Tourist Tip: Merge this with stops at Cabrillo National Park, USS Midway/ floating maritime museums, and/or Seaport Village for a fun day along San Diego's water front.
This should be a stop for anyone visiting our great city of San Diego. Parking is free! Located at the historic Naval Boot Camp, the area has been transformed and refurbished to bring in restaurants, breweries, tourist shops, and desert shops. If you went to boot camp here, I can understand the hesitation, it's nothing like boot camp now.
If you're here to eat; there are several restaurants I.e. Stone Brewery, Slatter's 50/50, Corvette Diner, etc. If your party is indifferent, may I suggest The Public Market. The Market is sort of a food court with cuisine covering the spread of Asian, American, Mexican, and Indian.
If history is more your speed; there are sidewalks and paths to walk along and read plaques about the Naval history from decades ago. Submarine plaques by the water (closest to the airport) was astonishing to how many crews never returned from their patrols. Everything at NTC has been done to merge the new with the old.
The airport is just down the street. Usually our airport is the start, or end, of a person's trip. If you find yourself with a delay or a layover, NTC is close enough for a quick side trip. (I wouldn't waste the time walking, it may be a few hundred yards as the crow flies. Taking streets/sidewalks, it's about 3 miles away). Ride share companies are plentiful enough to make it there and back.
I hope you all enjoy NTC as much as we do!
