This unpretentious Mexican cantina serves up flavorful Oaxacan staples like mole and tacos, with great service and a vibrant atmosphere.
"Madre has built a mini-Empire of Mexican restaurants with four locations across Los Angeles and the South Bay. While some restaurants lose quality as they expand, Madre has kept its Oaxacan cooking and cocktails top-notch. Start with chapulines served with avocado and quesillo, or elote slathered in crema and cotija. Mole negro is spooned over grilled chicken or a bone-in pork chop, while grilled branzino is served with maitake mushrooms and mole verde. Madre also offers one of the best selections of mezcal in the city, available neat or in cocktails like a margarita." - Rebecca Roland
"When: Mon-Fri, 3-6pm The Deal: $11 Cocktails; $10 House Mezcal; $9 House Tequila With locations in Torrance, Culver City, West Hollywood, and Santa Clartias, you’re never too far from Madre. This Oaxacan restaurant serves everything from mole to pozole in a casual room with a huge mezcal collection. While we certainly support getting involved with a frozen tequila sunrise on a 90-degree day, the margarita with mezcal joven is our go-to order. The sweet and spicy notes from red chile liqueur and agave balance out the smokiness." - nikko duren, garrett snyder, brant cox
"El Nopal is an awesome restaurant on National Boulevard. They have authentic Oaxacan Mexican food like tacos, moles and great Oaxacan beer. They also offer a very nice beer selection and the 7 mares soup dish is amongst the best I've ever had!" - Julian Gallardo Design
"Madre is a tremendous Oaxacan restaurant in Palms, but they also have locations in Torrance and West Hollywood. We like this location though, because it’s a bit more laid back than the other two, but with the same great food and cocktails. Order any of the memelas, the negro mole, and a cauliflower taco you’ll definitely order again the same night. From there, explore their seemingly endless stock of specialty mezcal and tequila." - Team Infatuation
