The 2025 MICHELIN Key Hotels: A Guide to the Global Selection

"Machu Picchu has its own Key hotels, but the country's first Three Key is an awe-inspiring 20-acre estate in the Colca Valley. Las Casitas makes this a must-visit destination, a more under-the-radar way to discover the Andes that's by no stretch any less unforgettable." - The MICHELIN Guide

"While Belmond Las Casitas spares nothing in the way of comfort and luxury, it takes great care to ensure that the 20 casitas that dot the side of Colca Canyon don’t distract from the beauty of the surrounding area. Each of the 1,300-square-foot rooms features a fireplace for chilly nights (as well as a hot-water bottle tucked into your bed at turndown), a heated outdoor plunge pool on the terrace (perfect for star-gazing), and a marble bathroom with both an indoor and outdoor shower. There’s also an excellent restaurant on-site, where guests can enjoy inspired Andean cuisine made with ingredients from the resort’s own garden, as well as a bar serving salads and other light dishes. Activities include fishing for dinner in the hotel trout pond, touring the canyon on horseback, bottle-feeding the baby alpacas, walking the trails that crisscross the 59-acre property, or simply keeping an eye out for the area’s giant hummingbirds and Andean condors that float on the thermals."

Las Casitas, A Belmond Hotel (Arequipa, Peru) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"In South America, there’s no contradiction between high adventure and high luxury. Even so, few hotels are up to the standard of Belmond Las Casitas. The location would be impossible to find fault with — the Colca Valley is one of Peru’s natural wonders, a region high in the Andes that’s home to everything from bucolic farmland to active volcanoes and a canyon that’s grander than the Grand. And the hotel is no slouch either: this estate spans twenty acres, one for each of its casitas, resulting in a small-villa luxury experience that would be difficult to top." - Tablet Hotels

I need to review this hotel because I think I left a piece of my soul there. Belmond Las Casitas in Peru’s Colca Valley isn’t just a hotel—it’s a whole experience, a slightly magical, slightly surreal, entirely addictive one. Honestly, I’m not convinced I didn’t dream the whole thing.|Picture this: 59 acres (yes, a small kingdom) of lush gardens, misty mountains, and utter silence except for the occasional alpaca casually living its best life. Instead of regular rooms, you get your own casita—a huge, cosy cottage with a fireplace, a giant bathroom, an outdoor shower, and a heated plunge pool that whispers “cancel all responsibilities.”|The staff here? Angels. Actual angels. They tuck hot water bottles into your bed at turndown and leave Belmond treats like you’re some sort of adored aristocrat. Breakfast? Phenomenal. Evening snacks? Delicious. The full restaurant menu looked fantastic too, but honestly, I was far too busy floating through my private-resort fantasy to choose anything else. There’s also a spa, which I tragically didn’t have time to use because I was too busy being obsessed with the pool area overlooking the valley.|Now for the twist:|We were the only two guests in the entire place. Twenty casitas, 59 acres, countless llamas—and just us. It felt like we accidentally rented the whole resort for ourselves without knowing. Imagine an entire team of lovely humans focused solely on keeping you fed, hydrated, relaxed, and emotionally supported. Chef’s-kiss perfection.|And the setting? You’re tucked into the Colca Valley’s emerald folds, a short wander from ancient cliffside colcas and a quick drive to the canyon where condors drift overhead like they own the sky.|Belmond Las Casitas is part luxury hideaway, part Andean fairytale, part “is this real life?”—and now officially my favourite place I’ve ever stayed.|10/10 would absolutely get “accidentally alone” in a luxury canyon resort again.|Also, if anyone knows how to smuggle a baby alpaca in a suitcase… I’m asking for a friend. 🦙

I highly recommend Las Casitas, the location is fabulous, the cottages are superb and the staff were lovely. We especially enjoyed our breakfast in Tapai and seeing the condors. Only wish we could have stayed longer to make the most of all the activities on offer.

Great property, amazing location and service is very very good. Rather small so makes all very friendly. Villas and rooms are big and very comfortable. The property located in one of the best places near Colca Canyon and you can’t get enough of the view. Don’t go there - run!

The best place to explore the Colca Canyon, created with great care and focused on guest satisfaction. Very comfortable rooms provide privacy. Excellent cuisine.||My only critical remark: the hotel is part of the Belmond group, and any attempt to arrange airport transfers or on-site activities is handled through the central office. In my case, it took six months to finalize a simple program, because every time a new person picked up the conversation and we had to start all over again. On top of that, those staff members at the head office were unfamiliar with local conditions.||My recommendations for visitors:||Be sure to order breakfast at the Tapay viewpoint.||Don’t limit yourself to watching condors — visit the villages in the canyon and try kayaking on the river next to the hot springs.||To have more space, plan your trip for a time when the weekly Belmond train guests are not arriving.||I especially recommend the guide Yanira.

This was my favorite hotel of the trip. I wish we had stayed more days to really get to soak in how wonderful it is. The casitas are gorgeous and our hot tub felt perfect. The food in the restaurant was also great, as were our cocktails. Feeding Wira was so much fun.

I came with my daughter (13 yo) on a dad-daughter trip. It was fantastic. |Las Casitas is a very cozy hotel with multiple rooms (very spacious and comfortable) and the SERVICE LEVEL is just AMAZING. I stayed 4 nights. I travel extensively around the world. I dont view Casitas as a hotel- its more of a retreat, where you can reenergize, meditate, relax.. while staying in a Belmond a hotel. |Food quality is great. Service level, as i said, amazing. One of the best luxury experiences in had in the Americas or Europe while traveling. |Activities: plenty to do in the Colca Valley. |1. See the Condor fly (remember Condor is the largest flying bird) |2. Go mountain hiking (beware of the altitude, so be acclimatized before you do that)|3. Horse back riding (the views from Achomani are just stunning)|4. Ziplining|5. White-water rafting|6. YES! Spa. There is a great spa at Las Casitas!!!

We had a wonderful time at this place.|Room was beautifully decorated with a private heated plunge pool, which we used to relax in.|We fed the baby Alpacas, saw the horse show ( 5 mins), fed the fish and relaxed by the fire with a hot chocolate while listening to some local tales. All of this was included in the room rate.|Then had a wonderful dinner and probably the best dinner we had in Perru on our travels and slept well.|Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choices.|As expected at this level of hotel, service was exemplary and as mentioned the only downside was that we could only stay one night due to our itinerary.
