"Bangkok is the ultimate concrete jungle, and most of its green spaces have long been gobbled up by developers adding condominium towers to the skyline. But smack dab in the center of the city is leafy Lumphini Park; often called the "Central Park of Bangkok" and named after the Nepali birthplace of Buddha, this an urban respite for many Bangkokians. The geographical heart of the park is an artificial lake where you can rent swan-shaped paddle boats; a jogging track, which fills up early in the morning and around sunset, encircles the lake. There are a few playgrounds and vendors selling water and fresh fruit. On Sunday evenings in the cooler months, the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra plays free concerts. The park’s best-known commodity is its resident population of giant (mostly harmless) monitor lizards, which slither in and out of the lake." - Diana Hubbell, Katie Lockhart

"Lumphini Park is a 57-hectare green oasis in the middle of Bangkok, offering outdoor leisure activities and a large lake. It's home to many monitor lizards and provides a relaxing space amidst the city." - Pruepat 'Maprang' Songtieng
"Bangkok's Most Beguiling Green Space In a city where gold-spired temples are much more ubiquitous than green space, Lumphini Park is a veritable oasis in the heart of Bangkok . Established by King Rama VI in the 1920s and completed after his death, the 142-acre chunk of tropical greenery is a treasured spot. One of the few parks of any size in central Bangkok, Lumphini is well used: In the morning, tai chi practicers arrive, while in the early evening, joggers monopolize the main path that runs around its perimeter. Even so, there’s ample room to get away from the crowds here. More than 30 species of birds flit among the park’s giant trees, and monitor lizards and turtles inhabit its waterways. Other attractions within the park include a public library, a youth sports center, and swan paddleboats in the man-made lake."
A perfect spot in the heart of Bangkok for exercise and relaxation! 🏃♂️🚴♀️ The park is spacious, clean, and very well-maintained.
Great for jogging, or just stretching out on the grass. There’s a friendly and peaceful atmosphere — lots of locals and foreigners come here early in the morning and late afternoon.
Highly recommend if you’re into outdoor workouts or just want a breath of fresh air in Bangkok.

A Jogger's Paradise with a Unique Surprise!
This park is hands-down my favorite spot for a jog! The moment you step in, you're greeted by beautiful greenery and nicely paved roads that make for a smooth and enjoyable run.
But the real highlight, and something that always brings a smile to my face, is the presence of the monitor lizards. It might sound surprising, but they're truly a part of the park's charm, and it's wonderful to see them in their natural habitat. They add a unique and wild touch to an otherwise serene setting.
If you're looking for a great place to exercise surrounded by nature, with a fascinating twist, this park is definitely worth a visit!

Lumphini Park is a beautiful green escape right in the heart of Bangkok. It’s perfect for walking, jogging, or just relaxing in the shade. I was surprised by how peaceful it felt despite being in such a busy city. The highlight for me was seeing the monitor lizards—huge but harmless and really fascinating to watch. There’s also a nice lake with paddle boats, an outdoor gym, and plenty of space to stretch out. It’s clean, safe, and well-maintained. I recommend going early in the morning or around sunset to avoid the heat. A must-visit if you’re in Bangkok!

Always a pleasant outing, whether you go for a run, a walk, yoga, Tai Chi, aerobics or bird watching. The park is always clean and the cats are taken care of very well. You will most likely come across a water monitor crossing the road or sunning on the grass.

Nice park with plenty of room for many people to run, walk, bike, and enjoy on a nice day out. Plenty of wildlife which gives a refreshing getaway from the city. Kept clean as well, there wasn’t much rubbish left out. Didn’t see mosquitoes, but I would bring bug spray anyways.

I found this park noted online while I was staying at a nearby hotel and walked to it one morning. It feels very safe, with lots of people exercising and also security guards posted. The views are beautiful with all the greenery in the middle of the city. It was a lot of fun to see the water monitors, and they didn’t bother anyone. Very nice park!

Lovely open park with lots of space for picnics and relaxation. Good for outdoor workouts as the park offers many outdoor gym areas, pathways for running, a bike track (marked) that runs around the park area and a lot of open space. Full of widelife (birds, fish, squirrels and even monitor lizards). Space is a relaxing change to the ongoing of Bangkok.
