"The back room at La Descarga might be one of the best cigar scenes in the city, with a fantastic selection of rare rums and spirits to go with the solid lineup of cigars. Just poke into the far room after entering through the mezzanine closet door, a spectacle in itself. Unfortunately, the cigar selection is pretty limited, though what they offer tends to be very high quality. Folks are welcome to bring cigars here as well." - Matthew Kang

"At this Cuban rum bar, you walk through a fake closet into a cool, bi-level speakeasy. Even if you wouldn't normally order it, rum is the best choice here as they have many small-batch, esoteric varities, which are great on their own or mixed into one of the very well-made cocktails (complete with hand-carved ice). Be warned that this is one of the few places in LA that's still cigar-friendly. There's great music that you'll want to move to, including salsa and live jazz."

La Descarga is a hidden treasure that offers one of the most authentic and immersive speakeasy experiences in Los Angeles. From the moment you step through the discreet entrance, you’re transported to a bygone era of charm, sophistication, and excitement. The venue’s ambiance is exquisite, reminiscent of Havana nights with its vintage decor, dim lighting, and a lively, welcoming atmosphere. The Cuban music is a standout feature, with live performances on weekends that are nothing short of electrifying. The musicians capture the heart and soul of Cuban rhythms, creating a vibe that’s impossible not to dance along to. And speaking of dancing, La Descarga takes it a step further with their breathtaking dance show. The performers exude passion and energy, seamlessly blending traditional Cuban styles with a touch of theatrical flair. It’s a captivating experience that makes the night feel truly special. The process to get in is straightforward and reasonable, adding to the speakeasy mystique without being overly exclusive. Once inside, the exceptional service and expertly crafted cocktails make it well worth the visit. Each drink feels like a journey through time, perfectly complementing the enchanting surroundings. La Descarga is not just a bar; it’s an experience. Whether you’re looking for a unique date night, a celebration, or simply a memorable evening, this venue delivers in every way. Highly recommended for anyone who loves music, dance, and a touch of adventure!

Nice but small space. Main space was very small crowded couldn’t dance. Hard to see burlesque on top balcony and only one came out briefly. One bartender did good for being solo. The cigar lounge was bigger with another bar but Smokey lol. No food service.

I go on Tuesday, salsa night. The instructor is top notch, class starts at 8:30 pm,don't be late. The bartenders are impeccable, amazing to watch them work and the drinks are fantastic. You can reserve a table, but not absolutely necessary. There are a couple of burlesque shows starting at 10pm. The dancers are amazing. One room has live music, the other room allows smoking. I always have a drink and a cigar there. I highly recommend checking this place out. They have valet for 20 bucks or you can look for street parking.

Unfortunately, my night here was ruined before it even began, thanks to an extremely rude and disrespectful bouncer named Christian. From the moment we arrived, he seemed more interested in asserting authority than providing any form of hospitality or basic respect. Rather than greeting guests or handling the line with professionalism, Christian spoke down to people, made unnecessary comments, and came across as aggressively confrontational. It was clear that several other patrons were also uncomfortable with his attitude. A good venue should start with a welcoming door, and in this case, Christian set a hostile tone that overshadowed anything the bar itself might have offered. Management should seriously reconsider who they put at the front line of their business. There are plenty of great bars in the area—ones that don’t make you feel disrespected before you even walk in the door.

Avoid This Organizer’s Events – Disrespectful and Unprofessional I usually don’t write negative reviews, but after being treated with little to no respect on two separate occasions by Jose, I feel compelled to share my experience to warn others. On a Tuesday Salsa Night at La Descarga, by 10:45pm the salsa music stopped in the larger room and reggaeton/club music started playing. Several people were asking one another about the music choice at it was very clear that most people there still wanted to listen and dance to salsa music. When i approached this man to ask about the DJ, he started to curse at me by saying “F the DJ and immediately started to talk bad about the DJ”. I was puzzled why he would even say those things so i walked off. When i was leaving for the night, i genuinely went up to him and asked him if every tuesday night is like that in terms of music choice, and he immediately responded by saying “you have a lot to say for someone who is coming to a free event”. He continued to vocalize to the security guard that was near us that i was only here to complain about the music. He continued to act offended and speak negatively to me and people around us so i decided to walk off and leave. Thinking it was a one time incident, i stumbled upon this guy again at The Canary on a Monday night dance social. After i payed up front, i walk into the venue and he saw me and said “I remember you, you are the guy that complains!”. I immediately asked him if this was going to be a problem between us and he responded by saying “idk is it going to be a problem?”. With that type of response, it was clear that I was not welcomed, so i left the venue and went to a different dance social. This kind of behavior creates an unwelcoming and uncomfortable environment, which is the opposite of what a dance social should be about. There are plenty of well-organized, respectful events in the dance community, and I’d highly recommend choosing those instead of supporting someone who doesn’t value their attendees. I hope this review helps others avoid a similar experience.

Well I went on Tuesday for the salsa class. I heard classes were Tuesday and Wednesday. I had a late rush at work so I got there late. The instructor singled me out and announced that I can't be late 🙄 It shouldn't matter, we are there to have fun and enjoy the free class. Class is 8p-10p
