The 38 Best Restaurants in Milwaukee, Wisconsin | Eater

"Since 1950, Elsa Kopp’s frozen custard has been a local staple for creamy comfort. But it’s not simple sundaes that inspire treks to the three suburban locations. The jumbo burgers have the charry-edged, beefy, buttery finish that all nouveau diner flattops yearn for. They’re housed in starchy soft buns and draped in melty processed yellow cheese, but from there personalizations hold a mirror up to the eater. Do you like it simple with ketchup? Or do you need a thrill with hot sauce and jalapeños? Why not make it a double with bacon and bracingly stinky fried onions? However you order it, the go-to move is to eat it in the car with the radio turned to a Brewers game (RIP Bob Uecker). That is living your best Milwaukee life. Best for: Summer nights after a little league game." - Todd Lazarski

Wisconsin’s Best Restaurants for a Road Trip | Eater Chicago

"Wisconsin loves its local custard stands and Kopp’s is one of the state’s most beloved. It’s often the first place that people who move from Milwaukee will visit upon returning home. Generations of fans can’t get enough of their thick creamy custard which pairs perfectly with one of their old fashioned cheeseburgers. There are three Kopp’s locations." - Titus Ruscitti

Kopp’s is a total classic. The portions are huge, honestly more than you can finish and everything feels super fresh. It has that old-school charm that makes the whole experience even better. Even though it’s always busy, they’re quick with orders and super efficient. The menu is simple, which I actually like no fuss, just good frozen custard and burgers. Prices are decent for what you get, and there’s something nostalgic about the whole setup. Oh, and the line of cow statues in the parking lot? Loved that little quirky touch. Definitely worth the stop if you’re in the area and craving something sweet.

Key Lime Pie Custard: Kopp’s was founded in Milwaukee in 1950, meaning they’ve been serving up jumbo size burgers and frozen custard for 70 years. Along with their everyday flavors, Kopp's offers two rotating flavors of the day. Key Lime Pie happened to be one of the flavors the evening of a friend's wedding and someone grabbed a couple quarts for a late-night dessert at the reception. As I'm not a fan of key lime pie in general, this is a flavor I would never go out and purchase on my own, but I thought I'd still give the custard a chance to prove me wrong. The large pie crust pieces found throughout are possibly the best I've had. I was blown away by how good they were! That said, the key lime custard was gross in my opinion, but like I mentioned, so is key lime pie. Way too tart for an ice cream or custard flavor. Avoid 🤮(unless you're a fan of key lime pie). This is a one star custard flavor, but I’m going to give Kopp’s four stars for all their other great flavors and burgers. Doughboy_Food_Reviews

I would usually get burgers and fries but tonight it was just a malt. I got the lime malt and it was excellent. The person I went with got the cherry shake and it was also good. Whether you're in Brookfield or Glendale, Kopps is excellent.

Such a cool place! Love the old school classic burger and shake vibe. There were at least a 50 orders that went out while we waited for our food. There is no indoor seating. You can sit outside on their cement patio on concrete steps. Busy place but they have a dozen workers on staff or more and they keep things moving along pretty quick! Great food! So delicious!! Will stop again for sure🥰

The shop was a bit busy but the wait was too long. The ice cream was rich and creamy. not too sweet. Will definitely be back.

This is a classic Milwaukee joint! I think you almost have to pay a visit here to understand:) the burgers & grilled chicken sandwiches are HUGE!! And so fairly priced. You can easily feed two people for under $20. It’s made to order, so don’t come when you’re hangry and impatient, because there’s usually it’s THAT good! It’s prepared pretty quickly and service is usually really good. No where to sit and eat inside - there are standing tables or go outside to sit on the stadium like concrete seating. Don’t miss the cows out back… they are pretty mesmerizing! This may not be gourmet, but it is classic, consistent, and so affordable! And then there is the ice cream - which might be the whole reason you come! Along with classic chocolate and vanilla there are two rotating and different flavors every day.

If you are lactose intolerant, this place isn’t for you 😄. Everything here is full of tasty cheese, butter and cream. We came on the wrong time of the day, there where 30-50 inside waiting for their food, one guy took away 12-15 bags of stuff and we ended up waiting over 20 minutes for our burgers, onion rings and fries. But it was worth the wait as everything was hot, fresh and delicious. The ice cream of the day was wedding cake and bourbon chocolate walnut, both so good.
