Finally made it to La Rose Patisserie, a long drive from downtown, but I had an appointment in the area so made a point to stop by. The bakery items are truly beautiful, each a piece of art that tastes as good as it looks! I purchased a variety to try, justifying the indulgence based on the drive to get there!
Fortunately there was no line at all on a rainy Wednesday at 4pm. As others have said, the bakery is located in a small strip mall that shares a parking lot with an apartment complex. The shop is a working bakery with a tiny area up front to make counter purchases. Their plans to expand to NE Portland have been out in hold due to Covid-19, unfortunately.
The vibrantly colored macaroons catch your eye but at $2.80 per cookie, I could only justify buying three. Tiffany Blue is my favorite color and vanilla my favorite flavor, so this was a no brainer. It was exquisite. Rich in flavor without overwhelming. The perfect three bites and I will get it again. Also bought the salted caramel and dark chocolate, both amazing, with deep flavors, the perfect crunch and super creamy filling. Definitely some of the best macaron and I have had and I've them many times in France.
They had three different slices of their famous crepe cake; rainbow, matcha and tiramisu, and I chose the tiramisu. Lovely! Light, thin layers of crepes layered with lightly sweetened creme was visually stunning and the perfect balance of textures and flavors. Amazing.
The almond croissant was flaky, the almond paste flavorful, and the exterior covered with lots of sliced almonds. My favorite is still the almond croissant from Bakeshop, but this is a contender! Which is saying a lot as Kim Boyce is legendary.
The Japanese milk bread looks like a slice of a big, white, puffy cloud, I had to try it! Honestly, it's challenging for me to describe as I've never had anything like this and can't even fathom the genesis of this creation. Super soft, light, airy, fluffy bread layered with the lightest, fluffiest, slightly sweetened cream cheese dusted with powdered sugar is a unique taste sensation. At first I couldn't decide if I liked it, but soon devoured the entire piece - in my car! Lesson learned, the powdered sugar gets everywhere!
There are a few tables outside on the tiny patio. Next time, and there will be a next time, I will order the the Japanese pancakes to eat there, fresh and hot. Rarely do I eat pancakes because I find them too heavy and too sweet. My preference is for desserts with a hint of sweetness so La Rose Patisserie hits this mark.
If you are in the Beaverton or Tanasbourne area, put the address in your GPS app and follow the directions to La Rose Patisserie for some fabulous treats.
