It’s been 3 weeks since my visit to CHOUQUETTE for the afternoon tea, and I CANNOT STOP THINKING ABOUT IT!! Short version: Delicious, delectable, not one item on the docket that wasn’t tasty and delicious <3 I am still dreaming about their crab quiche, mini po-boy, the pecan scone!
Now, a deep dive: my boyfriend set up this outing for my birthday, and I couldn’t have been happier. It was 60$ per person, totaling at 120$ together. Now, you pay that ahead of time as a reservation, but their is expected tip after the experience, so prepare by either bringing cash or you must buy another item while there and tip on that purchase. Which wasn’t a huge deal for me because after tasting the delicious food here I was already preparing to take home another item or two to enjoy the next day :)
We had two teas here: a spicy, warm, deep earl grey that was perfect with or without cream or sugar. At first, I added both to my drink but by the end of the teapot I was drinking it as is. The second tea was a mango elderflower (green?) tea I believe, and man, that was the JUICIEST sweetest tea I’ve ever had! Again, no need for extra sugar and wasn’t the type of tea to add crème to really. Both have me wondering where they source their tea, and I have been on a search for similar to have at home!
The savories: honestly, I was surprised at how much I loved the savory part of the meal. It included 4 savories, a mini muffelata, a spiced (not hot spicy just super flavorful!) crab quiche, a mini lox crème cheese bagel (on mini croissant rather than bagel), and a mini po-boy. I am still dreaming about all of them, and have now made the muffelata and lox croissant at home (the closest I can get at least!).
The second tier which was sweets: 4 sweet treats, the strawberry parfait was super juicy and bursting with flavor, the bread pudding had a wonderful rum sauce on top, and the chefs choice which was some sort of lavender and pistachio inspired mini loaf were all delightful, but the blackberry tarte was my surprise shining star of this tier! I am usually not a blackberry fan but man this was amazing!
Our 3rd tier featured our last two treats: a strawberry matcha macaron with white chocolate, and a pecan scone with a praline butter. The scone was perfect, crusty but soft and not unmoist in the slightest, the butter adding an excellent creamy taste. The macaron was quite sweet, and I would never say that it wasn’t flavorful or delicious, but I think at this point I was beginning to be sugared out.
Which also brings up the point that if you were unaware, you get boxes to bring whatever you don’t eat home!! Omg I felt so foolish, I thought you had to eat it all or leave it there so my boyfriend and I were trying to power through 😭
Overall, the afternoon tea experience at CHOUQUETTE was my first afternoon tea experience anywhere, and has now set an extremely high bar for any other afternoon tea we decide to try, thank you CHOUQUETTE and Chef Simone for making my 27th birthday magical!!
