Nestled in a lively Culver City walkway, Loqui serves up savory mesquite-grilled tacos and bowls with handmade tortillas in a chill, rustic setting.
"Both the Culver City and Arts District locations of this low-key taqueria are offering delivery and takeout. And besides the low-hanging pun we just made, there’s a lot to like about this affordable taco shop: Their pollo primo tacos are spicy, and packed with flavor, and the mushroom molcajete - basically a burrito bowl - is always an excellent choice. But what keeps us coming back are their fluffy flour tortillas. Made in-house and thicker than a bowl of oatmeal, these things are the perfect vehicle for everything on the menu, and deserve some type of award… even if that’s just your patronage. Order through their website, or find them on most major delivery apps." - kat hong
"Located inside Culver City’s upmarket mini-mall The Platform, Loqui is often used as a pitstop between shopping for high-end hand soap and designer furniture. In the least rude way possible, we see Loqui as a bougier alternative to Chipotle. This casual counter-service spot assembles tacos and bowls, both of which feature Loqui’s braised meats, like zippy cochinita pibil and marinated chicken that packs an unexpected kick. Their handmade flour tortillas are chewy, thick, and tender—not even in the same food group as the sad ones found at most chain restaurants. "This little spot inside Platform has a constant line at lunch, but any wait is worth it for some of the best tacos on this side of town. We’re especially into the mushroom ones, served on flour tortillas we regularly think about in 11am meetings. If you’d like to pretend to be healthy, they do a classier version of a burrito bowl. But you should still get one of those stretchy flour tortillas to go with it. " - nikko duren, brant cox
"This awesome (and affordable) Culver City taco spot is doing pick-up via the Platform Drive-Through, which is great for when your wallet is telling you to cook, but your brain can’t handle the idea of doing more dishes. Get one of the plates - either chicken or mushrooms - which are around $11 and come with tortillas, pickled onions, rice, beans, and tremendous guacamole. Go ahead and get a 12-pack of their fantastic flour tortillas, too. Order online, and follow the signs for the drive-thru once you’re there." - kat hong, brett keating
"We’ve all had that late afternoon meeting in Culver City, and we all know how truly terrible it is. So instead of starving yourself during the 405 gridlock, grab a quick bite at Loqui first and make the trip back home bearable. Located in a brand new complex next to the Blue Line stop, Loqui might seem like just another overpriced taco joint, but it’s not. Their spicy chicken is fantastic, the flour tortillas are made in-house, and even though $5 for a taco is a lot, they’re massive." - brant cox
