Le Louxor

Cute cinema, nice staff and a rooftop bar. What else could you want? Metro bridge/stop across the street was quite restless, but that is obviously no fault of the theatre.

So beautiful cinema in Paris. However not so many people go.

Best cinema in Paris, change my mind. Bar at the top sits there just like a cherry.

Although I've been before, I loved the special showing of Breakfast at Tiffany's. A full house, very well done by the team at the cinema! Can't wait to go back!

Cute cinema. Could use a make over + update, but a good activity on your last day in Paris or during rainy weather. Location outside doesn't feel safe. Not even during the day.

The cinema is beautiful but it's seating is really stupid. Good programming but terrible conditions to watch the film.

Built in 1921, the Louxor cinema boasts distinctive neo-Ancient Egyptian architecture. A listed historical building, it closed in 1988. After having been threatened with demolition, it was renovated and reopened to the public on 17 April 2013. Situated in the 18th arrondissement, in the La Chapelle district, the Louxor screens recent films as well as great cinema classics.

What a gorgeous movie theater! And as the name evokes, the Egyptian inspired decoration adds a unique atmosphere to the venue. At first thought, Hollywood's legendary Egyptian Theater came to mind, and Le Louxor already has a cult status among cinephiles. The atmosphere lends itself to the many art house, indie as well as restored classics that are screened here, as well as the latest releases.

Great variety from north American theatres. Theatre had 2 balconies. Great viewing experience. I miss Paris.....

Louxor is one of a dwindling number of independent cinemas in Paris. Now about 20. Louxor's program is mostly world cinema. There are special series of classics, openings of new films with the director present, animated films on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Special programs for young people. Even Tango lessons. Louxor was built in the 20s for silent films in the neo-Egyptian style. Some of this flair remains outside and in the large salle even after its relatively recent rebirth and refurbishment by the city of Paris. There is a tiny very cozy café whose balcony looks out on the quite beautiful Barbès elevated metro station with the Tati clothing store looming above it. Buy a pass for just over 50 Euros for 10 entrances. I live just up the street and go often. After the film find a simple Algerian restaurant in the neighborhood. Avoid the Brasserie Barbès. Visit and support all the independents in Paris!
