"Opened in 1896, the five-star Méridien Grand Hotel occupies a former two-story farmhouse in the center of Nuremberg. Surrounded by the town’s wide array of restaurants, museums, and shops, it’s also conveniently close to the market and castle. Over the years, the property has hosted everyone from the Dalai Lama to the Beatles in its 192 rooms, which all feature classic design, specially designed (and ultra-comfortable) Méridien beds, elegant marble bathrooms, and contemporary touches like iPod docking stations. Guests can also look forward to a solid brasserie serving regional cuisine, and free entry to the nearby Neues Museum."

My three-night stay at Le Méridien Grand Hotel was exceptional. From the initial reservation confirmation call, the staff displayed professionalism and courtesy. The breakfast buffet was outstanding, offering a wide selection and attentive table service for coffee and drinks. The on-site chef preparing fresh sunny-side-up eggs was a delightful touch. The hotel's grand atmosphere lived up to expectations, and I was thrilled to receive a complimentary upgrade, allowing me to fully appreciate the luxurious details. The staff throughout the hotel were friendly and always offered a warm greeting. I especially appreciated Celina's helpful and enthusiastic assistance in directing me to a nearby post office; she answered my questions with professionalism and patience and sweet smile. The complimentary postcards I received at checkout were a pleasant surprise. I highly recommend Le Méridien Grand Hotel and look forward to returning.

Le Meridien Grand Hotel is less than grand. Their Marriott website oversells this property. Viking Cruises chose this hotel for the extension of their Christmas on the Danube cruise. It is on a busy multi-lane expressway/streetcar hub across from the train station. Walking behind the hotel gets you to a pedestrian mall and eventually to the main city square and the Christmas Market. ||There is one tiny elevator. Slow even by European standards. Wide staircase nearby. Hallways are dimly lit. The buffet breakfast in the bar area has the usual eggs, meat, vegetables, breads and cheeses. The yogurt was especially gritty. However, breakfast came with a selection of dessert squares. Very good.||My room #209 was “refurbished” and was what they charmingly described as a “petit single”. More appropriately, a “dark cell”. When I entered, there was no heat, so I jacked up the radiator and shoved the drapes to the side. It took forever for my little high ceiling square box to warm up. It overlooked that expressway/streetcar hub/railway station and contained two narrow twin beds, three low squatty chairs and a black carpet. This was complemented by black doors, black closets, black desk and black wall panel. Grim. The room had three small lights. Surprisingly there was no sight of their advertised “LM 100 artist Nick Dine” bed or “marble bathroom”!||Thankfully, the bathroom was a blast of white light. But to get there and the entranceway was a step. It had been modified by a piece of wood (black) angled to make a slope so occupants would not trip as many probably had previously. When bags were collected for the ongoing extension to Prague, staff did not see my bag beside room #209 and after luggage ID they had to go back and get it. Told you the place was dark.||This is not a room Le Meridien provides to the list of “international luminaries” they claim stayed at this hotel. Since Viking contracts with Marriott for land accommodation, they should have chosen Marriott’s Sheraton Carlton Hotel on a side street in the same area with bright rooms, responsive elevators plus a ‘wellness area’ and rooftop terrace with great city views. But they did not. Pity.

Overall, a fairly average hotel, with high marks for location, housekeeping. The rooms are modestly sized unless you book a junior suite or larger, and the bathrooms are older, so have tub/shower combos rather than a separate shower. Beds are not particularly comfortable. Controlljng room temp is challenging - it was always hot for us. Rooms facing the train station collect a lot of train noise deep into the evening/night. Breakfast is average. The space is great. The food is just ok, for a Le Meridian. I don’t know, for example, why a restaurant here would serve mixed fruits rather than individual fruits. Our reserved room type was not available on arrival. This took a night to sort out, and was ultimately resolved to our satisfaction, but started us off on the wrong foot. Check your reservation carefully.

The best aspect of this hotel is the location. Right across the street from the train, tram and bus station. Also, just across the street to the right from the old town restaurants and pedestrian shopping areas. It could not have been easier to get around. The hotel is glamorous with marble floors and walls in the public spaces. The bar is comfortable and has a great corner window booth for people watching. The fitness center is adequate and includes large changing rooms, showers and saunas. I worked out twice during my two night stay. The room experience will vary greatly based on what you are assigned. I was traveling with my sister, and we each had a room - paid for with Marriott points. The points were the same for both rooms. One room was large, with a couch, a nice desk and two windows. It also had a great soaking tub (which I used four times in two days!) and a large bathroom. The other room was small, with a tiny shower stall smaller than the one on the riverboat cabin we just experienced. My sister was nice enough to let me have the room with a tub! The breakfast buffet had plenty of options. I particularly enjoyed the fried eggs ready to go - quick and easy and perfectly cooked. The chef was there to cook omelets as well. I have seen more extensive buffets but this was definitely among the top. Fresh squeezed OJ and champagne was a nice touch! The front desk team was helpful and friendly. We appreciated an early check-in opportunity for one of the two rooms, because we were tired and ready to rest before exploring the town. I would definitely stay here again.

Google
Very helpful staff at both the restaurant and the hotel itself. The hotels historic location easily offers walkability to the castle, train station and the city as a whole. When booking your room I would recommend a junior suite at a minimum if you plan to spend time other than sleeping.

My stay at Le Méridien in Nuremberg was an absolute nightmare. Despite informing the hotel of my early departure date both before check-in and at check-in, they still charged me for a night I couldn’t use. The management was completely unhelpful and refused to make any adjustments, even though I am a Marriott Rewards member and a frequent guest when traveling to Germany. The staff and leadership were beyond rude, showing no regard for customer service. The breakfast was atrocious with overcooked food, and the hotel room was extremely worn and outdated. Everything in this hotel is overpriced, and they don’t care about their patrons, only the money they can gouge out of them. While I could overlook some of these issues, the fact that they refused to honor my early departure and forced me to pay an exorbitant room rate for a night I didn’t stay is downright unethical. DO NOT STAY HERE—there are other fine hotels in town which are much more accommodating and go out of their way to ensure you have a pleasant stay. I will be escalating this matter to Marriott and my company’s travel agency. I strongly advise against staying at this hotel. Save yourself the trouble and book elsewhere!

Imagine an old school luxury hotel next to the train station. That is the vibe you get. Rooms a bit dated but all in good working condition. Only complaint was there was no heating - too early in the season, I am guessing. Breakfast was simply excellent for the spread. And you can’t beat the location - in front of the train station and next to the tourist area. Well recommended!

What an amazing hotel! Even from outside before entering everybody can understand that this hotel used to be a landmark for the city. Impressive building and the interior is stunning! Especially the lobby front office area, the breakfast area and the bar. Travel in time. The room was spacious, modern renovated. All the staff was friendly but especially I would like to mention Alexandra from Greece at the front office! She made us feel welcome helped us with some questions we had and gave us few tips about Nürnberg! I absolutely loved the bar at night for drinks. Great atmosphere, music and service. Last but not least the location is unbeatable just across the train station and just in front of the old town. Everything in walking distance!

Yelp
This hotel was very very nice ! The hotel is located in the oldest city in Germany! The hotel staff were very friendly and the room was great! The hotel is right next to so many restaurants they definitely have a good amount of variety. We chilled at the hotel bar and had a few old fashions and relaxed. What a comfortable experience. I loved this hotel !

Yelp
Opulent historic hotel clad in marble and finework. Staff are impeccably trained. The breakfast is exceptional serving local pork cold it's and forcemeat. Not a huge selection but every item served is pristine. The rooms are lavishly appointed and the location opposite the south wall of the old city is ideal. They had deplorably slow WiFi during my visit--1.5mbps. Maddening when I had work video conferences to contend with back home.

Yelp
Nice hotel. Very good breakfast. Well located to walk to the walled part of the city where there's a lot to see & do. Don't let them give you room 127. Lousy AC.

Yelp
Maybe a 3-star hotel. Tiny rooms, loud (here the neighbors), awful bathrooms. Not recommended. LOUD!

Yelp
We've stayed here twice, will never stay again. The first time we stayed here was during the summer and the area surrounding the hotel was so seedy I felt unsafe walking around by myself. It's right across from the Hauptbahnhof, and normally areas right around transit hubs aren't the best, so I wasn't surprised. I didn't plan on staying here again, however my parents were coming in town and wanted to stay here so I booked a room. Now the saga. I realized I had booked the room for the wrong days and went online to correct my reservation. The website said my room was changeable and confirmed the change. A couple days later I needed to change my reservation again, as my parents had given me the wrong dates they would be in town. I went to change my reservation online again and the website said I should already be checked in! What?! I called the hotel immediately to have this rectified and they refused to honor it. They said my room wasn't changeable (which is not what the website said) and they said they had no record of my reservation being changed. I even provided screenshots that the website confirmed my reservation was changed - their response? It was Marriott's website that messed up, so they had no obligation to honor the change. They kept my nearly €300 and forced me to book another room. I didn't want to, but needed to be near my parents so I was stuck. To add insult to injury, when I checked in to the hotel on Yelp a coupon for a free drink at the bar popped up. My group all ate dinner at the bar and we had 3-4 rounds of drinks. When we got the check I showed the coupon and the hotel refused to honor it. The evening manager even came by and said she never heard of Yelp and assumed I was making it up. Cool. Implying I'm a liar over a €10 cocktail - very on brand. Finally, our room was booked as a queen room. Our bed is approximately 4 feet across (i actually measured it because it was so comically small). A European queen is 5'2". So, I'll never come back and cannot recommend enough you stay anywhere else when you're in Nuremberg.

Yelp
They upgraded me due to status, which was nice. They screwed up my benefit a bit, but not a big deal. Furthermore, they have a great breakfast here. The hotel is very old school but still well appointed. The room was huge.

Yelp
VERY disappointed with Le Meridian Nuremberg! We were excited to be staying in an historic hotel in Nuremberg. The hotel was lovely and had that grand hotel feeling that we enjoy. We were exhausted when we arrived late in the evening after a nine hour train ride. We were delighted that we had received an upgrade because of our Marriott statis. We are retired and travel about 120 days a year. This year we switched over to Marriott from a competitor because of the reputation of the rewards system and should be at the Ambassador level by the end of the year. When we opened the door to the guestroom it smelled like mold. We were so tired that we thought it wouldn't be that bad. After not being able to sleep at all because of the smell I finally got up and went down to the front desk at 2:00am to see if we could switch rooms. The young lady at the desk was very nice, but she didn't get that we needed sleep and we paid for a room that didn't smell terrible. She came up to the room to smell the mold. She said it was not good. But the hotel was full and she said there was nothing she could do. I asked her to let her manager know about the situation three times during our conversation. I got about two hours of sleep because the smell was so bad. We both had very bad headaches when we got up and no we didn't drink anything the night before. I went down to the front desk and asked for the manager. He was very nice but he knew nothing about the situation. I explained everything to him, and he got us a new room within an hour. Later we found out the air-conditioning barely worked compared to the first night's room. We didn't bother letting them know about that situation because all we wanted to do was leave. I had to ask him if there would be any compensation for the horrible first night. He said he needed to check. Clearly this is a franchise that does not trust it's management to make decisions. He called us back after about two hours and offered us a bottle of champagne. I'm not happy with the 'compensation' that was offered, but we decided we were done complaining and simply will stay somewhere else when we return in six months for a two week stay. Very disappointing property. DO NOT STAY HERE!

Yelp
Hotel is cold, old, dingy, and dark. We stayed there only one, thank god! One of the two rooms we reserved had no heat and the temp outside was 18 degrees. Then they moved us to our rooms after waiting 6 plus hours in a freezing salon off the main area. The bed was hard and bedding was a thin comforter. The bathroom has a combo shower/bath in which you must climb a good 2.5 ft into a slippery tub. The rooms decor is sparse and cold. There is no service, no bell service and the elevator is awkward and heavy. No one escorted us through the maze to our rooms. The level of service was unacceptable. Horrible!

Yelp
Like most Meridien's I've stayed at they have been quite nice, and this particular hotel was no exception. Very inviting aesthetics both inside and out, very gothic feeling. Reception staff was very welcoming and answered all the silly tourist questions I had for them. In terms of proximity to the center of the town, I felt like it was a very comfortable walk, around 10 minutes max. Lots and lots of food options nearby, as well as markets (Yay for Aldi's). The breakfast buffet was great, they really went above and beyond to fit everyone's needs, whether allergy requirements, light or heavy protein, etc. Love the big buffet choice personally due to my trick of stuffing myself early in the morning so I do not need to eat lunch and only worry about a late snack or early dinner after touring around. The room was very nice, clean, not too small, necessary electronics, comfortable bed, and nice bathroom. Room service never came, but I remember some mention of a "green" ordeal for reduced nightly rates, but do not quote me on that. Honestly one of the better hotels I had stayed at during my Germany tour. I would not even hesitate re booking this affordable hotel (Off season) if re visiting the beautiful town of Nurnberg.

Chris B.

Yelp
Breakfast selection not nearly as good as it used to be. WiFi only works in one corner of my room. SPG membership was not on the reservation therefor was not eligible for upgrades or free breakfast first two days, this is despite making the reservation in the SPG app that also has my membership number. Construction noise and lots of hammering in the morning, key card reader for room barely works after 20 tries, windows in room don't close properly so the city view becomes more of an ambulance alarm clock. The quality of this hotel has taken a serious nose dive over the many years I've frequented it.

Yelp
Business or Leisure Traveler BE WARE!!!! I have traveled the world for the last 20+ years on business (40+ years on leisure) and been loyal to Marriott and Starwood properties. Originally, I was excited about staying at what likely is one of the nicest hotels in Nurnberg. The location of the hotel is great, with easy access to the main train station and lots of restaurants, bars, and shopping within walking distance. And the staff, for the most part, are awesome. The front desk was generally very helpful daily with making reservations for dinner, printing things out, etc. The bar staff was outstanding, they would remember my order from the day before and offer my favorite drink when they saw me. So, you read these positive things and wonder why I have rated this hotel - a paltry 1 star??? My issue comes with complete lack of respect for the customer by the In-House Reservations Team, Hotel Duty Manager, and ultimately the Hotel General Manager. The back story is that I booked my reservation for a week-long stay. However, as the week progressed my travel plans changed and I needed to reduce my stay by one day. For the first time in hundreds (if not thousands) of nights booked and over twenty years of travel, I was told I could not shorten my stay without penalty. I would've understood if I had a prepaid room for the week or there was explicit language in my reservation that said a cancellation fee WOULD apply. So, after contacting the front desk, the in-house reservations, and the on-shift duty manager, they all said no to waiving the penalty because this is the "Hotel's Policy". I even tried central reservation, in hopes that a high-status loyal customer might get some leniency, they were unable to help. So, in a final plea for help, I asked to speak to the General Manager, a Mr. Juergen Sziegoleit, expecting him to value a long-time loyal customer. Here is where this hotel earned its 1-star rating! Mr. Sziegoleit had no appreciation or sympathy for the situation. I asked Mr. Sziegoleit to show me the terms which tied his hands and he pointed me to the language in my reservation around "Modification and Cancelation". They read as follows: "... Any modification to a reservation is subject to the hotel's availability at the time the modification is requested and may change the rate and/or require payment of cancellation fees..." The language clearly says the hotel "...MAY change the rate and/or require payment of cancellation fees..." This clearly leaves it at the discretion of the hotel and could allow for a shortening of stay without penalty. The General Manager agreed that the language would allow him to cancel my last day without penalty, but he said he would not. Furthermore, after stating that I was a customer of the hotel chain for the last 17 years and would likely never stay at his property or another Starwood, he still would not change his mind. To think that ten's of thousands of dollars spent over 17 years is completely unappreciated over a $200+ night just appalls me. What is worse, is the poor attitude of the General Manager and his complete unwillingness to help a customer with a reasonable request. Because of this singular experience, I will likely never stay at this property or any other Starwood Property again. With this review, I hope for two things (1) I can spare other travelers from the same experience, and (2) an executive in the Starwood Hotel chain sees this review and takes corrective action so that other travelers do not experience such poor customer service.

Marcie G.

Yelp
The hotel is at a perfect spot near everything you want to see in the historical city of Nuremberg. So much is walking distance or you can easy take the tram. Amazing,..

Ron J.

Yelp
The day staff is better than the night staff. We asked for their help in getting a pizza delivered. Their response is...."we don't speak English", guess what stupid....Ich spreche Deutsch and have for 25 years plus. Why can't you be of more service to me when I KNOW learning English in the school is mandatory. I give you a 5 for location, 4 for the day service and a 1 for the night service. How do you run a successful hotel when the guest knows more MAJOR languages than the staff?

David R.

Yelp
I hate to be the guy with the pin in the balloon factory, but I thought that this hotel is highly over-rated. The location is fine if you are taking the train, as it's just across the street from the train station and is really across the street from the historic old city, which is still surounded by the original walls. The city is absolutely worth a visit, but this review isn't about that. We drove down from Munich after an over-night in Austria and were looking forward to a long soak in their spa. We had a booked a "Junior Suite" for a two night stay during a road trip through Bavaria. Guess what? No spa. There was nothing sweet about our "Suite" either. How do you define "suite," anyway? Doesn't a "suite" usually have a seating area separate from the bedroom? Not here, it doesn't. We basically had a smallish room with a high ceiling, a small bathroom, no iron or ironing board in the room, drapes that didn't close completely so the room was not completely dark at night (don'tcha really hate that?), and worse - no in-room coffee!! So if you want coffee in the morning, yoou have to call room service and they'll send up a guy with a pot and charge you E6 for the brew and E4 for the delivery. So that's like $16 for two cups of not-very-good joe. After remonstrating with front desk, they deducted the coffee both mornings. Thanks, guys. The good: the front desk personnel were really excellent, responsive, and helpful. So thumbs up there. The included breakfast was self-serve, but multiple and excellent choices, with the exception of the young lady who was presiding over the fresh egg station. Nil English; but worse, couldn't flip an egg without breaking the yolks. Also, they handle food without wearing any gloves for health reasons. Nice to know they think their hands are clean, but when you see a guy arranging cheese slices on a plate using his bare hands - not a predictor of food-prep sanitation. I found this issue to be the same wherever I was in Germany - bare-hands on your food all the time. Yech! The bad: see comments in preceding paragraph about food sanitation and egg-flipping and below about the burger. The ugly: the room decor. Hard-edged, cold, neo-modern, no gemutlichkeit whatsover! The desk space is very limited, although there is plenty of room for a bigger desk. (Getting close to the end...) I have learned first-hand what it means to live under a nanny government. Our last night at the hotel, after returning from the Nuremberg Opera (Die Walkurie in an ass-kickin' production), we had a jones for a burger. But it was late and raining (as usual), so we decided to follow the recommendation of the front desk and eat in the pub. Couldn't get a medium rare burger no way. The EU specifies that a hamburger cannot be served unless it has had all the flavor and moisture burned out of it (kinda sounds like Minnesota, hey?) Also, their meat is quite different from ours, so don't expect anything remotely edible in the burger line.) We did like our waitress, though. Spunky, bright, spent time in Australia, wants to visit NY soon. All in all, not a big improvement over a Holiday Inn Suite. It was very different the next night at the Meridien in Stuttgart, though! (See that review coming up.) Oh yeah, one last thing - all the hotels we stayed at in both Germany and Austria have a king bed but with two separate duvets - one for each occupant. Not really posssible to get skin-on-skin easily. Maybe that accounts for their low birth-rate? Just saying...

Bill L.

Yelp
The Grand is not "so grand" but it's a reasonable hotel in the heart of the Nuremberg old town. Breakfast is quite nice but also quite expensive at 27 euros day. The gym is only ok but at least they have one. Two each of bike, treadmill and elliptical. They have a dumbbell stack to 20Kg and a universal machine. Limited but it's there. The location is fantastic int hat it is right across from the Hauptbahnhof, the main train station. The old town starts right across the street so 5 stars on convenience. Rooms are small but standard size in Germany and the staff are all friendly.

Steven M.

Yelp
Definitely one of my favorite hotels in Nuremberg... With a rich history! Apparently Adolf Hitler led Nazis into battle and set forth his evil plan to exterminate Jews while staying at this very hotel (pre Starwood era) but luckily now the most horrific aspect of this establishment is the abundance of sausages available in the breakfast buffet.

Andrew T.

Yelp
I cannot believe it, but I really like this hotel. And...quiet about it...because it's a Starwood. I ended up booking this because I've managed to build up a decent run of Starwood points this year, and since you can cash them in pretty easily for miles on a ton of airlines, I might as well keep earning. This hotel was pretty reasonably priced, in a good location, so I jumped on it. Turns out, this place was great. The building itself is very cool, art deco style with lots of wood and marble. Very helpful front desk staff, good with restaurant recommendations and other little things. The rooms are spacious and comfortable (and not worn out like every US Starwood I visit) with nice bed and duvets (still no fitted sheets, so it goes on the list, but it wasn't a factor as the beds stayed very neat even though I was declining maid service), plus a decent workspace. My bathroom had punishing water pressure (I think it called me "worm" one of the mornings) that was really nice for waking up given that I wasn't getting a ton of sleep during this trip. And finally, the breakfast spread was very nice, and was included in my already reasonable rate, no need to be Starwood Gold or Platinum or whatever to get access. The property is very near the main train station, and across the street from the old city, so it's very easy to find restaurants and do a little sightseeing with just a couple minutes walk. So...I finally found a Starwood property I would purposefully book again. Unfortunately, it's 4200 miles from home. Oh well.

Margaret E.

Yelp
The hotel is beautiful and in an excellent location. We received an upgrade to a suite, which had a nice layout. However the WiFi was very poor in the room and the small heaters did not heat the room adequately. Had to request additional blankets and a space heater. Very friendly and responsive housekeeper and front desk staff. The hassles made our stay frustrating and overall don't think this hotel deserves the high cost per night.

Erin Z.

Yelp
Nice hotel. Bar does not accept the two free cocktails upon checking in on yelp.. Bummer

Kirk M.

Yelp
We liked the hotel until they moved us to a room above their bar. Knowing they had private parties scheduled! We paid for six nights here. Last night the music and drunks bellow us went on until almost 4:00 am in the morning. Now tonight we called the front desk and complained at 11:00 pm. They just said 'yes we have private parties scheduled' the music should stop at 12:00. And asked us at 11:00 O'clock at night if they could move us to another room? (We are and have Been in bed!) We are not packing up and dressing at past 11:00 pm to move! Plus we leave tomorrow... after six days as paying customers.. this was a business trip so our company will here about this, and most likely scratch Le Meridian Grand off their list of good places to stay while in Nuremberg. They should have told us about the scheduled loud all hours of the night music and drinks yelling.. before renting us this room! NOT HAPPY at this hotel!!!

Geert B.

Yelp
This is a rather posh place in the classy American tradition (it belongs to the spg group) right across from the station. The interior is completely art deco. I found the restaurant a bit over the top, but the bar is very cosy, with beautiful wood paneling that is repeated as a theme all through the hotel. My room was very spacy with a very large bed (I was on the executive floor, so that may make a difference). Its location is at the same time an advantage and a disadvantage: it is at a very busy crossing, but you don't hear that inside. It is also walking distance to the town centre and the Modernes Museum is just around the corner. Pricy. Excellent service.

R M.

Yelp
I loved my stay and want to go back to Nuremberg just to stay at this hotel. Because I could not handle the cold weather (I am a California Girl), I spent a great deal of time indoors at the hotel. I didn't mind a bit. The Hotel is beautifully restored to its Art Deco splendor. It is historic but not shabby. It has some very modern appointments (like the rooms) and services. I loved the bathrooms with the deep tubs and pretty pink tile. The service was perfect. The staff is friendly and attentive without being obsequious. They provided that seamless old world hospitality, friendly but not intrusive. The food was great. The breakfast was amazing. I only wish I could have eaten everything. I spent most of my evenings in the Bar where the staff was always friendly. I loved their fresh cocktails and lighter bar food. I only wished I had the recipe for their tasty Cherry Fizz Cocktail, yum. The hotel is also in a convenient location. It is on the edge of the Old Town and across from the Train station. However, it is not noisy. The only negative was that the Hotel charges for WiFi. No one charges for Wifi. That was a little weird, but until I find a place I like as much, I guess I will live with it.

Yelp
This is my first review on Yelp. We live in the USA and our daughter lives in Germany. We visit her several times a year and stay in the Le Meridien Grand Hotel in Nurnberg. We have stayed here four or five times. The hotel is nothing special, but has always been adequate. However, this trip has been a nightmare. There is construction going on next to our room. Very loud heavy tools running yesterday and we were woken by the same noise this morning (Saturday), at 7:00 AM. Now, Saturday night (or rather Sunday morning), there is extremely loud music shaking the entire building. We are on the fourth floor and it is still VERY loud. I called the front desk and the person who answered said she was very sorry, but the music would be going on until 3:00AM. WE WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN! HORRIBLE!!
