BUYER BEWARE! Do not ask, DEMAND, to have accurate photos taken BEFORE giving a deposit to Adam. The photos were in no way accurate with regards to the finish on the piece of furniture I decided to purchase from Adam and his 33rd Liberty store. Upon discovering the misrepresentation of this piece of furniture and requesting a refund based on its misrepresentation, my request for a refund was adamantly REFUSED. Read on for my experience ...
Initially, Adam was kind and very helpful when I was inquiring a piece of high-end bedroom furniture. Based on the description and the photographs, which were posted on Adams website, I decided to purchase a Drexel Heritage dresser for my bedroom. Adam stated that he required a $500 nonrefundable deposit to hold this is piece for me for 90 days, which would give me time to get rid of my old furniture and repaint my bedroom. Being thankful to Adam for offering to hold the dresser for me, I generously decided to give him a $2000 deposit instead of the $500 that he initially requested. My exact words to him was, " I know you have bills to pay and employees to pay", and therefore, out of the goodness of my heart, my deposit was $1500 more than he required
In the meantime, I was searching the web for other pieces of the same line of furniture by Drexel Heritage to match the dresser. I soon discovered that the pieces I was finding elsewhere did not remotely match the finish of the dresser what were posted on Adam's website. I was extremely disappointed and attempted to communicate with Adam to request a refund. Adam avoided me and basically forced me to communicate with him through another one of his employees. During a phone conversation with one of his employees, Andrew, I was advised that Adam will in no way issue me a refund. As Andrew pointed out, all sales are final and no refunds were to be issued. Evidently, photograph misrepresentation of the actual items for sale in this store is quite convenient for Adam. Not wanting to deal with this business any longer, and knowing I would be forfeiting the $500 deposit, I asked for the remaining deposit, which would equal $1500. I absolutely positively knew that when I signed the contract virtually, it's specifically stated that the $500 deposit was nonrefundable. When I asked for the additional $1500 to be refunded to me, Andrew refused, stating that ANY and ALL deposits were nonrefundable. Andrew stated that Adam "would do me the favor" of giving me six months to purchase another item which he would apply the $2000 deposit that I was about to lose. After my awful experience, the last thing I wanted was to purchase another item from Adam. But given that I would lose $2000, I felt my only option would be to purchase another piece and trust that there were no more issues. I ended up purchasing a refinished Henredon bedroom dresser. As an FYI, I based my decision to purchase this item was only AFTER I searched Google and Yahoo images of the same piece of furniture, instead of trusting Adam's poor photography. I also opted to purchase the two matching nightstands, which were also refinished, from Adam. I was worried that the dresser being refinished may not match the finish on nightstands if I purchased them from another individual.
So here we are three months after I made the purchases, and I received these three pieces two weeks ago. The dresser and one of the nightstands were nicely refinished, to which I am thankful considering what I had already been through. However, the second night stand's mahogany and walnut veneer is lifting off in a couple of different places on its top. I know better than to expect Adam do something about this piece of damaged furniture, since "all sales are final", despite the fact that I paid top dollar for these two nightstands.
I will absolutely positively NEVER make another expensive furniture purchase online ever again, thanks to this costly "mistake" by Adam and his "liberty 33rd" business.
To this day, I have not heard one single word from Adam. I trusted him. I had faith in him. I gave him $1500 MORE than he required, and I faced losing it all! Day by day it seems that more and more people live and survive by unethical practices and very questionable morals. The only thing I can say is karma will one day catch up with Adam. If I lived my life by the same morals and integrity that this guy does, I would rather be poor and homeless!
