"Occupying a lively corner on the calle M. García Vigil, La Popular is, as its name suggests, quite popular. Frequented by locals and tourists alike, “La Popu,” with its ever-changing art displays, offers a fun and casual environment for an easy meal, a chela, and a tasty house mezcal.  The mezcal is sourced locally and includes some nice picks from Miahuatlán (Cuixe, Tepextate, Mexicano). Another reason for a mezcalito here is what’s just across the street: the consistently delicious street food stand Empanadas Nocturnas del Carmen, which serves late-night empanadas de amarillo and memelas de queso." - Niki Nakazawa

We've eaten in both of their locations, which were packed each time - hence the name? Delicious! Several vegetarian options. The garlic mushroom dish was incredible. Shrimp tlayuda was HUGE (it was my first one, I didn't know how big they are) and covered in chunks of shrimp, yum! The pumpkin flower tacos were scrumptious as were the shrimp ones. Definitely a place worth repeating.

La Popular is a cozy yet trendy restaurant. The service is great, and the authentic food is absolutely delicious! Plus, my dietary needs (celiac disease) were eagerly accommodated.

I loved it here! Never had to wait for a table, service was quick and easy. Food was super good. I always think it’s a sign of a good place when they put loads of toppings on the table. I went twice in two days, first I had the mushroom quesadillas which don’t look much but are really tasty with all the extras. Next day I had the vegetarian tlayuda which was amazing! So reasonably priced too. This place is what I expected of Mexico!

Food was bad. Tacos. Wow. My dog could make better tacos. Service didn’t even get us sufficient cutlery or tell us why they put two separate dishes on a single plate or tell us which ones are what. Atmosphere is loud. Tourist. Trap. Do not go. Oaxaca has way better options. This one is just an insult to the people of Oaxaca. L

I popped in very hungry and tired after a long day hiking. I wanted to try the sopa de guías, it is seasonal soup, and it is the time for it. It was so delicious, it's from seasonal vegetables, so delicious. I asked a young waitress what sauce I have to put with it. She explained everything to me. I also got a tortilla made from maize negro and meat and local cheese on top of it. I had agua de frutas Jamaica which is made from hibiscus . The restaurant has a good vibe, very nice food and the service was fantastic. Highly recommended.

Been meaning to go here for a long time and I'm glad i finally did. The food was very tasty and enjoyable. Portions sizes were good and prices were great! We had "Sopa de Guias" which was flavorful and came with a tostada with Queso Fresco and a piece of Tasajo. Very good. We also had the "Berenjenas a la Plancha" which had a nice tapenade on top and a side of Guacamole with chips. The eggplant was a little bitter but otherwise good. Finally we had "Tortas con Chorizo" Also tasty. Definitely will be returning for more.
