On the Grid : Le Chef

"One of our favorite go-to places for lunch, Le Chef has been around forever. They serve home-made dishes and specialize in Lebanese home cuisine, serving several daily dishes from stews to soups. Ask for the 'Mloukhieh', 'Fasoulia', 'Sayadieh' or 'Sheikh el Mehshe'. You won't miss Charbel, who will always remember how you take your dish after only the first visit." - Studio Safar

Tony went back to Le Chef, where he ate on his last visit (when Beirut was bombed). They had hummus with pine nuts and ground beef, eggplant with tomatoes, chickpeas, and onions.

I go here when I am sad, when I want to show people real lebanese cooking, and when I am happy. Fast, good and cheap. Is it the most elegant and highest form of lebanese food? No. Do I want that when I come here? Absolutely not, I want someone to scream Welcome at me and have good service and some home food. Order off the specials menu and the hummus is really good

Best food I’ve had in Beirut! The hummus with lahme was like no other, and the fasolia with meat was simple yet perfectly done. The fried chicken was my least favorite dish, as it was a bit dry and lacked flavor. We ended lunch with crème caramel, which was delicious! Overall, a great experience. The staff were friendly and warmly greeted everyone who came in. A staff member also mentioned that Russell Crowe donated to help renovate this place after Marfaa Beirut explosion. I found it really bizarre in the best way like how small the world can be, and how he came to know about this place But I’m glad he did, such a thoughtful gesture and a great story.

Without a doubt the best food I had in Beirut!!! If your looking for amazing authentic lebanese food you must come here. Lots of vegan options too, and the host Charbel is so welcoming. Make sure you eat here!!!!

Brilliant experience, I was food foraging for local eateries in Beirut and I found this place. Food taste is from Heavens. I tried the okra and the cauliflower dishes, and they were splendid. The owner is friendly and took the time to describe to me the menu items. If you are looking for a portion of the spectrum of Lebanese cuisine, this place is good for you. Lebanese cuisine is very rich and diverse and it needs several restaurants to cover it.

A very interesting old school establishment which serves good food. It opens at 8am in the morning and we went there we were told they only serve the lighter dishes for breakfast and the rest for lunch. So with the help of my driver we ordered a few local dishes to try. I might have forgotten some of the names of the dishes but have to say it was a hearty breakfast and I loved all the dishes. I remembered the 2 fried eggs, labneh, hummus with minced meat and the stuff vine leaves in oil. The food were very well executed and felt like eating some home cooked food like you were invited to the house of a local Lebanese. A truly authentic experience to try. Food was good and the bill was reasonable. Recommended.
