Came here for a birthday dinner, the ambience was very cozy and quiet, it wasn't busy at all when we got there. The appetizers were okay, the escargot was good but the fried brie cheese was a bit too heavy on the seasonings, in our opinion. The main courses however were great; the steak was cooked and seasoned well, and the fries had a good amount of salt. The duck breast tasted like ham, it paired well with the sauce and wedges on the side. The desserts were great as well, the mousse au chocolat was a bit small for the price, though it was very rich. Overall, great experience, would probably try the crepes or French Onion Soup next time.

After waiting awkwardly at the front door for the hostess (which never came) a waiter finally took the initiative to direct me to my seating. Honestly I did not have high hopes for the food after reading the reviews and was not shocked after tasting it. Every dish that came out was cold and lacked flavour and salt. The appetizers came out so fast it was a little sketchy. What we ordered: French Onion Soups Deep Fried Brie Escargot Smoked Duck Breast Boeuf Bourguignon Bouillabaisse Steal and Fries Cassoulet The Deep Fried Brie was cold and tasted like regular mozzarella sticks at a pub, the Escargot lacked so much flavour. There was no garlic butter taste at all! The Smoked Duck Breast tasted like holiday ham and it was a super small portion. The beef in the Beef Stew was dry and the rice was al dente, Steak and fries were SALTY and the best thing in the Cassoulet was the piece of pork belly it came with. The only things that was good was the Bouillabaisse and French onion soup. 2 stars for the waiter that was super friendly and honest and the cocktail my cousin ordered. We also had a birthday cake ($2.50) fee per person.

This sweet St Lawrence staple has been on my list for sometime and I’m so glad my partner and I finally had some time to sit down here for a cozy dinner. Our server Juan was lovely and took the time to recommend the best-ofs on the menu including the French onion soup, the smoked Duck breast, and the Pâtes aux Fruits de Mer all of which paired wonderfully with each other. The pasta is excellent for those looking for a garlic dish over seafood and the Duck breast is an excellent shareable with the breast cut into 7 bite sized pieces served under a heavenly mixed berry sauce and a side of potatoes and string beans. The French onion soup is a tasty and hearty starter to any dish on the menu. Looking forward to coming back to sampling the rest of the menu soon! ☺️

Food here is so tasty! We ordered a large onion soup (and we were able to share between 2 ppl), for main plates we had the beef bourguignon and the bouillabaisse, both were delicious. For dessert we ordered the lava cake with ice cream and it was perfect! My husband loved the beer also. The place is cozy and really cute. They also served bread and butter in the beginning. Our waiter was Francesco and he was friendly and attentive. Awesome experience.

Surprisingly quiet for a Saturday night as there were quite a few empty tables in the restaurant. We got the escargot and french onion soup to start, then the classic coq au vin and smoked duck breast for our entrées. The service was generally good, except we found a piece of hair in our glass of water. The food was good as I expected but nothing to be excited about either.

We came here after work as a group, it was a Thursday night and the place was a bit empty. The service was great and quick, staff was very friendly and welcoming. We ordered a few appetizers for the table such as tuna tartare, shrimps and baked brie cheese, which tasted delicious!!! I had steak and fries for main, my colleagues had different dishes and everyone enjoyed their meal. It looks like it could be a nice place for a romantic dinner, if you are looking for one.

We decided to try something different and a little on the fancier side for our most recent date night and Le Papillon was the perfect spot as we don’t really do French cuisine. The place itself is gorgeous and has a lovely vibe. The service was exceptional right from the moment we entered the place. Good variety of drinks including wine and cocktails. For starters, we went with the much-hyped French onion soup, and it was DELICIOUS. I’d keep coming back just for the soup. Their crepes looked really tempting so we had to try one (seafood) and it did not disappoint. The Cassoulet was one of their top items and more on the meaty side. The portions were just the right amount. Their desserts were a perfect end to our lovely evening, especially their Pouding Chômeur! Overall it was an amazing experience dining at Le Papillon and would highly recommend it for a date night or just a casual evening with friends.

nice ambiance, excellent service and friendly staff. food was good, but dont expect a blissful gastronomic experience. escargot would be better if served in the shells with escargot tong and had more garlic & butter. crepe de la mer was so delicious i would visit again just for it. portion of duck breast and new york steak were kinda small but taste good. burnt sugar layer of creme brulee was way too thick but i like the pudding part. wine was solid, nothing to criticize.

Le Papillon, located just steps away from the downtown core / financial district and entertainment centres such as Scotiabank Arena (previously called ACC), makes it an ideal dining spot for tourists and locals alike. Everything from the ambience and service to food is excellent here. There is a small patio outside for the summer months, but most of the seatings are indoor. It may seem small from the outside, but the inside is quite spacious. The ambience is really nice, and they offer some typical French fare such as escargot. They're most well known for their crepes, which are some of the best crepes in the city. Their salmon dish (which I had as part of Winterlicious) was really well done as well, with great sides (nice crisp, not over-cooked vegetables).

I went here on a Wednesday around 6:50pm after the zoo and making a quick walk through visit at St. Lawrence Market. I went here for dinner since it's near where I was at and is a sit down restaurant! Anyways, I heard that Canada is popular for their meat pie, so I knew I had to find a place to get it! We ordered the Tourtière Maison, St.-Laurent Crepe, and our meal came with a basket of Complimentary Bread! The Tourtière Maison is basically the meat pie, which is a very simple dish. The meat pie was still good even though it's a very simple dish and the meats weren't dry either! This restaurant is known for their crepes, so we got crepes too which the one we got was the St.-Laurent Crepe. That crepe wasn't crispy like the crepes I'm used to, but I liked how it felt like it was more on the savory side. I'd recommend this place if you want to try a meat pie. Their crepes aren't bad either, but both dishes were very simple which isn't what I'm used to. Everything did taste good though!

Awesome, centrally located downtown spot with classic French entrees. Service was perfect. Located in an interesting old building. We enjoyed starters and entrees. Tip - Thursday night they had half off wines.

Ambience 4 stars, food just 2, service was OK (as a European, I prefer discrete service over talkative one anyway). We ordered the escargot, crêpe bourguignonne, roasted duck and cassoulet and two aperitif drinks. Nothing was exciting, and everything but the cassoulet tasted bland -- the cassoulet was salty. Did we leave the restaurant feeling full? Yes. Were we happy and satisfied? No. Too bad, because for $119 plus tip I would expect to walk out of a restaurant feeling like I experienced something nice. Should have looked at the reviews here with more attention...

I had a great time here. I got the steak which was tender and almost kinda melts in your mouth. Service was great on top of it. It wasn't busy when we were there, so it gave an intimate ambiance. Overall the restaurant was very pleasant to eat at.

I came here for Winterlicious. Le Papillon is a French restaurant on Front Street right next to St. Lawrence Market. Prime location, street parking nearby. Overall mixed review on its food. The appetizers were simple, but so good. I tried the Winter Salad (kale, apple, dried cranberry, feta cheese crumble, orange-grainy mustard). The dressing was tangy and the perfect touch. Maybe a bit much but I liked it. The Fried Calamari was lightly battered, not overdone. Also great. The mains were the most disappointing to me. I had the Orange Duck (duck leg confit served with an orange-Grand-Marnier sauce, potatoes and vegetables). It was almost like a regular chicken drumstick. Fish (pan seared seabass served with maple-soy glaze, rice and vegetables) did not taste fresh at all. They were nothing special at all, even a bit bland. The desserts were just okay. I tried the Crème Caramel (caramel-vanilla custard) and Pouding Chômeur (golden cake with a hot caramel sauce served with French vanilla ice cream). They were moist and tasty.

Two stars just for the very friendly staff and the brick walls of the restaurant. I'm so so disappointed in the food. I was not expecting that I must say. We got the French onion soup, which looked great, but it lacked taste and everything else that comes with a French onion soup! It was really watery, I really couldn't find the baguette in it and then it tasted like a stale slice of bread, and not enough cheese. I love French food and I know what a good soup tastes like. This wasn't it. Then I had the steak. I asked for medium, it was almost well done and sat in a pool of bloody water in my plate. I mean we all watch Master Chef! We know you should never serve a steak like that! And at the end, the creme brûlée. It was delicious, but, warm in the middle and very very cold all around. I know you're not making it that minute but at least make an effort to make the whole thing the same temperature. Unfortunately we won't be back, But sincerely hoping they would try to make it better.

It's such a great little place. The atmosphere is nice and wasn't busy when we went for brunch. The service was efficient. There's plenty of natural light so you don't at all feel claustrophobic. There is a very diverse menu full of good food. They also have good coffee.

Came here for winterlicious this year out of recommendation. I was quite impressed when we got in as it was quite a romantic and grand restaurant. Upon seeing the menus, I noticed that the winterlicious menu is quite different from the regular menu and only a few standard items can be found. We decided to order only one winterlicious set (calamari, duck confit and pouding chomuer - of which only the dessert was a regular item). We also decided to order a tourtière and a french onion soup. Not sure if it was because we were a big table, but our food took a long time to come. We only got our appetizers about an hour after we sat down. Food wise, everything was very average in my opinion. Nothing was bad per se, but nothing was really memorable. We did however, realize that we don't enjoy tourtières. Our waitress was very nice and polite, but however she was very busy and it was hard to find her whenever we needed something, which made our meal overall much longer than we expected. Overall, I'm glad winterlicious gave me a chance to try this place, however I don't think it made a strong enough impression on me for me to come back again.

Really enjoyed our experience. Highly recommend the lamb shank, taste great with big portions. Also ordered classic French dishes like French Onion Soup, Bouillabaise, and Escargot. Restaurant has a nice atmosphere with beautiful French songs. The restaurant is huge by the way, with a lot of seatings and big space.

Le Papillon is a French restaurant serving Toronto since 1974 (wow, such a long history!) and located right on Front Street, a prevalent area for tourists visiting the nearby attractions like Ripley's Aquarium, CN Tower, and others. I had actually been to Le Papillon on Front many years ago in university with some friends for dinner. I remember the dimly lit French dinner being so-so and thus was never interested or eager to return for another meal. When K suggested this spot for brunch, I actually rejected the idea until I looked at their website and noticed that the menu items were somewhat appealing and decided to try it. After all, my first impression being ten years old needed a bit of an update. I actually didn't even know that they served brunch items. A lot of folks were dining here already when we arrived. It seemed to cater to a mature crowd. The space was very sophisticated with dark wood tones and hanging lights. The menu items were actually quite vast with not only traditional brunch items but carried French dishes which reflected their featured cuisine. We were served water from a pitcher and also given a basket of bread. The Escargots arrived nearly immediately after we placed our order. It smelled amazingly of garlic and I was excited to dig in. The escargots were befitted in the typical hollowed dish for escargots with a garlic parsley butter sauce. The escargots were good and the accompanying bread was the perfect companion to soak up all of the extra butter sauce. The Tourtière Maison was a traditional Quebecois meat pie of seasoned beef, veal, and pork served with a house chutney served with frites and green salad. It was a beautiful colourful platter and generously portioned too! It was so photogenic! The meat pie actually wasn't what I had in mind. It was a fairly smooth blend of the beef, veal, and pork in the pie's filling with a thin pie crust. I was expecting more of a textured juicy and saucy meat pie with pastry filling. Nevertheless, it was decent-tasting, especially in the first few bites. I wish there was a sauce with the meat pie since the last few bites were a bit dry for my taste. The green salad was nice and the mayo on the side paired well with the frites. The St. Laurent Crêpe had strip bacon, fresh cooked apples, and cheddar cheese in it. Visually, the plate didn't look as appetizing as the meat pie but luckily the taste was all right. I liked the abundance of bacon in it with the cheese and tarty apples. There wasn't too much variety though other than the single ingredients mentioned above so if I would have gotten that dish, I might have gotten bored of it rather quickly. The restaurant wasn't too busy at all on this Saturday for brunch and it was a little surprising to me considering how many people yearn for good Saturday brunch spots (perhaps the millennials aren't interested in these classy older spots?). Nevertheless, it was nice to try out the brunch at Le Papillon on Front.

Very disappointed, I don't do reviews at all as i treat all food business as fair big or small. However, when my husband and I visited this restaurant to have dinner, we're not just disappointed, we felt as though they knew it but didn't make it right for their patrons. Food does not have the taste of a French cuisine, presentation is like what you'll see in a food truck (although some food trucks have good presentation and taste better). Anyway, overall, I won't recommend this restaurant to anyone.

We were looking to grab a meal before a play at the nearby St. Lawrence Centre, and Le Papillon is one of those places that's been around forever but which I've never actually checked out. Now I'm just sorry I waited so long to stop in. We showed up at around 6:00 on a recent Saturday and the place was maybe a third full. Our French waiter was very friendly, and offered to start us off with some bread and butter. I'll admit I was a little disappointed that the butter wasn't homemade, but the bread was quite good, at least. One of my favorite things ever is chicken liver pate, so obviously we had to start with the Pâté & Terrine appetizer ("Our home made Chicken Liver Pâté and Pork Terrine served with craquelins"). And indeed, the chicken liver pate did not disappoint. It was served with a shell of torched sugar, which I'd never seen before but absolutely works. The pork terrine wasn't quite as successful, as it was a little dry and tough. (When eaten with the included mustard and onions, though, it was much improved.) For my main, I decided to go with the Boeuf Bourguignon ("traditional French beef stew, rice & market vegetables"). While I wouldn't say this was the best version of the venerable French dish I've ever had, I definitely enjoyed it quite a bit. The tender pieces of meat and vegetables were swimming in a very tasty sauce, while the rice and veggies made a perfect accompaniment. I can definitely see myself return soon, if only to try one of the joint's many crepes.

Came here looking for a light dinner ( we just wanted some soup as I wasn't feeling so well). 1. Scallops on risotto - this is a perfectly balanced, must try appetizer here. 3 perfectly seared scallops with microgreens and capers on "risotto" that resembled a hash brown. Its difficult to see in pictures, but the dish is also surrounded in a flavourful, creamy sauce that you can dip the risotto or your bread in. The server also mentioned this was her favourite dish. 2. The smoked salmon (with brioche?) - 4 slices of smoked salmon with a lemon wedge, 4 slices of toasted bread, and some green salad in the center. The salmon was good, very generous for the amount of bread. However, the salad in the center was so random. There was boiled carrot chunks, radish, greens, peppers.... the salad was either pickled or just heavily washed in an extremely sour dressing. My friend and I ate 1 or 2 bites but it was just too sour to finish. I would recommend skipping this dish, especially for the high price. 3. French Onion Soup - Super thick cheese that is fired to have a crispy shell like a creme brule! It had a sweetness to it and was extremely rich. Very flavorful and came pipping hot. The tall ramekin it came in made it difficult to scoop up soup from the bottom. 4. Spinach Lentil Soup (Soup of the day) - it looks unappetizing as its a dark brown/green but it is what it is... The soup came in a shallow dish and arrived warm. It quickly cooled to a cold/room temperature in less than 5 minutes, while the french onion soup remained super hot! The soup was just okay. I liked how it didn't appear oily, but this is another item I would skip. One other thing that annoyed me, we had finished half our bread when the server took it away and replaced it with a new basket. Why? We were still eating it. Are they just going to throw away the bread or reuse it????? What??? I found it just unnecessary as we were both clearly using it for our soups. Venue and washroom is very large and has a nice "date night" feel to it. There is also a nice bar in the center.

I love this place. Friendly and patient staff. Food was decent. The fact I can book for a large group for brunch is amazing because everywhere else is first come first serve basis. i dont think you want to deal with 10+ ppl waiting in line with you for a table. I had the stuffed french toast. Zesty cream cheese with mixed berry compote was an amazing combo. I havent been to this place for a long while, so Im not sure about the food for lunch and dinner. Yet their menu has a lot of french / québécois related food items I would like to try. Will be back for sure.

Nice place for brunch. Had the crepe and French toast... good, but nothing special. Service was great and patio was nice though! More of a convenient place to stop at rather than a destination restaurant.

Their French Onion Soup was so delicious! Rich cheese covered on the top, a little bit overbaked, and some chunks are in the soup, with butter and onions, very tasty! I had St. Laurent Crepe. The crepe itself was crispy, it had apple, bacon and cheddar inside and maple syrup on the side. The sweet-salty-flavor combination made the crepe taste special. My friend had Beouf Bourgogne, it was more savory with beef inside. I like mine better. The ambient was good, located in downtown but not that noisy. Like this place.

I was here for Summerlicious. I have caprese salad as a start and it was a disappointment to see a little sprinkle of cheese on 3 big tomato pieces. Beef ribs were excellent this is where my 3 points come from. I love the sauce for it as well, veggies with it were nothing great. The dessert was a pie which I could probably easily pick up at Metro. My friend has a sweet potato soup as a start and it was good, pickerel for the main was very bland and tasteless. Our server was a sweetheart.

Trying out their poutine and their french onion soup today. I don't know of many places that have french onion soup so I am very excited! The poutine fries were nicely crisped, with melted cheese and french onion soup sprinkled on top. The french onion soup really made this appetizer utterly addicting. The fries near the end will be a bit soggy though which is to be expected so got to eat this fast unless you don't mind soggy fries. The french onion soup was also really good, reminiscent of the delicious soup I had in Paris, except that the cheese on the top of this soup was slightly too burnt which is my only complaint. The salad on the side is plain salad so not much to expect. I would say this is more on the fancier side of restaurants, we even ordered some wine to complement our meal. They had us test the wine before ordering it and such. Fancy! I actually regret ordering both an appetizer and main. The poutine was so filling I barely made a dent in my french onion soup. Next time, I need to remind myself to only get one haha. Considering the amount and quality of the food for the price, I would rate them a bit better than average. Just FYI, their French onion soup is gravy. Like it literally looks and tastes like gravy. And as a gravy it would be delicious. Top some fries and curds with this and I actually think it would be unbelievable. But I doubt anyone who orders French onion soup is expecting gravy. Especially at a place marketed as a French restaurant. Service, location and vibe is nice.

Tried their winterlicious lunch menu on a Sunday afternoon. Their restaurant is pretty large with a lot of seatings. There were a few people in the restaurant when we arrived with a party of four. It was busy at all for a Sunday. We all ordered off the winterlicious menu. The tartine was nice and the pasta was filling and the food was good but nothing spectacular. The waiters are attentive and asked how our food was. Overall good service and okay food for $23 for a three course meal.

Maybe I got lucky but my recent foodie experience at Le Papilon was one of the best I've ever had. After visiting the St. Lawrence market, I wanted to treat my wife to a Sunday brunch. I quickly cruised through some reviews and Le Papillon On Front stood out. Both good and bad reviews about service and certain types of food but overall better than average. Sounds like I need to make my own judgment. OK, je vais essayer (Ok I will try it!). Nice little al fresco patio in front of the main entrance but a little too chilly for us to dine outside. Quickly looked at the menu posted on the front window. Crepes - SOLD! Walked in and I am welcomed with a café/wine bar that separates the front and rear dining areas. The host greeted us and we were quickly seated to a table beside large windows that brought in just enough lighting to make us feel comfortable and warm. I took a quick peek behind the bar and was amazed how large the rear dining area is. A little darker but the lighting from the ceiling and wall sconces added to that romantic, fine dining ambiance. After looking over the menu and trying to make a few indecisive choices, our server Tom, quickly introduced himself and asked if we were ready to order. We asked if he had any recommendations with their crepes list and he quickly pointed out 3 popular dishes. So we decided to try the St. Laurent ($15 - strip bacon, fresh cooked apples, cheddar cheese) with a side of maple syrup (extra $2 - You gotta have this!) and also ordered the Croque Monsieur ($15). "With a fried egg ($2)?" Tom asked. "Sure why not!" I replied. Our food arrived in just a little over 15 minutes. The portions of each ingredient were spot on. Crepe cooked through perfectly. The combination of lightly salted bacon, the slight tarty taste of the cooked apples, melted cheddar cheese, and the oh-so-sweet taste of true maple syrup is an absolute must-try. But wait, the Croque-Monsieur! Well it becomes a Croque-Madame when you add the fried egg (I'm still scratching my head why adding the egg makes it a Croque-Madame). Black forest ham, béchamel sauce, and more cheese please! A little bit of green salad topped with a vinaigrette dressing and a side serving of crunchy French fries were both fantastic. But the egg on top of the Croque-Madame just made the dish. I mean breaking the yolk and having it mix in with the béchamel sauce just tied everything together. What I love was that both dishes were great to share. The service was excellent! Tom checked up on us, gave us time and space to enjoy our food. Even after waiting for the bill, the host was gracious and helpful to take our plates away while speaking a little French on the side. It was the perfect Sunday Brunch! This review for 2018 winterlicious menu. What I recommend to order: salmon for starter, veal for main, pecan pie for dessert Service: 4/5 Food: 3/5 Dessert: 1/5 Reservation Needed: probably not Value worth for winterlicious: average, you get what you pay for, not a good deal though I came here with my family. I made a reservation in advance; however, this place looks pretty empty that I don't think a reservation would be needed. So we tried out winterlicous menu here. Starter: we all ordered salmon for the starter. The dish came with 2 pieces of bread, a little bowl of salmon and a very small salad. You spread salmon on the bread. The taste is pretty good. Main: we ordered chicken and veal. The Veal Roulade only has 3 pieces. Both dishes have mashed potatoes and boiled veggie. The portion is good. I like the taste of veal. For chicken, it tastes a bit dry. Dessert: we actually order all 3 desserts here. White and Dark chocolate mousse is extremely sweet, I could not finish my dish. Key Lime Pie is extremely sour as well, which my mother could finish either. They don't have Double Chocolate Pecan Pie, but Pecan Pie, which tastes somewhat sweet as well. However, this dish is the best tasting one. Overall, I think this winterlicious experience is pretty average. I do not think I get a good winterlicious deal.

Well I would be honest I was very disappointed with the food at this restaurant. We ordered tuna tartare, Bouillabaisse, Tourtiere Maison and steak and fries. Bouillabaisse Was complete disappointment: fish was so dry, scallops over cooked that you can. It chew it at all, no mussels!!!! Steak was absolutely not eatable, chewy not tender. Tourtiere Maison was fine but they served it with cold mashed potato and tuna tartare was pretty much that you can expect from fresh Tuna but nothing special. That was our first time there and definitely last one. We also ordered the tea that they just forget to serve. So definitely north worse the money. For $150 I can find something so much better. I did like the interior but maybe only for glass of wine, not place to eat. I read so many good reviews and I was completely disappointed.

Oof, I don't want to sh*t on this place because the service was very kind... but the food is not that great. My boyfriend and I came here for the summerlicious menu. Expecting to try some great food for a great price, we found ourselves slowly chewing the food and telling each other ways we would cook them differently since we both love being in the kitchen. -We started out with the ratatouille which was served with a garlic baguette. It was a hearty dish, but I didn't taste much garlic from the baguette. I give that dish a pass, I thought it did alright. -For the main course, I got a crepe and my boyfriend go the burger and fries. The crepe was filled with caramelized onions, swiss cheese, egg and ham and it sounds great but all the ingredients had the same sweetness too it that it all ended up tasting like one big blob of the same thing and I had A LOT of it on my plate too. I didn't finish it. As for the burger and fries, the burger was very beefy and I felt that it lacked seasoning. It tasted very much as if you just cooked ground beef and just sandwiched it between some lettuce, tomato and buns. The fries were good, it's hard to mess up french fries. -For dessert, I had the creme custard thing and my boyfriend had the mango sorbet. The sorbet was good, perfect for a hot summers day. I felt my custard was overbaked, the consistency was a little more firm than what I look for in custard and rather than having syrup drizzled over it kinda just sat in a pool of syrup.. not ideal. Now the service is a different story. The host was very enthusiastic and delightful and our server was humorous and quite helpful. It was service with a smile all throughout and that saves me from docking it to two stars. The venue was clean and quite old Parisian, it makes sense because it's a french restaurant and I admit it reminds me of what it felt like to eat in france (despite the food) so they did okay there. I think I want this review to be directed more towards the chefs of this restaurant as feedback more so than customers as a review because this place has some improvement to do before putting themselves out there.

My family and I ended up at Le Papillon just by chance. It was a Saturday at around 11:30am and there wasn't a crazy lineup for brunch so we where happy to be able to be seated right away and without a reservation! The interior was a bit dark for early morning brunch so it had more of a romantic dinner vibe rather than weekend brunch vibe about it, dark wood, red accents, big mirrors. The serve was really good. We did not have to wait, our server was friendly and efficient in taking our orders and our food arrived quickly. They were even great in adjusting my cousin's order to accommodate a food allergy. The food was tasty as well. We all enjoyed our meals. The price point was reasonable and although it is a French restaurant we were able to get some traditional brunch food that I could pronounce - my cousins spoke French so I was pretty safe either way! Actually the menu is in English so not to worry! I would visit Le Pappillon again. It's next to the St. Lawrence Market (and Union Station) if you want to make a morning visit of the area. Tip: we did arrive before noon but I noticed the restaurant did start filling up afterwards so perhaps consider calling ahead if you plan to go later in the afternoon as it is a busy area in the city.

Not really much to comment on this location. It's not an authentic French dining experience if that is what you are looking for. Rather, it was a rather basic experience. You order maybe a crepe and it's decent but as decent as you can get at the Eaton Centre.

New York steak comparable but not better than Baton Rouge in Vaughan. Their shrimp appetizer and salads are quite good. Was here with colleagues from the office for year end Christmas lunch.

Pretty good as far as restaurants go. We tried the sharing platter, clam chowder, filet mignon, steak, duck, lamb and creme brulee when we went and they were all fine-tasty but not mouthwateringly delectable. The staff was very prompt and courteous, making the experience pleasant. The price was reasonable for what we ate.

Good food in a charming decor. Music was not too loud; it was recognizable jazz standards from the 1950's & 60's while I was there. The music created a calm, happy mood in which dinner conversation could easily be enjoyed without oral/aural strain. Our waitress handled every aspect of her job with ease, and had just the right balance of formality and informality.

Wanted to try some fench food for summerlicious, and le papillion was the most convinient. I was a little underwhelmed by my experience, but in fairness, summerlicious is a diluted experience of a restaurant. All the meuu items looked delicious, and if given the oppurtunity, i would try its full experience. Right off the bat, the service was good. Water was always full, waiter was polite and patient, and food arrived promptly. However, the patio is quite small and the table is quite cramped. The appetizer I got off the summerlicious menu was the smoked salmon, which was very bland. It felt like they just took salmon out of a package and threw it on a plate. I would suggest that you get the salad or soup for summerlicious. We got all the entrees available for summerlicious (the fish, the chicken, and the pork), and all provided the french flavour I expected. The chicken was moist, and had a terrfic sauce on it (the name escapes me), the fish also had unique sweet flavour; being seasoned with mangos. The pork, however, was a tad dry, but the wine sauce and mushroom made up for it. The desserts offered were also amazing, but the crepe had a strong liqour taste. Overall, the food had the quality and flavour, but I expected more for the price. Again, it may be diluted, because of summerlicious, but it is a nice change of pace for someone used to constant asian food. Would I recommend for summerlicious, maybe not. I just expected more from le papillion.

Haven't been to le Papillon for years so was looking forward to revisiting this quaint Toronto landmark. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and amicable waiter. We ordered the French onion soup to share which was savoury and tasty but tepid instead of piping hot. The breaded brie was also barely warm and the fruit compote placed on the side along with sauce nicely seasoned. The brie was just okay and the presentation of this dish was underwhelming. I ordered the smoked duck breast served with mashed potatoes and roast veggies. The duck was nicely smoked and tender, mashed potatoes underseasoned,and roast veggies very unimpressive. Presentation of food was also unimpressive and underwhelming. The other plates were at best mediocre in terms of taste, seasoning,flavour and presentation. The dessert was by far the highlight of the evening. Pound cake with salted caramel sauce. For the price point there are many other comparative restaurants in Toronto to consider offering better quality and value.

My wife and I ate at Papillon in a former location back in 2007 while in Toronto to see RUSH play at Maple Leaf Stadium (twice in three nights). We had a very pleasant meal and I wanted to honor that since my wife couldn't come along this time. The new location is well placed and entirely walkable from anywhere downtown. Plenty of taxis if you prefer car. I started with the steak tartare and a lightly buttery California Chardonnay which was a good pairing. The bread, a sort of baguette crostini, served with the tartare, however, was stale and not really toasted. More like day or two old bread that was warmed for thirty seconds under a warming lamp. The tartare was good, not special. I figured I'd see how large the tartare was before deciding what else to order. I definitely could not go with a full entree, and the crepe menu is attractive. I got the bacon, apple, cheddar crepe and it was quite large, figure most of a dinner plate. Still, it was good and I managed it all with some effort. Ha!! No dessert after that of course. Wait staff were quite nice and I'd like to go with four stars but can't get over that bump because there just is no fine dining aspect to this place, it's sort of a solid middle-of-the-road restaurant considering it is French food. I would return if I were hungry and without a reservation at one of the finer French places in Toronto.

Came here on a quiet Thursday! The restaurant is huge but barely 20% filled! Got a Buytopia to try it out! It came with 2 glasses of wine, a salad to share, 2 Frencj Onion Soup, 2 main dish & 2 dessert! All for $49! The salad was reg mixed salad! They were tinsy bit frugal in the egg, gave us a sliver of hard boiled egg between 2 person as did 1 asparagus! The soup however was delish! Unlike the French version which is way too salty! This was one of the best French Onion soup ever! Both of us had the Duck Confit which I thought was superb! Very crisp skin no duck fat visually present! I hate it when I can see the fatty bits of the duck! One complaint was the mash potato tasted not that fresh! As if it's been made a week before! The fresh beans was nice and crisp! The dessert was a tad bit weak coz it didn't feature their specialty only apple crumb and some sort of caramel cake! Overall delicious, will definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a nice cozy romantic French meal!

I came here to celebrate my birthday. My friend and I came in early, so the restaurant was quiet with no lineup. The host and server were both great, and the ambiance was lovely. The only problem was the food. That was my first time dining there, but my friend had told me good stuff about this place, so my expectation was higher. Bread wasn't impressive, I could make better bread as an amateur home baker. The seasoning for both mains were good, but bhe pasta was too soft, the steak had some sinewy part in the center that was impossible to chew, and the fries came along was quite tasteless. The chocolate mousse came in a ramekin (not sure if it was pre-made) in a big plate, with no decor at all...and it cost $9. Overall, I was very disappointed with the food.

Summerlicious dinner was hit and miss. Specifically, the smoked salmon-topped mixed bean medley was a miss. The salmon was all right but the beans tasted like they'd been out for a while, to the point where my stomach actually felt bothered by it. Not enough to deter me from eating the braised lamb shank, which was thankfully good. It came in a red wine reduction with mashed potatoes and veggies, which were unremarkable. The cheesecake was probably store bought. It would be shameful if that was made in house since it didn't taste fresh. It was okay for what it was. You can skip this place for Summerlicious. Perhaps they perform better for regular dinner service.

Had been here before with fond memories but last night was disappointing. Starting with drinks. I'm dry January so I ordered a diet cola. The waitress brought a can of Diet Coke and a glass not very classy. The waitress had no personality. No smile and no discussion just terse expressionless answers. We ordered our favorite appetizer, escargot, and they smelled great but tasted bland. Not buttery, more watery. They brought bread but it was cold. I thought they could have warmed it up with a nice cup of butter but they gave us butter packets.y gf has an onion intolerance and the waitress went back to the cooks. She came back and said all menu items have some onion in it and didn't offer anything special to accommodate her, just try this, it may have less onion. She got a seafood crepe and it tasted great, especially the sauce. I got seafood and pasta. The seafood was good but there was no sauce so it was pretty bland. For dessert we ordered crème brûlée. The waitress brought it but it was cold. How disappointing. Although the food was ok, I just felt that they didn't go that extra mile to ensure the service and food were extraordinary. I hope your experience is better than ours.

Lovely spot My husband and I love going to Le Papillon on Front when we want to relax on a nice patio with some great French food in the St Lawrence Market area. Feels like you're in Quebec City dining here. Their staff are friendly, prompt and provide excellent suggestions. Their soup of the day is always vegan. I love their Feuilletté de Fruits de Mers dish, which is sautéed shrimp, pan-seared scallops, tarragon cream sauce on a puff pastry.

Will not be back, had the Pave of Salmon with a side of fries for 21.00 . Salmon was a tad overcooked and the portion not worth the 21 dls.

I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner here at Le Papillon. Delicious crêpes, both savoury and sweet. There is a bit of crispness to the crêpe, which only adds to the taste. Would recommend to others, as it is a charming place to take coworkers or friends. The exposed brick adds to the rustic appeal and contributes to the overall french theme. Lovely and cannot wait to go again.

My friends and I decided to check out this place for their Winterlicious menu. The lunch menu was priced at $23 for a three course meal. The food turned out to be ok. We got one of each of the items on the menu so we could share and try all the dishes. But nothing was particularly amazing but it was kind of expected from the price. The restaurant itself does have a nice vibe and lady who served us was very sweet.

I used to go to Papillion about once a year but it had been about five years since my last visit. I think I remembered it a bit more romantically than the reality. The place is nice, and the food is good, but it's a little unremarkable -- especially compared against my past memories of the place. Maybe we just caught it on an off night but nothing about the visit really stood out.

I dislike having to write unfavourable reviews, but my wife & I were quite disappointed with our meals at Le Papillon on a recent Saturday evening. First the good. Service was excellent in all respects. Maitre D & waiter were friendly, helpful & speedy. The room itself is also very nice. Unfortunately, all of our food dishes except the French Onion Soup were sub-par. My wife had the French Onion Soup & while she didn't love it, she did say it was acceptable. I tasted her soup & found it good, although I found the broth to be pretty rich, almost gravy-like. Regardless, the soup did taste pretty good. I had the escargots for my appetizer & they were served lukewarm. Not being hot enough, ruined the dish for me. As well, the bread served at the table, which I used to sop-up the garlic butter, was not very good. A French restaurant needs to have good bread, not cheap commercial bread served with butter packets! Four our main dishes, we both settled on crepes. My wife had the St. Laurent, Le Papillion's "signature" crepe. I had the De La Mer. I did not taste my wife's crepe, but she did not enjoy it. My seafood crepe was, to be honest, not at all good. The crepe itself was overcooked (as was my wife's). The scallops & shrimp in my crepe were the small, salad-sized ones- tasteless & rubbery. The tarragon sauce was very watery making the dish look soupy once I cut into the crepe & all the watery sauce ran out. My wife & I both agree that we would never return to this restaurant.

I came here for brunch on a Saturday, the atmosphere was quite nice and surprisingly not as busy as I thought it would be (which is a good thing, I don't like noisy crowds) Complimentary bread was promptly served to us after we settled in. To start I had french onion soup which was delicious- there was a natural faint honey-like sweetness to the gyuyere chese. There was also cheese nestled at the bottom of the soup as well, and sweet gyuyere was balanced with the flavourful soup. I threw some pieces of the complimentary bread in to soak up the deliciousness. For my main, I ordered quiche and Oeufs Belle-helene (just eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon)(sharing with my friend). The quiche was quite tasty- the crust was thin and flaky, the bacon, cheese and eggs complimented each other nicely, without overpowering one another. The fries that came with the quiche were good considering I usually don't like fries. They were soft and seasoned just right. The salad that accompanies the dish was a bit too wet for my liking. The smoked salmon however, was disappointing. The smoked salmon had a rather strong fishy taste and wasn't fresh. It overpowered the other ingredients of the dish and I wasn't impressed with this item. Overall I would say the food was a 3.5/5, the service was a 4/5 and the atmosphere was a 5/5.

.The food was decent . The ambiance is good but with dim lighting ... My group came for Winterlicious and while we liked what we ate it was not as spectacular as we hoped. The Duck Confit was supposed to have a port wine pomegranate sauce, sadly it was just a port wine sauce with pomegranates sprinkled on it. What myself and my group disliked was the request on the menu for an 18-20% gratuity which is not nice( see pictures posted with my review). We will tip based on the quality of our experience, food and service. Overall its a good place if you want to hang out with friends and just want comfort food then check it out. For those who are particular, there are many other better options at the same price as well as lower .

If you are looking at parking, you might find it easier to locate a Green P parking lot. Service If you read all my notes from above, you would know that my expectations are lowered for both food and service. Much to my surprise the service was actually okay. Our waitress checked in with us after each dish and I was impressed by those who delivered our food. Almost all of them smiled and for a moment there, I felt welcomed. The place offers a casual atmosphere but unfortunately it is not that "french-like". My boyfriend thought it was really missing that special touch. Food I could go into the details of each dish but let me give you the general scoop. Everything was fine, no surprises, no disappointment. For $25 it was worth it, no doubt. The problem is, my boyfriend would not come back. Bread I wish they gave us better butter. There were only 4 slices of bread and thankfully they were easy to chew but...they didn't taste like much. Chicken Pate This is the type of appetizer that you would find at a french restaurant. For those who don't know, you are spreading a layer of chicken liver pate (a mixture of meat that becomes a paste) on the croustini. Filet of salmon (?) I don't remember what it was called but I swear it was stuffed salmon (though the site states otherwise). To begin, the sauce is awesome - in fact, it's the most important thing on this dish. The rice itself has enough flavours but there were a few grains of rice that were not fully cooked. I really liked the shrimps and mushrooms that one can find in the middle of that stuffed salmon - it had more taste than the salmon itself lols. Duck Confit The veggies are the same as the previous but wow, I was impressed by the duck. It was not salty (that's key) and even without the sauce, it could have been fine. It's too bad that the duck portion was small but still satisfying. Cheesecake This is your traditional cheesecake. Not too sweet and not too bland. I don't think this beats Cheesecake Factory in the states but I was glad they didn't screw up. I believe this place could do better. I am almost 90% sure that we didn't order their signature dishes because really they weren't that "French" lols. I'm okay with coming back though my boyfriend disagrees. For a winterlicious menu, this is absolutely worth it. Many restaurants will reduce the portions AND quality. Our waitress was pretty funny, kept asking if we were full. One thing I did not like is how they suggested that the expected gratuity should lie between 18-20% because of their reduced prices. I prefer to make my own judgment on what the service is worth.

If you feel like paying a lot of money to seem super awesome to that date of yours, then go here. But - honestly - the food's not that great, the portions range from small to adequate, and they nickel and dime you for everything. You're trying to be a fancy place? Don't charge people an extra two bucks for maple syrup on their crepe. That's just ridiculous. It's as embarrassing as hotels that charge for WiFi.

One of those places that has survived solely because of its convenient location. I ended up trying this place out because it's close to my condo and one of the few places open for dinner on a Sunday. I wish I hadn't. Service was slooow... It took forever just to order and then they brought our soups first, before realizing they hadn't brought drinks yet. I had the gazpacho andaluz which was actually decent and refreshing. But the chicken crepe was dry and flavourless. The crepe was thick and doughy and definitely not made fresh. My friend's fish did not look all that impressive either. The wait staff speak fluent French, but other than that, I can't think of anything good to say about this place which is best avoided.
