LOST HORSE SALOON

This was our second time visiting after visiting a year earlier. Small local cash only bar that had solid service, beer was cold, and easy parking. The nights we’ve gone haven’t had live music or a large crowd but there is a pool table for entertainment. Beer selections were minimum that night due to many places not having received their alcohol delivery that week. Typical small bar with your average marfa crowd.

My son and I stopped in to get a bite to eat. Because it was a week day, off season and gas prices staggering high, we had the place to ourselves. The owner was super nice and my son racked up a game of pool that we enjoyed free! The food was good, the ice was cold but most of all my son and I will always have a warm memory of our visit to the Lost Horse Saloon.

The place is good for chilling out not for food and drinks. It's like the old saloons which you see in the movies. There is a long wait for food. They have some local beers to choose from. You get the beers pretty easily as the bartender has to just open it up but other drinks take time. We ordered a Southwestern chicken flat bread and three cheese flat bread. The food was okay-ish. But it took almost like forever for the food to come. The waitress we placed the order to was lost in her own world. The chef had to come out and check with us and then take the order again. The table next to us said they were waiting for 1 hr 15 mins for their food. If you are staying near Marfa then there are very few options of food late at night and this places falls in that list of few places.

This IS the bar you walk into when you belong in an old western movie. The food is delicious, and the staff is extremely friendly. They have a stage and beer garden out back with some adorable murals. I had the ceviche tortes and a margarita; it was like a dream having this good of food in the desert. I'd love to come back!

Great classic dive bar. The brisket and chicken tacos were amazing, the salsa tasted super fresh too. Classic Texas beer selection, yuengling washed it all down well. This place probably holds so much untold history and is truly a gem. A refreshing break from all of the overpriced cocktail and boutique places nearby.

Campy little spot with outside seating and good food that they may or may not be out of. Liquor and beer choices. Solid dive bar for sure. Ask for karaoke as the locals get in-to-it!

The Lost Horse, like most places in Marfa, is a cultural curiosity. One visit is not enough to understand the vibe of the place and to feel is one belongs there or not. Given the limited number of options in Marfa, as a business owner I can't imagine there's much opportunity to identify who your target market is. Marfa bars are like airport bars. Everyone is there because they're just hanging around for whatever reason brought them to town.

One review says they will give you top shelf if you don’t specify what you want, but I did not see any necessary top shelf liquors in their selection… some card games and Juke box are available too

The Lost Horse Saloon is hands down one of my favorite spots in town. I'll take a drink here in this rustic and lowkey gem any day over the other "trendy" and way overpriced bars in town. It's in a very unassuming building on the way out of town headed towards Alpine - blink, and you'll miss it. When I stopped in on a Saturday night it was full of a great mix of some travelers and lots of locals. It was easy to spot who was who but everyone in this spot was friendly and welcoming. Karaoke was going on and was surprisingly incredibly entertaining - I take it lots of the locals are karaoke regulars. It's a great way to spend a few hours, dance with a cowboy during a Hank Williams karaoke rendition, and share some shots with local Marfans.

Delicious food! I randomly picked this place for dinner, after an all-day drive from Arizona. I was so pleasantly surprised at the quality and taste. They have a large menu of hearty dishes. One complaint: prices aren't listed on the menu. They ended up being something like $15 per dish. A bit steep. I went with the brisket nachos. They were awesome. My boyfriend had the shrimp tacos. I tried some and they were really good. We devoured everything. Make sure you scope out their cool patio. We didn't notice the door at first, as it's somewhat incognito. It's very cute and has a fun swing. They're also open late. Highly recommend this spot to fill your belly!

Dive Bar?? Ehh...that's a bit of stretch. Lost Horse Saloon is just a rustic themed bar with really high drink & beer prices. There's really nothing Divey about whatsoever about this place. If you're in Marfa, well you're already paying High Prices anyway, so what's one more place. Overall, I wouldn't call it a "Dive Bar" its just a bar with a rustic country theme. PS...the bartenders couldn't make a cocktail to save themselves, but will still charge you Top Dollar for their crappy concoctions!! **Watch Out** Now the food on the hand, well that different. Still not a dive bar, but the Kitchen turns out some delicious food!! I would say, screw the high priced drinks and come here for the food!! Food prices are reasonable, and food quality blows away some of the other Swanky places in Marfa when it come to how Delicious it is!! TWO Thumbs to the Kitchen Staff/Cook!! If you want a real dive bar...Drive to ALPINE, TX. It's down the road going Southeast about 30 minutes. Or drive to Van Horn...you can Smoke in that one! Welcome to West Texas.

Walked in and it felt immediately at home. Lots of good bars just share the same DNA. We didn't stay long, my partner was hungry and they didn't have food that day. They also didn't know when they'd have food again and god bless the cook that comes in when he feels like it. Wish I had longer in town, I'd like to go back with a full belly and just hang out for a bit.

If you're in Marfa, it's the only damn place to go at night. And good beer and grub and occasional band.

This is a must-do! It's towards the end of main drag of highway through Marfa towards Alpine. Lots of outdoor seating. Had food, fyi things in Marfa are slow..like getting your food. But it's all good, it's great people watching and drinking. There are pool tables inside as well.

You can almost drive right by this gem in Marfa, TX, but if you can, please stop and take a load off your tired dogs! Pretty bomb brisket everything (nachos, sandwich and tacos). The Shiner Bocks were a little pricey, but still totally worth it. . Love that it take a few minutes for your eyes to adjust inside. Great outdoor space. I guess they have live music, but what was happening on their playlist was awesome. Love it. If your horse ever gets lost...wander onto the Lost Horse Saloon in Marfa. I have an excuse to wander back, ya'all.

I called to find out about their food, I asked "What time does your grill close? He rudely said " I don't have a grill I have a stove! And hung up on me" Didn't even answer my question and didn't give me a chance to say another word! We really would have like to give this place a chance , we were in the area for 4 days, but after that guys attitude , he just ruined it, I couldn't make myself want to give them our business. Customer service is a very important thing , even over the phone

The bartender and "cook" are rude horrible people. The bartender Sammy had no idea how to make ANY kind of shots. When she was confronted about under pouring (basically just giving us a splash of alcohol for a shot) she became aggressive and hostile. When I tried to introduce myself and tell her that I am a Marfa a Native she got very rude and when I told her that my grandfather was actually murdered in the town she said that he probably deserved it because he was white. SAMMY THE BARTENDER DESERVES TO GET FIRED!!!! When I tried to have a civil conversation with her and ask her to send me links about the segregation that happened in Marfa decades ago she got in my face and told me "you would say that you white bitch" Overpriced on top of horrible service

Oh, f--king hell yeah! My visit here was a sublime experience. I came in with hopes of chatting with locals about the condition of some back roads around the Tex/Mex border I want to explore. I got all the info I wanted and so much more. The crowd of locals on a Friday night was friendly and welcoming in a way that's lost these days even in Austin, the self-appointed friendly capital of Texas. Best of all, it was hands-down the best hangout with dogs I've ever had at a bar, including Austin's dog bars. There were probably close to two dozen dogs running around, almost all off-leash, and most of them completely at ease and at home. There was a local singer-songwriter all-female song swap onstage. Service was friendly. Don't expect fancy: It's a dirty dive bar, warmer than you'd like it to be on an August night. Wouldn't change a thing.

On a cross country road trip, my friend and I stopped in Marfa for a couple of nights to experience the magic and beauty of this adorable town. This was one of the few places open, due to covid, and it was rustic and awesome. Skulls dawned the mantle all around the perimeter of the bar. We were the few patrons there that night, I played pool with the bar tender and got free drinks from some cowboys. Suffice to say, my friend and I made great memories at this bar and if I'm ever in Marfa again, I'm going back here.

Whenever I visit a new city on vacation, I always like to hit up a local bar. No, I'm not talking about a hotel bar full of tourists. What I'm talking about is an authentic bar where locals go. This is exactly what Lost Horse Saloon is. When you think of a bar you would find in West Texas, somewhere like Lost Horse comes to mind. Cue a couple pool tables, some Texas regalia, a casual atmosphere, and a stage for some live music and there you are. I went on a Wednesday night so there were only a handful of people at the bar. There was no live music but I'm assuming this is something that happens on the weekends. Even the bathrooms have saloon doors like you've been transported back to the Wild Wild West. I wanted a local beer but unfortunately, they were all out of beers from the Big Bend Brewing Company which is located in the nearby town of Alpine. The bartender tried to tell me that Mexican beers were local which is comical in itself. Close but no cigar my good lady. Lost Horse Saloon is your typical Texan dive bar, it was cool to check it out!

Dive bar with decent food. Good nachos just not worth $15. Good street tacos just not worth $15. Good margarita just not worth $12.

This is a REAL Texas bar. Owner is a legit cowboy. Dogs can run free. Great beer garden. Texas themed bar food. REAL country music. 10/10!!!

Do NOT run a tab, pay as you go. Was there on 2/18 for about 3 hours, I was drinking Jack & Coke, husband was drinking Knob Creek w/a splash of water, we had chicken nachos and tacos. Our bill was $173. Asked for a itemized receipt and they printed us some garbage that was not itemized. Lesson learned, seems they take advantage of travelers as when we were waiting on our first drink, the owner/manager was having to go in and refund someone trying to payout as their card had been charged twice at checkout.

So this is a dive but in every respect but sometimes that's just what you want, right? The night I went there was cowboy karaoke - well, karaoke, but some cowboy hats, and everyone there (all locals) put up with my friends screeching. Seriously, why did someone put on bohemian rhapsody.. ah well. People were good humored, non creepy, and there were pool tables and a fun outside swing. One of those "you have to be there to get it" places... that was Marfa in general!

Do yourself a favor if you are passing through for lunch or maybe an early dinner get a Lonestar beer and a burger! You won't be disappointed.

It's a cool looking place, but . . . I was told the guy who owns this bar has been an extra in a couple of movies shot around town ("No Country For Old Men" and "There Will be Blood"). He looks and acts the part, which means he's not very welcoming. I was there with my adult nephew one afternoon on the recommendation of a local. We were the only ones in the bar. Just to be an a-hole, the owner guy asked me and my nephew if we were on a date. For all the press Marfa gets as a progressive outpost, it's still West Texas.

Dive bar! Free pool, smoking lounge, local beer options, music venue. This is the spot if you want cheap booze awesome bands and real locals. We came in the off-season. But that's what we like. It was slow it was awesome we saw we drink we yelped..

I have been waiting to go here for a long time. We drove through Marfa about a year ago but couldn't stop. I love it!!! Everyone is sooooooooooo friendly. Ordered a drink that she wasnt as familiar with but we both had fun with it. I'm loving the atmosphere and the friendliness...

Had a few Hendricks and tonic here! Great hangout spot. Dogs welcome! The owner is really cool! Great food in the kitchen too!

We loved this place on our West Texas stop. Great backyard and cold beer as well as a friendly staff. Great burger place El Camino out back. Cool parking lot full of bottle caps too.

I was traveling through. Do not go here unless you are a local. Drinks are insanely pricey and are not good. I think locals get a better price - more power to them-- but they don't treat visitors well. Skip. Go to one of the many other bars in town.

This place was welcoming and unusual! Don't let the fact that it looks ruin down fool you, once you walk in it has historic items and an old cantina feel! The guy at the bar was friendly, attentive, and had lots of suggestions on where to visit in Marfa other then the lights! Oh yeah BEER Was super cold that's a plus for me! This place is worth going in for a beer or two and chatting with locals!

Bartenders ignored us as if we didn't exist. I guess I wasn't hipster-cowboy enough for the rude bartenders. Left without getting a drink.

We love the Lost Horse. Best place to meet locals and visitors, old and young. As a non-drinker, it speaks volumes that I ALWAYS have a good time at the Pony (local speak), regardless of consumption. Warning, it can be quiet in the early hours, but like the Marfa Lights, if you wait long enough, it's bound to pick up speed.

Spittoons on the corners of the bar? Does it get anymore "Texas" -- thankfully I didn't have to witness them being used. Cool spot & the vibe can literally chance overnight which was refreshing. Walking up through all the bottle caps strewn throughout the lot next door was an experience in itself. Good price, local vibes.

If someone would have told me Marfa was going to be full of so many GD good looking men then I would have taken the 6 hour road trip here years ago! I walked into this dive bar and was blown away by all the HOTTIES! I sat at the bar for a bit. The drinks were reasonably priced and just strong enough that I began making some small talk with a couple guys at the bar. One of them was a tall handsome dark headed guy in a dirty gold "Dickies" jacket. He was pretty hot but after about 15-20 minutes I realized he had not stopped talking about himself. LOL! I was having such a hard time getting an word in edge wise with this dude. He basically made it IMPOSSIBLE for me to turn on my charm as he would not stop yammering on and on and on and on about himself, his trailer, his car, his job, blah, blah blah blah. Finally, he paused to take a drink from his Lone Star and I excused myself to go bum a smoke from someone outside. LOL! Upon walking outside I discovered a smoking lounge in the back of the bar. The only thing I like better than HAWT men are smoking lounges! I get so tired of smokers like myself being made to feel bad about our lifestyle choices. The e-cigarette phase can go straight to HELL! I saw zero e-cigs in this bar. HORRAY. LOL! When I returned inside from smoking I made a beeline for the pool tables as I had noticed some hot younger men playing. As luck would have it Mr. Motormouth about himself was chatting it up with some leggy blonde at the bar and didn't even notice me. So I played a few games of pool with these hot young thangs then called it a night as it was getting late. LOL! Here's the thing, I'd read about the Marfa aesthetic but never realized it included HANDSOME men all about town! My first stop in town was a parking lot with food trucks (and so much hot a**) then this bar (with just as much hot a**) LOL! I can't wait to come back to this town! And next time I'm getting to this bar earlier so I can dance with some of these stone cold foxes. LOL!

Extremely overpriced! The bartender didn't know what to charge for a plain burger so he asked somebody on the other side of the bar, "what should I charge him for?" $16 for a meat, cheese and jalapeño burger. Charging top shelf prices for watered down drinks. $6 for a Dos Equis. Don't do it. I usually don't write reviews but this blew me away.

The locals at this dive think they are from central casting--movie extras in a Tarantino film. The service is surly and the beer warm. Boy, what a disappointment, even during Covid.

Come to town to try the local food. Picked this restaurant from the 4.0 star rating from Apple Maps. I was very disappointed in the experience. Food was room temperature and took a while. Not to mention, pricey for the quality of food I was given.

After dealing with fake Rastafarians taking an hour to make tacos and mediocre chili and handing me $2 bills, I just wanted to sit down somewhere and have a cold beer. This place delivered. Reminded me of the good redneck dive bars back home. Good service, good beer selection, solid atmosphere. I highly recommend this place for your drinking adventures.

Just off the main drag sits a gem in disguise. The Lost Horse Saloon is a local Marfa bar filled with west Texas flair. The drinks are well priced and one can't beat the ambiance of the place. Great music pumpin' out of the speakers, clean restrooms, and friendly bartenders and patrons are a few characteristics that can't be beat. There's a couch area for lounging, a few pool tables, and a comfortable and large patio area. Food can be found at the back of the building. Those burgers smelled delicious. I didn't eat. Everything looked like it came in a basket and smelled pretty good. Lucy was our chill bartender with great taste in music.

Only worthwhile and reall TEXAN hangout in Marfa. Nearly everytihng else if hipster, millenial, yankee noveau GARBAGE, Ty and all the dogs are cool as hell!

Great little drinking spot in West Texas town of Marfa. We were in the area for the chili cookoff in Terlingua and this bar was #1 on our list to check out. Great little place. Bartender was friendly, as was everyone else we talked to. Drinks were strong, Coke was good (had our 18-year old with us too). Also had a plate from the food truck in the back - food was very good. Would love to spend more time there the next time we visit.

Would have given higher rating but the drinks were expensive and the service was meh. Loved the fact that it was down to earth and very authentic. Just wish we would have felt more welcome (read: we r older and this place has a young clientele.)

OMG - kitchen accommodated us after selling out of tostadas - the chix burrito was divine - depth of flavor, yum ingredients, and a bit of spice! Wow! Hotel Saint George could learn hospitality from this dive bar.

Locals only it made me feel. Planet Marfa is much more. Dog friendly-ish. House dog is persnickety beer selection is meh. Did not feel comfortable.

Weird Marfa, unforgettable. ..this little town in the middle of the desert is anything but a little town in the middle of the desert

Diveiest bar ever! And I love it!. Arrived in Marfa on a Tuesday night with the boyfriend. We wanted to grab a quick beer before we headed out for dinner and this was one of the 2 that was open. Place is big, 2 pool tables a couple of lounge chairs, stage in the back and a large back yard to match. Decor is what you would expect, a little run down, smell of old beer and a large Texas flag.

Oh Marfa, how I miss thee! There's something about Marfa that really transforms you as a person & anybody living in Texas needs to make the journey there at least once in their lifetime. Marfa has a unique nightlife & The Lost Horse is a good place to start. In the world of Dive Bars, this place is definitely u p there with the best of them. Very rustic inside, has pool tables, & thursday nights feature $1 beers. When I stopped by they had Coors (I believe) & Alamo Beer. $1 Alamo beers were awesome that night! While the more upper-scale bars (Padre's, Planet Marfa, etc) are closer to the Hotel El Paisiano Hotel area & the tourists, Lost Horse is on the edge of town away from the crowd. Which is intriguing in itself. The Crowd was a mix of tourists & locals (while the others were mostly tourists from Austin) so you get to see the "real" side of Marfa. Lost Horse seems to be "where to locals go." Though it's been months since I visited Marfa, I still reminisce about our journey & am secretly plotting another getaway there someday. When I do, I will begin the adventure at the Lost Horse!

Dolla dolla beers y'all! And that ladies and gentlemen is all it takes to make a good bar (in my humble opinion).

Best dive in Marfa, Texas. Great happy hour and Thursdays are $1 beers! Granted they only had three taps: Bud Light, Shiner, and Alamo. Not bad. Great mix of locals, artsy, touristy people. Smoky, but they also have a patio. Tourist tip: Carry your mosquito spray with you at all times!!!!

Love this place!! So local that you feel a part of Marfa just by being here. Karaoke night is the best. Decent house margarita. Even better people watching.

If I could give this place a zero star I would, it's ridiculous how even during the week people that have to work the next morning have to put up with the obnoxiously loud and inappropriate music that can be heard all throughout Marfa.

This was our favorite bar in Marfa when we visited. Great outdoor area and very dog friendly!

Visiting Marfa last weekend we enjoyed some good drinks and good company at this dive bar. There was a DJ of sorts on Monday night. We had some friends meet us and we spent a lovely, albeit windy night in their open air back patio. The bartender was friendly and generous with the pour. He would periodically check on us and clear our table of bottles and glasses. You can come dressed as you are and just relax in this spot. You might even get to meet the OG of Marfa.. Bret Webb. He's a long time local that can recount 80 years of history for you in about 20 minutes if you offer him a chair!
