"Built as an aristocratic country manor in 1746, Kokkedal Castle was a private residence for much of its existence, hosting salons and parties for Copenhagen ’s elite. Restored and opened as a hotel in 2011, the castle is now one of Denmark’s most luxurious stays, set on acres of sprawling parkland along the Danish coast, just 30 minutes north of Copenhagen. With its manicured gardens, afternoon tea on the terrace, and 18th-century–inspired decor, it feels like that friend’s country estate you’ve just been waiting for an invitation to—if, that is, your friend has an excellent restaurant in the original cellars, specializing in Danish and French country cuisine, and a world-class holistic spa ready to cater to your every whim. To top it all off, thanks to the castle’s location, both Copenhagen and the region’s myriad other sights are within an hour or two’s reach, either by train or by car."
We spent a week at this wonderful hotel. Grounds and buildings are fantastic and made for a great experience. We stayed in one of the “superior” rooms in the Annex. Room was super quiet - I don’t think we heard another human while inside our room the entire week. The room was a good size for two adults, however the bed was very close to the wall on one side making it a tight squeeze to get in and out of need. No refrigerator in the room which was annoying but not a deal breaker. Room also had a controllable air conditioner unit which was unexpected and nice. Breakfast was the same spread each morning and was worth eating. Hotel is about a 15 minute walk on a paved pedestrian/bike path from a train station so that was super convenient. You don’t “need” a car if staying here but I would still recommend having one as it made getting around to places other than Copenhagen itself much easier. Parking at the hotel is free and was a bit tricky on the weekend evenings as the hotel was fuller. There is plenty of parking on the grounds but it’s a little chaotic and you may not be super close to your room. Not far mind you, but not directly in front of your building either. You won’t regret staying here.

Wonderful Hotel near Copenhagen. Room was amazing. Staff was extra polite and helpful. Grounds were beautiful. Breakfast was the best we had in DK. I would live here if I could. lol

We spent a weekend with friends and this was a great experience. We have been here before, some years ago, but the experience, like last time, was very good. The food is great both the dinner and the breakfast. The room was great, we stayed in the annex and if you like, this is a great area for taking a walk.

We’ve been here before and were a little disappointed this time about small things we are accustomed to: a fridge (there is now a gaping hole in the closet where it used to be), simple things like a cup for toothbrushes and a bag for laundry are now also missing. The breakfast maybe gorgeous, but we just want one bun, a cup of (amazing) coffee and an egg. €30 is outrageous. They graciously agreed to give us a thermos, but I do not yet know how much they will charge.

Nice location and grounds, but a mixed bag otherwise. (1) Weak drip from the shower in the room (second floor in one of the annexes); explained as ‘eco certification requirement’. (Never saw that in other hotels, and it’s not very practical for the guests). (2) Breakfast is budget quality yet steeply priced. There is really no excuse for that awful budget style omelet, lack of cheeses (a breakfast staple in Denmark), lack of edible fruit, too-dense-to-eat yoghurt, and the fact that each espresso cup is priced separately (good quality though it is). (3) No minibars in rooms. (4) No bath robes in rooms (we got them when we insisted) despite having bath slippers placed in rooms. (5) The policy of having to pay to access gym by the hour. (6) The hotel has two outdoor spaces with tables - yet breakfasts are served in the windowless cellar (the only people who enjoy outdoors meals are the staff, around noon every day - they know what’s good 😉). The management is aware of the deficiencies and go over and above to compensate for them when one gives feedback.

We were "lucky" that the main building's roof was being renovated, so there were fewer guests. The room we got was spacious and furnished with antique comfortable furniture and a direct exit to the park. The bed was big and comfortable, while the bathroom was quite small. The towels were enormous and heavy.|Breakfast is too basic for a five-star hotel, with no fish for guests who don't eat meat and a quite limited choice of bread.|The service is excellent and the staff were all very friendly and helpful.
