at the bar menu looked quite standard... nothing jumped out at me as being super dietary requirement friendly. Service was fab, and drinks were fine, but if I were to go somewhere for £9/£10 cocktails I'd prefer a nice night view, or live music. I'd go back if I was invited.

Yelp
Enjoyed pre-dinner cocktails at 'Thank Mal It's Friday' in the stylish Chez Mal Bar thanks to Yelp and Malmaison! The bar occupies a great space, down a spiral staircase from street level and under a large skylight with suspended lightbulbs. The surroundings are contemporary and chic, with a cool and relaxed atmosphere provided by the DJ and welcoming staff. We were given complimentary snacks of nuts and savoury popcorn and after perusing the TMI Friday cocktail list (a selection of classic cocktails and twists on classics, priced at £5 each Wed-Fri 5-8pm) we ordered our cocktails - Vesper Martini, Tawny Manhattan, Mojito and Metropolitan. The Vesper Martini was going to be a Dirty Martini but we went with the suggestion to try the twist version made with vodka, gin, Lillet Blanc and a slice of lemon peel. The Vesper originated from the James Bond novel Casino Royale and it certainly is a drink and a half, very strong and dry. The Tawny Manhattan is another drink packing a punch made with bourbon, tawny port, whisky barrel-aged bitters and maraschino cherry syrup (with a delicious sweet cherry at the bottom to finish). The Metropolitan is a simple twist on a Cosmopolitan, made with raspberry vodka, and is very sweet and pink - perfect for my friend's taste in cocktails. My favourite was their mojito which was spot on - not too minty, just the right amount of sweetness, refreshing and delicious. Great spot for classy cocktails.

Yelp
I stopped here on Friday with a group of friends to taste the offerings on the Thank Mal It's Friday menu, after winning cocktail for four through Malmaison and Yelp (thanks, you guys!) The Thank Mal It's Friday menu is also actually available on Wednesday and Thursday and features a decent selection of the cocktails available at the Chez Mal bar, but at the reduced price of £5 each (or £6 for champagne cocktails). Usually these would cost around £10, so it's a pretty good deal. The bar itself has recently been done up and is highly stylised. Head down the spiral staircase into the bar and you'll find comfy blue chairs surrounding tables. The skylights let in plenty of natural light and they have pop art, quotes and cheesy jokes on the walls. One wall is all beer casks. It's cool and comfy and it's easy to forget that you're in a hotel bar. Our waitress was fantastic. She showed us to our table, brought us some spiced peanuts and garlic salt popcorn to snack on, and chatted to use about the cocktails available. I ordered a Tawny Manhattan, a twist on the classic Manhattan with the inclusion of tawny port. It was delicious, just a little sweet without being over-powering and quite strong. Just the way I like my cocktails. My partner chose a Mojito which he thought was too sweet, he said granules of sugar kept collecting in the straw. After trying my Tawny Manhattan he ordered one for his second drink. Our other friends ordered the New York Sour and the Whisky Sour. There was a bit of a mix up and we ended up with two New York Sours, but they apologised, let us keep the spare one, and went to mix the Whisky Sour that had been ordered. Everyone seemed to enjoy their drinks, and they certainly looked lovely. Another friend joined us and, after a little confusion and discussion, ordered the Painkiller. She'd wanted a Pina Colada without cream, since she's lactose intolerant. That didn't seem to be an option for some reason, but the Painkiller basically is a Pina Colada without cream. She liked it but said it was too strong for her - I think they should have just let her swap the cream for a different ingredient, but never mind. We did end up ordering a Pina Colada for comparison and it was good, but definitely not lactose-intolerance-friendly. It's definitely quite a cool bar and I'd be tempted to come back for more drinks from this menu on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Friday. It's a shame that it's not just slightly more central, but it's good to know that there's an option to drink here, even if you're not staying in the hotel.

Yelp
Very impressed with this hotel. We got it for a great deal, and we both agreed that this was one of the best stays we've had along our tour in Scotland in 2017. We drove from Glasgow - Oban - Isle of Skye - Inverness - Ballater, Potlochery and back through Edinburgh. This was a fun hotel, with great aesthetics, easy walking distance to everything you needed, and included a very fun bar and restaurant down a spiral staircase. Impressed, a really fun hotel to experience.

Yelp
We visited the bar at Malmaison before we had dinner next door at the Honours. There's a pretty sweet cocktail list - standard cocktails, as well as some more interesting drinks. The drink I ordered wasn't available as they didn't have any passionfruit syrup left, but the barman said he could make me something similar. I left it up to him and was really happy with the drink I got - it had rum and whisky in it, and was nice and fruity. A tasty way to start our meal. Drink prices were reasonable (around £7 for a cocktail) and there's some really nice decor in here now with the refurbishment - cool prints on the walls and a huge stack of beer kegs. Downside being the TVs on the walls - I'm one of those people who will stare at a TV whenever there's one and find them really distracting. I'm not sure I'd head out of my way to go here, but I'd recommend coming early if you're going to dinner for a pre-drink.

Tony C.

Yelp
This review is *just* for the bar. I'm torn between three and four. Consider this the proverbial three-and-a-bit review. The building itself is gorgeous; all stripped back lighting, kegs mounted on one wall and pop art canvas artwork on the walls. I was a big fan of the Sierra Nevada neon sign. If you're ever throwing it out, chaps, I'll give it a home! Cannot fault the staff at all. Superbly helpful even for Briony's bizarre half alcoholic mojito request! Not a problem, said out waiter-type-dude (for it's table service, folks) and even offered to deposit the unused alcohol in Nicola's mojito! I had an Gentleman's Brew, made with Gentleman Jack, ginger beer and citrus juices. The Gentleman Jack had a fair kick, but a lovely drink it was. Austen being Austen, had a beer :D The TMIF value cocktail list wasn't too bad at around a fiver a pop. Similar drinks would be available locally for just the same price if not cheaper. The beer prices, however, were suitably upmarket for the surroundings. There is the problem. Were I trying to desperately impress someone that I am much classier than I am, and I had won the lottery, I would definitely come here. The surroundings, the service and just the feel all scream "HAW! WE'RE PURE POSH, BY THE WAY!" but the prices also match that. That's why the review teeters between three and four. I have to lean towards three. I enjoyed being in here, and I'm glad I got to see it... but I think it might be quite a long time before I'm back. Sorry, chaps.

Yelp
So impressed. Spotless. Professionsl front-desk service. Comfy beds. Generous supply of high-end toiletries. Respectable place. Highly recommended!

Yelp
The Malmaison is one of my favorites one it comes to hotel chains, not mainly as a hotel though. Have actually only stayed at the one in London but I always like their bars. The one in Glasgow is no exception with great drinks and friendly service. All the drinks are made with expert care and fresh ingredients and they also offer a relaxing environment to sit and chat while sipping a drink. One of my favorite spots to grab a drink when in Glasgow.

Suzanne J.

Yelp
After booking a stay here I got emails and phone calls that attempted to upgrade our booking at a price. Although it was very tempting we remained with the standard double that we had booked. We had dinner in the restaurant which had very nice seating and glassware. I asked for a sweet white wine and the waiter got the restaurant manager. He was very charming and funny as he helped pick out a bottle. The Riesling Prinz was sampled and it was exactly what I was looking for. I ordered the Oysters to start and these were well presented with Tabasco and a wedge of lemon. I also had the Rib-eye Steak and I was a little confused because I wasn't given a Steak knife. After cutting into the steak I realised that it just was not needed. It was tender, soft and it cut through perfectly with the regular knife. I found the fries a little too crisp. This was the only fault I could find with our meal. I ended with the Pistachio Creme Brûlée which was a perfect end to our lovely dinner. They do add a 12.5% tip on the bill. Be warned!

Christina M.

Yelp
Since I haven't had the opportunity to stay here, I can't give a full review but what I can say is that you will be well-looked after if you decide to stay at the Glasgow Malmaison. When I was here for a Yelp event recently, the attention to detail from the staff was really evident, and they went out of their way to look after their guests. The interiors are stunning and opulent, but without being too grand or overbearing; there is a relaxed ambience throughout so I have no doubts that staying here would be a relaxing time for any guest!

Yelp
It was my mum's 50th last month and for a special treat I thought I'd take her for a champagne "High Tea" at Malmaison. I'd never been to Malmaison before but I'd heard nothing but rave reviews so I couldn't wait to surprise my mum with a birthday lunch. The outside of Malmaison is pretty impressive, the building is absoulutely gorgeous and I was expecting big things as I headed inside. It was pretty busy when we arrived and we headed downstairs to the restaurant/bar area. One thing that struck me on entering the bar area was that it was dark. Really dark. I'm more of a pastel shade kinda gal but dark and rustic is the style of Malmaison and that's cool, I can handle that. The friendly staff sat us at our own little booth and gave us a glass of champagne each while we waited on our sandwich platter; which was delicious. This was followed by a selection of cakes and pastries which were equally to die for. Overall, our lunch here was delicious and I was really pleased my mum enjoyed her surprise lunch but all the while I just couldn't help looking around and noticing how much of a spruce up this place was in need of. Heck, even just a clean. There was candle wax stuck to the floor, the tables, the seats, and it really didn't look like this place has ever seen a Henry Hoover let alone a duster. There was even bits of food stuck to the floor and the tables were that horrible sticky way. Maybe that's why they like to keep it so dark, so you can't see all the dirt. I'm really surprised that this is a four-star venue as it was lacking in so many areas. To be honest, it reminded me of a Weatherspoons. The dishevelled look is fine if it has a certain charm but Malmaison has absolutely no atmosphere at all. It's just flat and lacks any kind of personality. Although my lunch was really tasty I was left really underwhelmed by the "Malmaison experience". Seriously Malmaison, the ironic, old, rustic feel that you're going for doesn't really work when it's just plain dirty. Maybe I've completely missed the point of the style of this place, I love themed hotels/bars but this just doesn't work and instead I left feeling like I wanted to get my Marigolds out and give Malmaison a good spring clean, and believe me, I'm no clean-freak. Get your finger out Malmaison, this place needs some serious TLC. Oh, and they seriously need to crack open a window (it's below ground level, but you know what I mean, air-con' wouldn't go a-miss) in this place as it was hot, hot, hot and that had absolutely nothing to do with the spicy curry sandwich in our tea-for-two.

Annie L.

Yelp
Wonderful rooms, very spacious and the bed was luxurious. Great selection of teas which is in the closet! Big bathrooms and heated towel rack. The staff are absolutely terrific - pure class. I really enjoyed the cocktails in the bar area, maybe too much as the bill the next day showed! Only minor compliant was the gym, it has ample cardio machines and it's small but has great views. My issue is more the weights or lack of. They felt like they were more decorative than functional. But then again maybe not many people use the gym when they are there as it is a very relaxed "treat yourself" spot.

Sarah A.

Yelp
Thanks to Yelp Glasgow we won a round of cocktails here which is a pretty great way to spend a Friday night! Lots of choice and the staff suggested a couple of drinks based on what I like in a cocktail. Comfortable surroundings and very attentive staff. Would be interested to see how well they can cater for a vegan meal.

Kevin D.

Yelp
Did I really just pay £5.50 for 2/3 of a pint!!! This place is charging London prices, been in twice and each time it's been dead and had no atmosphere .... No wonder a these prices

Mike H.

Yelp
Stayed her a few times now, lovely feel to the hotel and restaurant. Love the two level suites. Ordered good old prawn cocktail followed by calves liver. Will let you know Prawn cocktail nice but doesn't warrant the price! Nice pink liver with mash and roast veg.

Robert M.

Yelp
I do not recommend this hotel. And if this is the standard Malmasion offers I believe their reputation for high quality to be undeserved. Check-in was not customer oriented. The desk holds to a strict 3PM check-in time, despite my explanation of having traveled for over 23 hours from the U.S. (Most hotels will give you the room early if one is open: but this was not considered). I further asked to borrow an umbrella, a normal request that they could not meet as they have none. The room was tired and over heated. And boy racers congregated on the street bello racing and shout until at 3AM. Why the hotel allows this is beyond me as ever guest on one side of the building must be frustrated by it. As a business traveler this hotel cannot support simple needs: check in, umbrella, comfortable room to sleep.

David M.

Yelp
Stayed here Sunday 7th August on their hotels own website MALSupplement deal, where you spend £75 per room in their restaurant and then you get the room for £10. Absolute BARGAIN! This is a lovely boutique hotel, the restaurant is gorgeous and food is delicous! We only booked the standard room but upon arrival were told that we had been upgraded to a Superior room which was lovely as it was for our 17th wedding anniversary. It is ideally located to all the nice bars on bath street so we had a great night out in town and stayed in a beautiful hotel toboot! We will certainly be back to exploit this deal as MUCH as possible.

Yelp
I might just be giving the impression that my life is a series of swanky events, nights out at the theatre and visits to openings at galleries. Add in some existential terror, romantic heartbreak, and you'd be right. Luckily, I still get to put on the tux and get invited to parties at Malmaison. Well, once. It was crowded, there were a few free cocktails somewhere and a long, busy bar. It was posh enough to make me feel that I was in the wrong place, and when the crowds died down, I loved the comfortable seating and the balance between the neutrality of a hotel and its idiosyncratic elegance.

Angelique M.

Yelp
Of all the Malmaisons I've stayed at, this is one of the standouts (maybe that's because I got upgraded to a suite?) I can't say enough about Hotel du Vin/Malmaison Hotels -- they're simply one of my favorite brands. The beds are all comfortable, the baths expansive. Each hotel has a unique story. This particular hotel is located in a quiet neighborhood -- there's an interesting curry around the corner which do haggis pakoras, but have the hotel order you a cab and trek over to Mother India for a proper curry. The hotel bar is lovely and the bartenders will cater to your whims of fancy (the last time I stayed, we were inventing shots... the bartender played along with).

Catriona M.

Yelp
One of the most impressive interiors in the area, its very sumptous and luxurious; plush carpets, spiral staircases, everything you could wish for really- but having visited the Newcastle equivalent, I couldn't help be a little disappointed by it, as it wasn't quite as good as that one. It's classy, and very expensive, so good for a special occasion.

Jesse D.

Yelp
Great location in Glasgow, super comfortable bed, friendly service, the bar is unique and we got a complimentary drink with our room. The only downside we had was lack of parking. The shower was great. Rooms a tad small, but lovely ambience and decor.

Jen L.

Yelp
The Yelp Brunch Club was offered a quite fantastic two for one offer on Brunch at the Mal, entirely too good to pass up. All in all there were eighteen of us, and as we all arrived in drips and drabs we were offered seating in the lounge and were able to order drinks while we waited for our tables. The atmosphere was very welcoming and relaxing, which is just what you're looking for on a Sunday morning! The light and airy lounge contrasts very much with the brasserie itself which is quite dimly lit with dark-stained wooden fixtures. I quite liked it; the soft lighting in the morning was soothing, and to me it felt reminiscent of the church it once was, but it was not to everyone's taste. Once we gained our seats, we were handed the most enormous menus you have ever seen. Despite the enormous, clumsy piece of card it was printed on, the menu itself was quite impressive and gave you far more than I might have expected. The Malmaison has a reputation for great food, but also for being a little expensive. For the £20 price tag you receive a generous four-course meal, including a soup course and unlimited trips to the chef's station. As many of us soon discovered, this was could have been plenty as a meal on its own and although we tried to pace ourselves, most of us wanted to try a bit of everything and ended up with plates piled high with various foodstuffs! Luckily, a lot of us sensibly said no to the soup! For my main, I ordered the buttermilk fried chicken with waffles and maple syrup. It was so peculiar to see on a British brunch menu that I just couldn't help myself! I found the chicken to be crisp and tender, even though they were just drumsticks (I had expected thighs at least, or for one to be included). My waffles were a little bit overcooked, and didn't quite resemble the fluffy ones that the chef had made fresh for patrons at the chef's station, which I'd abstained from because I knew I was getting waffles anyway. Still, the flavour combination was a tasty delight, even if it confused my taste buds into thinking that my orange juice was bitter! It was definitely a hit with me. Unfortunately, those at our table who ordered the roast were unhappy with their meal, especially with the roast potatoes. One person sent it back in favour of the steak, which looked delicious and also enormous! And one person was also left disappointed as there was some sort of 'burger mishap' which meant she had to wait over 25 minutes for her meal, at which time we were all finishing ours. I, being the naughty lactose-intolerant that I am, ordered the ice cream sundae for dessert, a decision for which I paid dearly later. We waited a total of 20 minutes for dessert to appear, and our other table had already finished theirs before ours were delivered. The coffee actually came out before the dessert, which is peculiar in the restaurant industry. When dessert did finally arrive, it was very tasty indeed! I think my ice cream Sunday only had a couple of scoops ice cream, and some sort of cookie, and a lot of cream / creamy custardy component in it, so it was a lot more dairy than I'd bargained for, but none-the-less very flavoursome. Based on my own personal experience, I'd give it a generous four stars, but given the experience of the whole group, I must knock it down to three. For half the price the meal was more than worth it, but given the service hiccup I don't know if full price would have been justifiable given the high standards to which the Mal holds itself. I think that I'd have to give it another go to see how a smaller group gets on - the food was tasty, and I'd go back just for the chef station. Beware the expensive cocktails, though!

A comfortable bar set downstairs within the hotel. We were welcomed and served by the lovely bar man, who offered us complementary truffle and parmesan popcorn. This kept us snacking while we waited for our cocktails, on average priced at £8.95.

Yelp
This was our first time staying in Malmaison on 1st Feb 2014. We normally stay close-by it when in Glasgow but that hotel was booked up this weekend so I thought we'd pay extra for a little bit of luxury. Unfortunately this wasn't what we got. Don't get me wrong - staff were really friendly and they did happily help when requested for taxis / information etc. Check in and check out were easy and quick. We paid for an upgrade to a duplex suite (£194 for one night) and being a boutique hotel I expected a really nicely decorated room - maybe a feature wall with fancy wallpaper or something quirky - bit of a wow factor. But no - the room was just beige, sofas brown and bed linen white! It was clean and the furniture nice enough (although the black painted wood was fading in bits and the mirror at the dressing table was too high up when you were sitting down). Some things were disappointingly cheaply done - bath panel was wood painted black and white simulating tiles (instead of real tiles) and you can't shut the room door when leaving without banging it. Also the lighting was a bit poor and doing make-up anywhere else but the bathroom was impossible. It was more the sense around the location of items which really irritated us. It might seem petty but when you're only there for one night spending time looking for stuff and having to bring things up and down stairs is annoying. Being a duplex you went upstairs to the bedroom. We eventually found the kettle and coffee in the bedroom wardrobe which seemed silly when you had to fill the kettle from the bathroom which was downstairs and there wasn't really an appropriate surface in the bedroom area to place the tray when taken out of the wardrobe. Although we quickly got some extra milk when we asked (there were only 4 milk portions on the tray) i felt that the tea/coffee should have been better stocked and didn't look like it had been filled properly - only 2 coffee sachets. once i'd had one when we arrived i ended up drinking decaffeinated in the morning so my partner could have the one remaining caffeinated sachet. I'm sure we'd have got more if we'd asked but we shouldn't have had to. The minibar was also in the same wardrobe upstairs as was the hair dryer - cleverly camouflaged in a black drawstring bag resulting in a call to reception as i couldn't find it anywhere. The prices for the minibar were downstairs with the snacks. Bearing in mind most people would use the sofas etc I felt that the drinks should have been on that floor with the snacks and water supply! The toiletries were nice enough (although id heard so much about the quality and i wasn't blown away by them and the tissues were cheap too), the bed comfy, room service great and it was nice to have a bathrobe but this was nothing we haven't had elsewhere for half the price. The luxury element just seemed to be missing. Also, the noise from boy racers at night is really bad (we were there on a Saturday). Not the hotels fault but we were on the fifth floor and if we hadn't been out late at an event ourselves and I hadn't had earplugs I would have struggled (went on until after 2am at least) so anyone lower down must have been deafened by it! Perhaps the hotel should lobby the police to crack down on this?! In summary I expected more at this end of the market. It is quirky and the communal areas are lovely but the rooms (I can only speak for the suites) are nothing special. I'm usually easy to please and don't mind paying if something is worth it but we just left a bit disappointed. I'd have been happy enough at half the cost.

Yelp
Right, this review is really about one thing only, the Mal's wedding service. We got married at the Mal on the 28th July and I have to say they did an absolute bang up job on the whole thing. The location is perfect, the atmosphere great and the service was pretty spot on. The Champagne Bar provides a great backdrop for the service itself and the Mal has a restriction of 40 guests so those looking to keep the numbers under control should give them a look in. Small, intimate and yet with a sense of occasion. It was a church so that really lends itself to the feel of the day. Couldn't be happier with that. The Events Manager Sharon is a very helpful and friendly person who really looks to find out what you want and how they can go about getting you anything you might need. We looked over the menu in advance and they were one of the very few venues that actually offered multiple choice during the wedding meal. So many simply say to the newlyweds "Choose what everyone is eating" and offer nothing at all. The Malmaison actually give your guests 3 choices per course. A nice touch. Money is something anyone planning a wedding is going to be very aware of and the Malmaison may seem an odd place to say this about but they really offer great value for your hard earned cash. The venue hire itself was reasonable, and we got a discount for booking quite a bit in advance. The meal and drinks packages were pretty decent as well. Actually very good considering the options of choice being made. A bit of serendipity played a part in the alcohol choice we made. The opening fizz is normally a Prosecco. My wife gets the sneezes from that and I am Australian and wanted an Aussie sparkler to open the thing. A case of a Deakin Estate had mistakenly been delivered and once tasted this was chosen. The price of this was better than the Prosecco and allowed us to include Vueve Clicquot as the main toasting Champagne. I would add a personal note to the Malmaison that Australian Sparkling whites are extremely good quality and offer a better price point as a choice to start with, Prosecco can be hit and miss! We only had one hitch during the service itself. Our poor friend was doing his best to read John Donne's "The Good Morrow" after the signing of the papers and the staff had allowed the music to run through that. So his 16th Century poem about love was accompanied by the theme music to Raiders of the Lost Ark. I am pretty sure this is the only time that has happened. Everyone had a giggle, it didn't harm the day and has provided a talking point. The meal went extremely well. I can vouch for the Chocolate Fondant. If you go for anything, make sure this is on your menu as it is a cracker. It seemed however that the Fish course caused the kitchen a bit of a problem or two. I noted that I had finished my main before some people were actually getting theirs. I am sure there was a technical reason for this but I was aware of it. Luckily the wine was flowing and no one cared a jot! The evening went very well, the staff cleared the dining room and set the chairs out. We didn't want a dance party and had an acoustic duo singing away. Those that wanted to dance had the space and the rest just enjoyed the night. The buffet of rolls and bacon was served and not many went, kind of annoying when they are about £6 each. I was tempted to take several to my room for late night munchies. The bar next to the event room was open. I was glad of the fact I was the groom as the bar prices are reflective of the quality of the establishment and people bought me my drinks. It would be nice if guests for the day and evening were given a special set of drinks at a slight discount maybe. I do think £5 for a pint of Heineken is out there no matter where you are, and £9 for a double Caol Isla is enough to make my hair turn grey! However I wasn't paying, so at the time I didn't care! We took a suite upgrade (great value again when you book the event) and had a great night's sleep. Exhaustion sums up the end of a wedding day, nothing else! The room made a welcome retreat and breakfast next day was nice too. The "Big Mal" breakfast isn't that big. I was a bit let down by that. So I had a couple more Croissant than I should have! So really both of us couldn't have been happier about the way the day went, and that is in no small part down to the superb job that those at the Malmaison did on the day. If you are looking for a small and yet chic day for your wedding I would find it hard to suggest anywhere else that could do as good a job!

Yelp
Pretty standard fare from the Malmaison restaurant. Well presented and well looked after. Can't help but feel that the menu could offer more. The wine list was extensive. That said, the set menus are exceptionally good value for a place of this calibre.

Yelp
great venue, with great staff. Wonderful atmosphere and environment - relaxing but can be business like. Terrific coffee and fab home made biscuits. Had lunch there last week food was great! My friend had the chicken and leek pie and said it was to die for!

Yelp
Looking for a bit of Luxury in Glasgow? Well look no further than Malmaison! At a cocktail making and tasting event me and my mother-in-law fell in love with 'The Mal' and it's gorgeous architecture inside and out. Staff were on hand to cater to our every beck and call. We were educated in the art of cocktail making by two of the hotels bar staff, we made a fruity, summery type cocktail which by the way was rather tasty! After reading the menu's I'm going to take my Mr here for his birthday for a Sunday dinner as the prices are fantastic! Get yourselves along and see for yourselves.

Yelp
the malmaison-glasgow is one of a small group of boutique hotels in the uk and abroad - they are often to be found in exotic victorian buildings and this one is in a huge edifice styled like an egyptian temple - and previously an episcopal church the style is pure luxury - the suites are the very last word in comfort and are mostly unique its a very special place almost don't want to tell people about it fantastic bar and brasserie - superb food and wine list

Yelp
Got an unbelievably cheap deal here so was pleased before I even arrived. The receptionists are lovely; really friendly and welcoming. Our room (which I presume, for the price I paid, was their standard room) was really luxurious, with an exceptionally comfortable bed. The toiletries in the bathroom were better than average and the mini bar was extremely well stocked. We didn't eat in the hotel, but the menu looked amazing and the restaurant looks lovely so I would definitely consider it if I return. The hotel is easy walking distance to Bath Street and Sauchiehall St, so is well situated if you are looking for a city centre venue. We had a drink in the bar after we'd been out for dinner- there was some kind of Christmas work night out going on so the bar was mobbed- but the barman was very attentive and insisted on providing table service. My only tiny complaint was that I had to wait for ages to pay at the bar since he hadn't taken my room number. However when I did manage to get the attention of a passing waitress she sorted it out very speedily indeed. For the price I paid this was an amazingly good value deal, but even at the standard prices it is a lovely hotel.

Yelp
This review is for the hotel portion only. The noise from the street car racers that happen on Friday and through the weekend that other reviewers have commented about as well is really loud and goes on till the wee hours in the morning. Best to avoid staying at the hotel during those times.

Yelp
I love this verging-on-fancy restaurant. The quality of the food is fantastic, and though it is quite pricey, it is definitely worth it. They do a mean G+T and they have an extensive and quality wine list. As it is attatched to the hotel you often get lone guests dining by themself which means that it is often quiet, especially mid week, and earlier in the evening. The times that I have been there, the food has been to the highest standard, with fresh and seasonal ingredients and cooked really nicely. It is the way that the portions don't look massive, but by the time you have finished, you feel satisfied because it has been so tasty. The staff are attentive but not overly so, and the atmoshpere is kind of relaxed and discreet. You can get private dining rooms for groups or if you just want privacy! I would say this place is fantastic, and in a good location as the parking always seems quite easy up there.
