"A Cup of Tea at the Alvear Palace Don't let the 'Afternoon Tea' title fool you: at the Alvear Palace's lavish service, you'll be having far more than a cup of Earl Grey. Guests are pleasantly stuffed here, in fact, with beautiful little cakes, homemade scones, tiny tea sandwiches, and elegant Kir Royales, and treated to classy tableside service, silver cart and all. This afternoon tea is a meal in itself, and an opportunity to experience some of the old-fashioned glamour of Avenida Alvear and its signature luxury hotel. Make reservations - and for the best table, ask for a seat in the covered garden patio."

We went for Afternoon tea and the word that sums it up is impeccable. Wonderful attentive service, delicious food, hot beverages, and bottomless sparkling wine. The wait staff were extremely friendly and willing to have conversation making the service feel very inviting. Thank you for a great experience in a beautiful setting.

This is by far one of the best experiences in Argentina. The high tea experience is worth it. You need a reservation but the staff is so accommodating and polite. I believe the quality of the food and sweat treats is above average and the tea is delicious. I enjoyed the champagne and I highly recommend this for the beautiful gardens and unique palace vibes.

Exceptional brunch in the heart of Buenos Aires located in the luxury Alvear Palace Hotel. Posh interior, great atmosphere, good selection of food - highly recommend to visit. Must try black caviar, prawns and oysters, it’s fresh and delicious. All stuff was amazing except a lady who served the drinks - she disappeared all the time and forgot what we chose. Don’t forget to book the place in advance - the brunch is very busy and they have it once per week only (on Sundays).

Located inside the Alvear Palace: a classical architectural icon in Buenos Aires, with lavish interior and incontrovertible reminiscence of European Belle Époque luxury and architecture. Apart from the dazzling interior of the hotel, the restaurant itself offers a feast-like experience for brunch on Sundays. Not to be missed. A mouth watering array of cold cuts, salads, cheeses, iconic main dishes and a sushi bar. Culminating in a gorgeous display of mini desserts that are delicious as much as irresistible. Truly a must-experience at least once (or more!) whilst in Buenos Aires.

Excellent buffer. Kids are super happy. Everything is easily accessible, very kids-friendly service. Great food, great assortment of seafood, sushi, nigiri, desserts. A station of freshly pan-warmed crepes or waffles with the assortment of ice creams totally won young hearts. They accept reservations; one time we were lucky to walk-in, but the reservation really helped with another.

A great experience! My first afternoon tea and it was very impressive. The pastry delicious and no words for the scones! A pleasure to have a loose leaves teas. The service was good (too many tables for one person, we had to wait to be served and we were one of the first to arrive). All the details were in place including the gloves for the teapots. So cute! The piano man who played in live, gave an special feeling to the experience. Definitely, I will come back.

Empanadas were good, along with the bread and the wine. The pasta was severely lacking in flavor, texture and presentation. Service was OK, waited 10 minutes to be greeted and another 15 to be given menus (we had to ask for them). Service members were nice but lacking in quality.

This place was the best afternoon tea place in Buenos Aires when we googled it. But unfortunately it wasn’t good at all. First of all, a server didn’t give us tea menu or explain what they had. And then another young server came and just spoke what she wanted to talk and didn’t listen to me even though I asked for a decaffeinated coffee or tea. She didn’t understand “DECAF” and just repeated what she said. I couldn't understand how the staff at such a big and nice hotel couldn't communicate with costumers. The sandwiches were dry and not tasty at all. The other pastries were also not good and very poor quality. The cake cart came at the end but it was almost empty so we didn’t have many choices. And we didn’t have the last treat, chocolate also. We could see why others also left most of desserts before finishing. But the place was very beautiful.

Yelp
This hotel is probably one of the nicest I have ever had the pleasure to visit. Others have detailed the history of this wonderful hotel so I will not repeat except to say that the old world charm and graciousness that I am sure existed here in the 1930s is still here today. From The white glove service to the heartfelt "Buenos Dias" from every staffer is what five star service should be. And just to discuss pedigree for a moment, Larry has stayed in some of the finest hotels in the world, from the Raffles Hotel in Singapore and Siem Reap in Cambodia to the Langham in Pasadena to the Ritz Carlton in Double Bay, Sydney (where the concierge found someone to rent Larry a Fat Boy Hog for a two day ride to to the blue mountains) to the penthouse at the Four Seasons in Manhattan. Larry knows spanky hotels, plus the occasional Holiday Inn Express just for grounding. Oh where the heck was I going? Ah yes. The hotel itself has gilded finishes from the 1930s, beautiful architectural columns and enuf brass and gold leaf to keep a hundred midshipmen busy 24/7. Plus marble floors, gorgeous carpets and beautiful high ceilings. Larry had a wonderful suite here with two rooms, one a sitting area and the other a bedroom with a bed so large that a regulation soccer match could have been played on the mattress. Frette sheets, starched. Awesome! The bathroom had a huge shower with water pressure akin to the base of Niagara Falls and a whirlpool tub with a TV AND A HOUSE PHONE!! When was the last time you saw that, Sports Fans? Oh, and a bidet. Not sure what that is, exactly, but them dogs would have loved it for their water bowl. Had a fridge but no coffee maker which could have been a problem until I realized you can go downstairs any time and get a huge cuppa to take away. Anytime. Did I mention the full menu 24 hour room service and the 24 hour housekeeping on top of the twice daily room cleaning and freshening? Also the little doilies next to the bed for your bare feets. Or the free room service coffee and croissants delivered at 3am as Larry was jet lagged? Or the amazing dining room staff like Paloma as well as Paulo and Juan Pablo, all of whom remembered our breakfast orders from day one,and served me bottomless cups of coffee. Or the amazing concierge staff who drummed up reservations at Roux, the trendiest restaurant in the city? No papers in English? No worries, the Hotel provides a free subscription to the app PressReader that had a zillion English language papers on line. Larry had never seen that before. Yes the rooms are sold in dollars and not cheap. A twelve day stay here was about 8 grand, but that's just how big Larry rolls. Centrally located in this wonderful, walkable city. Stay for a couple of days; you will be spoiled for life. Oh yes, of course Chuck Schumer, Senate Dood was staying here on his first vacation in two years. He had the good fortune to meet the Larrys. Loved us big time. Come on down.

Yelp
Hotel has pros and cons: Pros: Alvear Palace is in excellent location and walkable to lots of things. The service is very good and the concierges are the best asset the hotel has. Great water pressure and excellent lighting in the bathrooms. There is a nice gym and outdoor space on the roof (with an odd smell, I should add). The hotel has old world charm. Cons: There was spotty WiFi at BEST throughout our stay and I suspect if they were really paying for the fastest speed possible we would have had consistently working internet (or mostly) which was spotty at best. There are no towels at the roof deck for laying out. You must bring your own from the pool one floor floor above or from your room. The buffet breakfast feels like a Marriott, though some pastries are very good. Not a lot of vegetables at all or other things if you are on restricted diet. There is almost no minibar. One box of Ritz-type crackers doesn't cut it as a minibar. No coffee maker (you have to request one). Hairdryers are weak. Prices are high for the pared down rooms with so few (working) outlets and severely dated and dusty curtains and carpeting that are trapping the mold and dirt. Only 2 floors have been renovated (10 and 11) and the other rooms and floors are very outdated. I smelled and saw mildew/mold upon walking onto our floor. This is my biggest complaint of the Alvear Palace. This REQUIRES immediate attention and remediation or guests with inflammatory diseases will get sick. Forcing guests to sleep in mold is simply unforgivable. During our stay there were too many cruise people staying here which seems like they were cut a good deal because of the large group size, and made this hotel feel more like a Hyatt. For turn-down, there are no chocolates. Just plastic water bottles. Room service menu looks really boring. Not a lot of great options. The rooms lack sufficient outlets and the rooms overall are pared down and look shabby. Why haven't these all been updated? Even with new owners? How can this hotel call itself a 5-star with such outdated rooms, limited breakfast buffet that resembles a Marriott, and no cushions or towels on the sundeck? To avoid this kind of mishap I typically ONLY stay at chain hotels with a solid name brand. Guests are savvy and know when a hotel cuts corners. In this case it is obvious. A lot is lacking in this hotel but if they made the necessary changes (and do a full mold remediation) they could easily become the 5-star they are telling people they are.

Yelp
The Alvear Palace Hotel is one of the most luxurious hotels around the world. The hotel features magnificent architecture & decor, it is recognized worldwide for its unparalleled combination of hospitality & personalized service.

Brad M.

Yelp
Fantastic food in the grill, but abysmal service. The doormen, hotel staff and rooms are top of the line. The wait staff is indifferent even on a slow evening.

J G.

Yelp
Fabulous hotel stay for four nights. Felt like royalty and was treated like royalty - especially at breakfast. Their signature restaurant in the lower level - the Grill - was the best meal we've had. Beware - portions are very large and generous. The hotel staff was engaging and attentive. The location is great for access to many things that kept us busy. We agree with the other five star reviews on the positives.

Yelp
great hotel, it has the old European taste! Classic deco and friendly hosts! I love this place!

Karen W.

Yelp
Elegant and gracious, exuding an old world charm from a bygone era. Had wine and canapés in the lobby bar while waiting for the restaurant L'Orangerie to open for lunch..wonderful and attentive service! Unfortunately, can't say the same for their restaurant L'Orangerie.. when I finally went over for lunch the hostess there was very rude and abrupt even though the place was almost completely empty.. she should be fired for doing their very beautiful restaurant a grave injustice! I was so put off by her attitude that I eschewed the lunch there n went somewhere else!

Yelp
Very luxurious and historical. Well situated in Buenos Aires, excellent service and attentive staff.

Yelp
Where oh where is the TEN STAR rating, YELP? This hotel not only resets all expectations, but it also includes a time machine experience to a time of more refined and gracious living. Enter the magnificent Alvear Palace Hotel and you probably have walked into the grandest hotel you will ever experience. Opened in 1932, this hotel was designed in the Belle Époque style of grandeur for Europeans visiting Buenos Aires. Lucky for us, the hotel has somehow maintained its luxury and style though the decades. Marble floors, gold-gilted ceilings, mirrors, antiques, wait staff with white gloves, every language spoken- an air of grace and charmed never encountered anymore. Our room was a simple king standard and it was perfect in every way. High ceilings, gorgeous appointments, a chandelier in pristine condition dangling over the bed that had just the softest sheets ever. 6 piece bathroom, with a Tv over the bath- which I made sure to use. "House" in spanish in a luxury hotel jet tub is sometimes just the thing...Rooms were kept in pristine condition, with little foot linens laid down at night alone with the wee little box of chocolates. I could get used to this! I also tried the spa facilities on level -2: A river stone foot bath, a huge hot tub with stainless seating and infinity pool, a dry sauna a steam room. A few hours were lost down there... There is also a pool, but be warned it doesn't open until 1:00pm pretty much like everything in Argentina. There is also a lifeguard, which is somewhat creepy when you're the only person down there! Back up at the lobby level, there is a Champagne Lounge, a bar (try the local sparking wine in lieu of champagne), L'Orangerie, greenhouse naturally lit restaurant, and an arcade full of stores selling Rolexes and sparky baubles. And Hermes is across the street. A good time window shopping for sure! The concierge made a few reservations for us, but we mostly used the 5 star hotel as base camp for our more modest wanderings to the museums, the cemetery, the sidewalk cafes and the abundant fine dining options that the Recoleta holds in store. A wonderful wonderful place- I hope I have the good fortune to return one day!

Yelp
From reception to paying the bill, you are treated like a king in this beautiful palace stunningly located in the cemetery district. Everyone, from bellman to manager, makes sure your stay is memorable. The rooms are comfortable with a shower you will not want to leave. They gym is more than adequate. The restaurant has a diverse set of delicious options. I especially enjoyed the high tea with my son, which features a compilation of desserts, finger sandwiches and chocolates, and a chardon champagne to boot. All this at a great value. To top it off, they generously extended my checkout. Cannot praise it enough

Niklas B.

Yelp
Based on the sunday afternoon tea. The setting is very nice, the service so so and the food is absolutely terrible. The tea selection is OK. Go for the experience of tea in a nice hotel but don't expect delicious sandwiches, cakes and scones. They serve everything of course but it is just bad, i didn't really enjoy a single thing even though most was edible.

Yelp
If you like wearing shorts and sandals on your vacation I highly DO NOT recommend staying here ^_____^. This is a true 5-star property with 5-star service and 5-star customers. If you are all about high end, historic and chic stay this is your place. I can only imagine what a Presidential Suite looks like at this place but if YOU are a high roller or want to feel like one for a few nights... I would definitely put this Hotel as nummmmmm-m-m-m-ero #1 on my list during my stay in Buenos Aires. This property makes 4 Seasons look like kinder garden :D

Yelp
One of the most beautiful traditional hotels of Buenos Aires. The customer service is impeccable. The culinary is wonderful as well. Perfect location.

Yelp
We enjoyed every minute of our stay at the Alvear Palace Hotel. From the moment we arrived until the very end, we were always impressed. The staff is welcoming, knowledgeable and flat out do a great job to ensure a superior experience. We split our time in BA with a quick trip to El Calafate. The Alvear Front Desk accommodated us well with our plans and the two rooms we stayed in were spectacular. The morning breakfast is a dream. Hotel amenities, especially a really cool rooftop pool, were enjoyed by our family. IMO, the Alvear has the best location of all the 5 Star properties in BA. I highly recommend the Alvear Palace Hotel.

Yelp
We did afternoon tea here. The food was not bad but the service was horrendous. For a luxury hotel, I expected a lot more, and found the experience to be the opposite of relaxing. First, we arrived for our 5pm reservation, and were greeted with a long line. We did not get seated until 5:21pm. They then brought out the food and tea without letting us know what they brought or even asking if we wanted anything else, or if we wanted tea or coffee. None of the staff said a word to us. In terms of food, they only brought half our order. We had to chase down a waitress just to get our scones. I also asked for 2 glasses of water, when I was finally able to get her attention (took 2 attempts). After 15 minutes she brought 2 empty glasses. We then asked another waiter who said he would bring it, but never came. We then asked the same waitress again for water, and she brought it 15 min later. It was shocking to taste the water...it was clearly warm carbonated water that had gone flat. Agua con gas sin gas. For high tea, they also served champagne, which we had to again ask for 2x. It was warm, but at least was carbonated. I sympathize with the waitress here, but I came here for a relaxing and luxurious experience. Needless to say,it was not that and probably the worst tea experience I've had. ----- It is now 2.5 hours after our the start of our reservation. We just spent +30 min waiting for our check to be processed. Good place to waste time.

Yelp
The most beautiful hotel in Buenos Aires. Luxury to the max and the ambiance is very upscale

Jamie W.

Yelp
The ambiance and presentation is above par. I felt like a princess once I walked into the high tea room. This is a great place of you want to hang out with your girlfriends, have a tea party, splurge on finger food and yummy desserts. Have your cameras ready when you dine here because the interior design is picturesque!

Cynthia M.

Yelp
There's not a lot of places with the roof top bars in Argentina. Here you're able to see a great view of the city and have a nice cocktail. The time we went it was A pic quiet perhaps it's because the weather was called. There's not a great vibe like you would get at a rooftop bar in New York. The hotel itself is interesting so afterwards you can stroll around.

Justin C.

Yelp
We had the worst experience here for New Year's Eve. We were told the hotel was doing a 250 USD prix fixe dinner course with dancing and fireworks. When we got there we were put in the basement grill with all the other tourists while the real party was upstairs on the rooftop bar. The food was disgusting and there was so much confusion-- we called ahead because we have dietary restrictions and were told the chef was aware. Of course when we got there no one knew what we were talking about and were told the menu could not be changed. We finally spoke to someone who helped us but even then the staff brought the wrong dishes. Several of us got up because it was so bad and tried to go to the roof but were told it was full-- where all the people and real party was-- and directed to the empty pool area where families were all in their bathing suits while we were in tuxedos. It was embarrassing. The food was also terrible. Do not stay here they have no idea what they are doing.

Esteban B.

Yelp
It has been a great hotel. But no more. It is dated and badly needs improvement. Service is ok, but certainly not a five stars hotel. I used two restaurants, La Orangerie which is little more than a buffett. Rather mediocre food and so so service. Boring, same food every day and not a good selection. La Bourgogne is a real fiasco. Billed as one of the best restaurants in the country ( ? ? ), is below average in terms of food quality, creativity and selection. You can get much better food in almost any place in Buenos Aires, including lots of places at a tiny fraction of the cost. It is wildly overrated. Avoid it.

Sol M.

Yelp
Great. I just love coming here on Sundays for brunch. Great service, great food, classy and nice atmosphere. I openly recommend the brunch. Expensive for sure. But once in a while it is totally worth it!

Cory L.

Yelp
My friends and I had high tea here- was ok. Very beautiful setting and old, classic hotel. Service is ok, food was OK (I expected a bit more from the little finger foods from such a high end place and the price, $35 USD). We were told to visit the rooftop bar after our tea, but come to find out it was closed, so I went solo to try to find another terrace, just to see the beautiful sunset, and was immediately asked by a staff member what room number I had, which I said no, not staying here, just wanted to see the terrace as we just had tea, and he said no sorry, this is only for hotel guests! I was so taken aback! He would not even let me walk onto the terrace. I was thinking of staying here one night for a 'splurge' while in BA, but will definitely NOT being doing that now!

Siham Fayez A.

Yelp
This is a place to remember. We went to the restaurant to celebrate my birthday but then it was late already and as we were not registered guests we asked if we could stay there to know the place and have some wine and apetizers. And of course we could! We were really well hosted and the waiter speaks English, Portuguese and Spanish. They are all so nice and the place is so beautiful, wow! We had the wine and apetizers and we have plans to come back soon.
