"Set on the ground floor of the same building as Selva, this transporting restaurant sets the mood for romance with its spectacular open-air courtyard and charming staff that seems to be pulled off the stages of Broadway. Going on 20 years, Los Danzantes (Spanish for “the dancers”) recently earned a Michelin Green star. The chef uses seasonal Oaxacan ingredients sourced from the restaurant’s organic garden or small growers, following a zero-waste policy, and the restaurant produces its own mezcal. The signature dish, a deceptively simple hoja santa filled with goat cheese and smothered in warm tomatillo sauce, pairs well with a sample flight of single-species mezcals." - Lauren Mowery
"A revered Oaxaca restaurant combining traditional and contemporary Mexican flavors."
"This Oaxaca favorite features a dazzling, open-air courtyard and refined dishes by Chef Alex Burgos. Notable dishes include hoja santa with local goat cheese and a mole sampler." - The MICHELIN Guide US Editorial Team
"This Oaxaca favorite can count more than 20 years of history to its name, but that’s not stopping them from forging ahead with their own ideas and sense of refinement. Set in a dazzling, open-air courtyard, the memorable space buzzes as personable servers guide locals and visitors alike. Start with hoja santa filled with local goat cheese and served in a warm tomatillo sauce before moving to the mole sampler, which is a masterclass in sauce work. Salsa borracha is another can’t-miss sauce that shines with tender pork ribs. Getting full? There is always room for the guava cheesecake, which is lighter than expected and crowned with mamey cream. The restaurant even makes its own mezcal, which is used in their finely made cocktails." - Michelin Inspector
"Contemporary Mexican Cuisine Los Danzantes is a hip restaurant offering contemporary Mexican cuisine. It’s located on Alcalá street, in the same building that houses the Oro de Monte Alban jewelry store. It’s in a large partially covered patio space, with adobe walls and a koi pond on one side, and a bar made of recycled materials. Many of the items on the menu are made with traditional Mexican ingredients, but combined in new and interesting ways, and presented artfully. If you’re not feeling adventurous, there are also a number of pasta dishes to choose from. For dessert, the cascada de chocolate (fondant cake), served with vanilla ice cream will satisfy any chocolate cravings you may have—but order it in advance because it takes about 20 minutes to prepare."
