"Established in 1969, La Cumbre is a must-visit for burrito completionists, but isn’t the best day-to-day pick on this list. Still, as one of two credible contenders for the title of inventor of the Mission-style burrito, a burrito from La Cumbre can be a necessary nostalgia trip in a time when things feel all too unfamiliar." - Lauren Saria, Paolo Bicchieri, Eater Staff

"This popular Mexican-food mainstay in the heart of San Francisco 's Mission District is one of two places in the city that claim to have invented the Mission-style burrito (the other is El Faro): a hefty, elephant-leg-size wrap distinguished from other burritos by its size and the inclusion of rice and other ingredients. The restaurant was first opened as a meat market in 1967 by Mexican immigrants Raul and Michaela Duran, who are said to have served their first burrito in 1969 after noticingthat local workers needed a substantial yet portable meal. The Mission Burrito was born, containing most of the food groups: protein, vegetables, dairy, and grains. The Durans converted their meat market into a full-time restaurant in 1972. Taqueria la Cumbre offers a full menu of Mexican food, all made fresh. Theburritos are made assembly-linestyle. (Fun fact: When the Durans first came to San Francisco, they hired a high school kid to make flour tortillasbefore school. The kid, Jorge Santana, would go on to be a popular musician, like his brother Carlos.)"

I'ld say dont come here eat food not really good i can recommend not this place. Meat is chewy dry cold. not fresh food at all RUde people work over there. rice was smelly.

Google
Been going there since 1975, THE best steak and cheese burrito is SF. Every thing is very good. We were able to watch the family grow through the generations.

Alice van der Bruggen

Google
My first time? The steak burrito was perfect…I’m assuming because I ordered in person. My second order was not at all what I ordered. The beans were wrong and the meat? It looked like a mix of pork and tongue… I ordered steak. My advice is to order in person. I won’t be going back.

I’ve been coming to this taqueria for years, and it remains my absolute favorite in San Francisco! As the originator of the Mission-style burrito, they’ve truly perfected the art of CA Mexican taqueria cuisine imo—every bite is flavorful, filling, and hits all the right notes. I especially love that they offer a wide variety of veggie options, making it easy to enjoy something delicious whether you’re in the mood for a classic carnitas burrito or a hearty vegetarian plate. The ingredients are always taste fresh, and the portions are generous without being over the top. I do miss their salsa bar—it added such a fun, customizable touch to every meal—so I’m hoping they bring it back someday. In the meantime, the salsas they provide are still amazing. Bonus points for having a Peninsula location too, which makes it super convenient when I’m out of the city but still craving that Mission-style goodness. Highly recommend to locals and visitors alike! *special thanks to Eddie and his family for always letting my dad sell his succulent plant’s torwards the end of his battle with cancer. He always enjoyed strumming his guitar outside and was a part of the mission vibes.

Google
Hands down one of the best burrito 🌯 Super friendly staff, got some complementary tortilla chips with different sauces. Burritos are royally filled (non of us could finish them). Was too hungry so dove in haha hence the not so appetizing picture 🙈

Google
Super chicken burrito with all the fillings was great. Friendly and quick service. However, the horchata is extremely sweet - all sugar and no real fresh ingredients

Google
Another delicious place I got to try on the Mission food tour. Honestly would have never tried this place by the looks of it. But it was delicious. First time for me to try beef tongue (our guide highly recommended it) and it did not disappoint. Very smooth texture and super tasty. My friend's chicken taco was also very flavorful and moist. The vegan taco was the only thing that looked a bit anemic and with a tiny slice of avocado. Still giving it 5 stars because of the friendly service

The food is amazing! Love the staff super friendly. Their margaritas are excellent. Best burrito I've had in Long time they did not disappoint.

Yelp
Honestly the number one burrito place in the Bay Area as far as I'm concerned. I don't live in the city but I always love to go there whenever I can. I don't know exactly what's their secret I buy the same but of meet and cook it but it doesn't turn out the way it does at this wonderful gem of a restaurant !

Isaac A.

Yelp
Ordered veggie supper burrito! Prices jump about from regular to super which felt annoying since I only wanted the pico and guac. Bean flavor was the highlight. Wish there were more veggies and flavor! Tortilla also fell apart pretty quickly. Friend got nachos and enjoyed them! So maybe that's the move. They have cheese sauce vs shredded cheese on top fyi

Kurt S.

Yelp
Cold burritos and wayyy under-seasoned... they've let things slip over the years. I won't be returning.

Martha L.

Yelp
I don't live in the area but for over 40 years anytime I am in San Francisco. I get a burrito at La Cumbre. It is just the best and the service is great.

Michael C.

Yelp
Stopped by for lunch. Super dark interior, pretty grungy, but you're obviously not here for a super nice ambience. Service was also fairly slow for there not being that many customers. I got a super burrito with chicken. Definitely solid, but nothing stands out from any other burrito you can get in the Mission. A bit too carb heavy for me; wish there was less rice and more beans/meat. The sauces were also just decent. Green sauce solid per usual, but the orange and red were really strange. Orange tasted like melted cheese, and red was way too sweet. Overall, you pretty much know what you're getting, so come if you want a good solid fast burrito.

Yelp
I'll tell you that I wasn't impressed the first time I visited Taqueria La Cumbre for last year's TotMW. Everything seemed rushed, and I couldn't tell why. It seemed weird inside. When I returned for this year's TotMW, I had a totally different feeling. Everything looked, smelled, and tasted the same. But something was different. Had I changed? Probably. It started with the cashier claiming to remember me. From that one visit almost a year prior? I highly doubted it, but he seemed sure, and he had a big smile on his face, so that could only portend burrito goodness for me, right? My burrito was good. Not Pancho Villa good, but good nonetheless. I also really liked the atmosphere this time. Maybe it's because I had come on a hot day the first time, but this second time, it was a cool night. I watched other burrito eaters arrive, order their burritos, and enjoy themselves; and I enjoyed myself even more. I returned another time for a takeout order. The same guy seemed to recognize me, but he didn't say anything about it this time. He was all business, but then this other lady arrived, and he started flirting with her while I was still in the middle of ordering, and then he smiled at me and apologized and told me my order would be right up. They need to fix their sign. Yes, it's an old original, but having a broken sign makes your business look cheap, even if the flashing light in the sign still works. If it were farther south on Valencia, I'd visit it way more often, but if I'm walking all the way up here, I'll just go ahead with Pancho Villa or even El Toro, because they're both better. They are. Sorry.

Kelly H.

Yelp
We ordered the fish burrito (the super version) and it was AMAZING! Literally one of my favorite burritos in the city. The fish tasted excellent and all the flavors came together so well. The sauce to accompany the burrito was a perfect addition. You can also easily split it with 2 people because it is massive. 10/10

Yelp
To follow up on what I had said earlier in my Serrano's pizzeria review in that the Mission district is a nice burg with many establishments that are around the corner for you discover an interesting culinary history of the district. Among these places is the burrito places and there are three that are key to understanding about the legends of the "Mission Burrito" or the burrito in general as far as its origin stories. I will not mention the other two for now but know that this establishment, is among the big three in the Mission district. All establishments that have been cited or have claimed to have been the originators of the burrito and there might be some legitimacy to the stories, rumors and claims that are shared between these establishments but there is one thing that all of them that you, dear reader, can be certain of: they make the definitive Classic Mission District Burrito or by a different name: El Burrito Casera (or The Homestyle Burrito). Because all other places in the Mission make burritos, but all of them are no where close among the legendary three of the Mission district that locals hold near and dear to them - and this is one of them (so respect that or else!) Other burrito establishments in the mission district go for a more commercial, fast-casual experience with the decoration (all white walls with either one mural or portrait or typical imagery of 19th century Mexico), La Cumbre screams unapologetically "Chicano!" From the Eddie Van Halen Guitar hanging in the far right back from the entrance, to the Jesús Helguera famous "La Adelita" painting which serves as La Cumbre's mascot; and although some could confuse it for Mexican chauvinism, it is anything but (you can take my word for it); truly a place worthy for Guy Fieri's praises. So! Taqueria La Cumbre: what does it offer? Well two things in fact: the homestyle Mission burrito, one of the legendary ones that are said to be the original home of The Burrito - not just merely the Mission style burrito; and there are possible signs that this is true: with the particular manner of how the steaks are cooked and prepared whereupon it is pre-marinated and slow cooked and ready to serve upon order instead of the more industrial methods of preparation that focus on fast service at industrial speeds. This is also true with regards to the rice, refried beans, guacamole, and pico de gallo salsa (either mild or hot). There isn't a sharp contrast of flavors or textures at all in this taco but instead a savory conjunction that does live up to the reputation of being a homestyle burrito. Not entirely convinced of my initial impressions, I ordered to eat later a different item: a steak quesadilla suiza. The steak quesadilla suiza was similar in its over all taste: it wasn't having sharp, distinct contrast between the ingredients but instead they were working together to make something that didn't stand out but focus on coming together to be comfort food - and most important of all: although it was filling, it didn't overstay its welcome in my palette or in my moment of repose. I may have my doubts about the the claims that La Cumbre may have but, I will not deny that it is truly is an inspiration for the more other, well known and popular burrito establishments throughout the mission district. I encourage anyone to come, give the taqueria your business. Because La Cumbre is one of those few places that can tell you more about the Mission district itself through its food than could any tourist guide. I hope to see you there my friend.

Yelp
"Home of the Mission Burrito" so we had to check it out. AMBIANCE: Parking: Welcome to the City. Parking is limited but there's 15 minute parking if you're looking for a grab and go. Seating: Inside seating for maybe about 6 groups, 20 people. Vibes: You're in the Heart of San Fran so you're surrounded by a lot of eclectic culture from art and presentations of houses and restaurants. It's a grit and grind place so don't expect anything too flashy. The place itself is pretty neat. I dig the 80's lite rock music, very Frisco feeling. A spacious place filled with history from the art or previous articles written about this place. Great for a quick grab and go or if you just wanna casually sit and enjoy the history of The City. FOOD: Mission (Super) Burrito (Recommend) You have two choices of meats and we got the steak and al pastor. The meats were flavorful and savory. Mix that in with the guacamole, black beans, salsa, cheese, and lettuce, you're in for a fulfilling delight. It took me two sittings to finish. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Solid! Professional staff that was helpful with our order! TL; DR OVERALL: 4 Stars. Good prices, selections, food, and just a solid experience. There are a lot of burrito places but it's unique to be at the "home" of the Mission Burrito. There's more dishes to explore here, so if you're in the area, do give this spot a try. TIPS: * Try their sun-dried tomato tortilla

Yelp
I really liked my burrito from here. I think salsa especially make this place. I didn't get a good photo but I got an al pastor and chicken burrito. the habanero salsa was super yummy !

Yelp
The power of equality--- Red Hot Chili Peppers harmony in my head I recently went to Taqueria La Cumbre with Marcelo. He is my friend for the past five years and a mentor who hails from Brazil. Marcelo lives near this Taqueria. The Taqueria that invented the Mission Burrito. Wow! Marcelo invited me for a burrito that apparently was named after him. No way. I couldn't believe it. Marcelo like me is a longtime vegan. Apparently the Marcelo burrito here comes with pinto beans, rice, and avacado with green sauce on the side. The Marcelo burrito is by default vegan which is awesome and comes with no chips which makes it more affordable. That's what he said and it is all true aka Satya. I think it was only $8 or so which is super affordable for San Francisco. Name eats for under $10 in San Francisco. Yamo, here, and ______. Fill in the blank. Hit me up for affordable plant strong eats when you get the 411. The only caveat is feedback and critique not to Marcelo yet to who made our burritos for Marcelo's burrito was slightly bigger than mine. I would suggest burritos being the same size yet perhaps since Marcelo has his own burrito named after him and even is on the printed receipt with Marcelo Burrito printed on it since his burrito is in the restaurant's system he should get a bigger burrito! Burrito slightly bigger or not. It hit the spot, filling, and tasty. It was just what I needed after a trip to Miami doing an intensive yoga retreat for two weeks and seeing my fam for another week in Cocoa Beach. Perfect introduction back to the Mission aka my hood. Thank you Marcelo. Thank you Taqueria La Cumbre for the solid default vegan Marcelo burrito. Tasty affordable eats in the little city by the Bay. I will be back like Arnold said!

Yelp
NOPE dont come over here to EAT. I ordered Steak fajita meat chewy dry taste like RUBBER rice was old smelly. My plate taste no beuno. They forgot my soda. Very aggressive people work over there. i tell them my food is not fresh its smelly they told me thats mexican food. I love mexican food, but they dont want to understand what i m trying to say. Service is Zero no good they forgot my drink, not even busy time. NEED IMPROVE ALL THINGS!!!

Kevan P.

Yelp
Pretty typical food and ambience for this sort of in city burrito restaurant. Interior is worn, but cared for. Restroom is a bit rough. I would avoid. Service was good; you order at counter and pick it a bit later. Food was simple but well seasoned and tasty after a long day of walking around town. The sound of the chef chopping up meat was a consistent added rhythm to music. Prices are fair, especially compared to other more "upscale" restaurants a few blocks away. About 6 tables at interior, which seem to rotate reasonably fast, so there is a place to sit. No outside seating; though with the number of homeless around it is probably a good call.

Robert G.

Yelp
This place is supposedly the home of the burrito which is what piqued my interest. I was happy to see that they had carnitas on the menu as well as some other options that you normally don't see in this type of Mexican food establishment. The choices of meats and even tortillas plus other options were plentiful which really gave a nice customization to what we were eating. The carnitas were moist and tasted as if it was actually slow cooked versus cooked quickly, like many restaurants do. I honestly kind of expected the burrito to be even bigger than it was as it was a standard size burrito which filled me up. They have three sauces, one of which was a creamy red, then a spicy red and a green avocado salsa. All three were good but the spicy red was by far my favorite. They did have some agua fresca's too as well as beer and bottled Mexican Coke which is the best choice with this kind of meal. If I lived in the area this would probably be a regular place for me.

Andreea I.

Yelp
Casual place where you order at the counter and they'll call your number. Food was ready within a few minutes after ordering which was great. Unfortunately I didn't think $7 for a super taco that had too much lettuce was worth it.

Stacey J.

Yelp
We ordered the steak burrito and the garlic prawn/steak burrito. The garlic prawn was the star of the show - nice seafood flavor and generous portion of shrimp that flavored the entire burrito. Normally, I'm all about the green salsa but the yellow salsa was very smokey (which we loved!). Fast service and decent prices!

Kitty L.

Yelp
Very disappointed that this place not really good food because I was here just two months ago the food was good so I came back with my family. I ordered a steak and shrimp plate it was really bend no favorite, my husband ordered chicken mole was awful taste as if brown sauce on top no tasted. My cousins from afar have cancitas and think is ok cuz we want to be polite but I know the food is not good enough and my hubby really disappointed and feel we make a mistake come here of all the Mexican food available in the Mission District WHy I pick this place?

Andrew R.

Yelp
This tacqueria is amazing! The grilled chicken and the chipotle chicken were so tender and flavorful, and the rice/beans/guac were so fresh and tasty! A very solid option if you're craving Mexican food in the mission! Also please look at my picture of the bathroom key... the staff here are so fun and friendly :)

Jess S.

Yelp
Taqueria La Cumbre in San Mateo, compared to the other places right down the street, is tasty (and has great drinks) but is like someone crossed a taqueria with a On the Border/Chevy's. It's some place you'd take your midwestern relatives when you want to show them mexican food but like, you don't want to take them to a taqueria or grullense. Like, this is the kind of place that has fajita options. They make me feel vaguely healthier when I put them in my burrito. For claiming to be the home of the mission style burrito, the burrito I got was stupidly difficult to eat, like kept leaking out the bottom. But it was tasty. And they have veggies. Was it the best burrito in the area? Nah. But it felt like a nicer place to meet my friends and their chairs aren't as uncomfortable as Pancho Villas.

Fancypants X.

Yelp
I remember way back in the day (says every person over a certain age) when we'd go to La Cumbre at ungodly hours & it'd be poppin; not because the food was bomb but because they were one of the taquerias that stayed open late late. Those vague recollections of so-so food must've been accurate because I had drafted a review recently that simply said " nachos - fuck no." Okay, so no nachos. We ordered carne asada tacos during the pandemic & I remember them being quite good, not in the nostalgic way; they were genuinely tasty. Then we ordered them again recently, along with al pastor & roast pork tacos for him & all three meats had no flavor. The shrimp & steak burrito barely contained any shrimp. The rice was flavorful but I don't order a burrito for its rice! The only item we liked from our last order was the chicken super quesadilla made with corn tortilla but that item was a one-off, not a standing order like tacos & burritos. We won't be ordering from La Cumbre anytime soon again since their tacos & burritos have been so disappointing. Some things never change, I'm just sad the same can't be said about my age & youthful energy.

Jaina S.

Yelp
Maybe it was just a very bad day for them (ordered around 1pm, maybe the end of a lunch rush?) but it's hard to overstate how far this place has fallen from its former glory as the birthplace of the burrito as we know it ... The one I got today tasted like a burrito-attempt by an elementary school cafeteria. The meat must've been sitting around awhile, the salsas were bland, the chips (an extra charge) were unsalted cardboard out of a bag. There are plenty of burritos to be had in the mission and I recommend you look elsewhere. I am always a little conflicted about leaving a bad review but this was just kind of shocking. I hope they get it together because it is an SF institution.

Paolo B.

Yelp
I remember coming here 10 years ago, after it was featured on Man vs Food, and thought it was just ok. I found myself in the mission after the Warriors game and decided to give it another go. Of course I went with a steak super burrito. What I appreciated was that the pieces of steak were tender and flavorful. They didn't skimp on the meat and they even grill the tortilla which is always a plus in my book. The size of the burrito was bigger than I remembered, and ended up turning it into two meals. I made the mistake of going with refried beans, which in hindsight I should've gone with pinto, I think the flavors would've been better. While it's not my favorite burrito, or one that I would go out of my way for, it still fits the bill when I'm in the area, near Dolores park and looking to get my burrito fix with minimal wait. $12 for a super burrito in the mission is pretty good value, and the wait around 8pm on a Saturday night was non-existent. Glad I found my way back after all these years

Nicole M.

Yelp
I had no idea that this place was still here! At work we always tell the story about how Carlos Santana worked here when he first moved to the US and how the Mission style burrito (the burrito we all know and love today) was born here. So obviously I had to try this place at like 1:30 am on a Friday lol The burrito was HUGE! I got carne asada at the recommendation of the gentleman I was ordering with. This is a solid burrito. The salsas were my favorite part! I loved all three so much and kept switching between them. The burrito did get a little messy and fall apart at the end but that honestly doesn't bother me too much. With so many burrito spots in the mission, I'd say this is a good one to check out! Especially because of the history here!

Sindy A.

Yelp
Tried their Nacho Fries here one night and was pretty impressed with it. I thought the portion was big and I shared this with my fiancé. We went with Carne asada, yellow cheese, and mild green salsa. I realized after that you can mix white and yellow cheese, note for next time! The flavor was really good all together, but I do think I've had better Carne Asada. There could have also been a little more meat, but we also ordered 20 mins before they closed so I wonder if they're normally more generous if it wasn't so late. Staff was friendly and the service was quick. I'd come back here again for the Nacho Fries!

Steffi S.

Yelp
Burrito was gigantic for the price and delicious! If you're looking for a great burrito, this is the spot! Service was awesome as well!

Ruhi S.

Yelp
A quiet, culturally charming spot to fix your Mexican food cravings. Plenty of vegetarian options here to choose from. I tried the Deluxe Super Vegetarian burrito that came with guacamole, black beans, salsa, cheese, and lettuce after a recommendation from a very helpfully workers. Although the black beans were slightly undercooked when I tried it, I believe it isn't the case normally.

Joe J.

Yelp
It has been a longtime. The last time I was here they still had their market! The burrito was just as good as I remembered though I was surprised about the size. Knocked off one star for the burrito was not as big as I was expecting. Regardless, I look forward to coming back.

Ester F.

Yelp
Super El Pastor Burrito from this place with the sauce that is AH-mazing!! No wonder why my son said we needed to stop by there since we live in Concord. I love my burritos here but THE sauce!!!

David B.

Yelp
I've been getting my burritos as Taqueria Pancho Villa for so long, but this time I happened to be around the corner on Valencia, so I decided to try this instead. Basically the same burrito as at Pancho Villa, but with these small differences: 1) The carne asada was gristlier and a bit drier, at least on this occasion; 2) More tomatoes in the salsa, and the spicy salsa was less spicy; 3) Fewer if any carrots and peas in the rice. Other differences: 1) shorter ordering lines and the food was ready faster; 2) no prices on the rather confusing whiteboard menu; 3) restroom closed (though from what I've read elsewhere, if it wasn't you'd wish it was).

Lewis B.

Yelp
Open very late on the weekends which is a huge plus. Great central mission location, menu is huge and includes vegetarian friendly options. Prices, quality, and speed are all really good too. Veggie California Burrito is my go to

Hector O.

Yelp
I came here to order a taco or just meat, cheese, cilantro, and onions. They charge me seven dollars for a small taco. This place is a rip off. I am tired of these Mexican restaurants overcharging us for the same thing. This place is a rip off, and all the Mexicans restaurants are starting to do the same thing. Do not support businesses, especially Mexican restaurants who are overcharging us for beans and rice that are still the same price as they were five years ago do not go to this place.

Joseph O.

Yelp
The food is fresh and is legit. The selection is amazing and is SO good. I love love this place. I am visiting SF and came here to eat here, aside other places. It's the $hit.

Phillip A.

Yelp
The food was "pretty" but it was a step above Taco Bell. Don't be fooled by "Home of the Mission Burrito". I'm pretty sure that burrito is now homeless.

Jeff W.

Yelp
Died and went to heaven !!!! With a beef tongue aka lengua super burrito The moist tender and flavorful lengua ever ! I will likely use up my allowance of exclamation points in this Yelp review. The sign on the building is the home of the original Mission Style Burrito This place surely does not disappoint! I cannot believe I waited so long in between visits ! It was really so amazing that I must relax now and take a post meal nap. JYW highly recommends!

Ashley M.

Yelp
Was in the mission really for any Mexican food and figured burrito would be perfect. We happened to walk by this place and saw the sign outside about being the origin of where mission burrito started. Got the carne asada and the grilled piping hot burrito was great. Full of rice beans, guac the works. Definitely come here hungry in order to finish it. We also got guac and chips on the side which seemed a bit creamier than really freshly made guac... like it reminded me of the premade guac but still good. Service was quick as there were only couple orders ahead of us. The seating was abundant but a bit worn in and they don't seem to clean or wipe the tables in between customers. But maybe part of the charm?

Cassius W.

Yelp
Steak burrito goated. Friendly people, nice place. Tacos are good too, everything has beans

Alisha H.

Yelp
The tacos were huge, and flavorful. The sauces were plentiful and delicious. The service was fast and efficient. Big, open space and good for groups.

Melody L.

Yelp
A savior for when you're out in the Mission at ungodly hours and all you want is a calorie-heavy greasy meal to cure your cravings. The chicken super burrito is HUGE but comes apart too easily and becomes really messy to eat. Because the crowd late at night is mostly drunk people, the place doesn't feel clean and there's a ton of trash left behind on the tables. Obviously you don't come here for the ambiance when it's 2am, but I feel like even the burrito could be better.

Sam R.

Yelp
This place used to be great but I had not been here in many years. My friends and I went there for dinner on Sunday night. I guess one should only order the burrito here (based on the comments). We all ordered plate dinners. My roommate and I got the chicken mole plate and my friend got the chicken enchiladas plate; we shared a side of chips. The chips were great, the salsa was only okay, the rice was good, refried beans were standard and good. The chicken in all of our dishes had the texture of canned chicken. The mole sauce was not mole. I am half Mexican and that is not mole; it was a red pepper sauce; flavorless. My friend's enchiladas looked very dry. We were all very disappointed as we used to come here in it's hey day. The lighted sign out front was completely broken and gave me a bad vibe. I should have listened to my intuition. I really hate to write this review - wished for a better outcome. Do yourself a favor and only order a burrito here (with a side of chips). :-)

Michael N.

Yelp
What a dissapointment. This used to be a favorite in the Mission. I returned after a few years absence, to find shabby, dirty place. Hasn't been painted in years. Food was mediocre at best, then I had a stomach ache after consuming a crappy, greasy taco. Talk about resting on your laurels! Will never return.

Yelp
After Outside Lands, we hunted down and then scarfed down the super nachos, steak burrito, and three of their pork tacos and ate them in bed, on top of a towel, with no pants on. It was absolutely glorious. Food is incredible. Definitely recommend this experience.

Yelp
Let me preface this by saying I've been coming to La Cumbre since I was maybe 6 years old & commuting from Sacramento. My parents used to come here which in turn I started coming here and let me say this now the burritos have not changed! I'm not sure where the shitty reviews are coming from but I placed an order for pickup - 6 steak deluxe burritos and 2 orders of chips. I was hesitant at first bc the reviews kinda spooked me but this place isn't gonna last this long because it's crappy food. Nonetheless I was happily reliving my childhood via La Cumbre. Definitely coming back, don't miss this OG gem on mission.

Yelp
We had to come to the place that started it all! Credited as the creators of the famed mission burritos, La Cumbre did not disappoint. My girlfriend had the Carne Asada supreme while I had the Lengua supreme burrito, and they were both delicious. The lengua was so juicy that even a day later, I'm still thinking about it! Very friendly staff and willing to give you plenty of hot sauce that will even make the biggest spice lovers ask for water ! The place was really well decorated, and it was an amazing atmosphere. It's unfortunate some people won't come out to Mission. They are definitely missing out.

Yelp
The service was good and friendly. The burrito was huge but the tacos tasted amazing!

Yelp
This is my favorite place HOWEVER I like it better when the mom is there. The sons/men do not pay attention when you're ordering. I asked for a chicken and prawn burrito. To drive all the way home and get a steak and prawn burrito. VERY HUNGRY AND ANNOYED

Yelp
I ordered a burrito using Grubhub and on the web site, it said the driver delivered it. I tried to call the restaurant and it took me to an answering machine in which the memory was full. Grubhub tried to call the driver and the driver cannot be reached. I waited a long time. All Grubhub could do was issue me money and give me some free grub. That is totally unacceptable to me. It's Christmas Eve. The least they could have done was bring me some chips, not leave me hungry with nothing to eat on Christmas Eve. What good is Grubhub's $25 certificate if they can't bring me any food. Give me $30, $40, $50... it's all useless if they can't broker my food like they're supposed to. Grubhub and Taqueria La Cumbre wasted from 5:21 to 7:00 (customer service include that did not resolve anything) of my life that I will never get back. Do you really want what happened to me to happen to you?

Yelp
It is probably how real taqueria looks like. If you like fancy and clean restaurants, this place is definitely not for you. The personnel is very friendly and helpful. I got my first real mission-style burrito and it was amazing. I liked the experience.
