"At this year’s third-place finisher, the King George readers touted the 'wonderful location in the middle of Athens,' plus the hotel’s 'outstanding staff,' which guests described as 'courteous, professional, and prompt.' And after a long day of sightseeing around the city, the King George is a soft place to land, both figuratively and literally — the hotel’s 'great beds' were called out by readers as a particular highlight." - Travel + Leisure Editors

"King George Hotel The historic King George Hotel has the kind of glamorous gravitas found only in a royal residence. Open since 1930, the King George has hosted celebrities and dignitaries to Athens in grand style ever since, and became a member of Starwood’s Luxury Collection in 2013. Refined guest rooms and suites have herringbone wood floors and marble bathrooms, and might include a window seat or a private balcony. While the dazzling rooftop pool is private only for guests of the two-bedroom Presidential Suite, mere mortals can enjoy a similarly spectacular setting next door at sister property Grande Bretagne (guests can use both hotels' facilities). The King George has a small gym with Finnish sauna, and the lobby’s exclusive Valmont boutique has high-end cosmetics as well as a perfumery. Emphasis at the award-winning Tudor Hall restaurant is on seasonal ingredients and slow cooking, with local wines carefully chosen to complement the dishes. With a location right on Syntagma Square, views of the Parliament and Parthenon are a matter of course, and all of Athens is within easy distance."

"The King George is Greek through and through: Greek owned, rooms done up in local antiques and neoclassical moldings, and with stunning vistas of the Acropolis, the parliament building, and Constitution Square. Classical touches in the 102 rooms and suites—inlaid oak herringbone parquet, oil paintings, silk-damask curtains, and raw-silk bedcovers—coexist effortlessly with contemporary ones, including Bang & Olufsen TVs, Internet access, sophisticated lighting, and a minibar kitted out with goodies from Agreco, the nearby luxury grocer that’s made a swank cult of rusticity. Tudor Hall, the hotel’s restaurant, overlooks the Acropolis and boasts a Greco-French menu by galloping Gallic gourmet Alain Ducasse."

The hotel was expensive - more than I expected for Athens to be honest - but it truly delivered on all fronts. Check in was great, we received an upgrade as Titanium members, and received a good amount of information about the hotel and recommendations unsolicited. The room was classic but really well maintained with modern charging outlets next to the bed and a beautiful marbled bathroom (with great lighting). Service was exemplary throughout the hotel. The hotel restaurant - a Michelin star restaurant - was really very good, and the view of the lighted Acropolis in the evening was quite exceptional. The pool in the sister hotel next door was a good size for a city hotel.

This is a lovely, newly renovated hotel - the lobby is just plush, bed is so comfortable (only complaint is that the bed was too small, even in the deluxe suite it was a queen sized), service is great all around. The breakfast buffet was very good with lots of options and the Tudor restaurant for dinner, while very expensive, is absolutely delightful. I really enjoyed the meal but you are definitely paying western Europe prices Hotel is perfectly located

This is a really elegant (even if a little tired) hotel. The staff was excellent and anticipated lots of our needs and wants. Our room was small (4m x 4m) but felt cozy and accommodating. The bed was luxurious. It also had a beautiful marble bathroom. The food at the outside upper deck restaurant overlooking the Parthenon was very good, and the view of the City was also very nice.

The King George Hotel is a real jewel in the heart of Athens. We had a wonderful 3 night stay. The staff was very accommodating, professional, knowledgeable and friendly. We especially enjoyed the amazing breakfast every morning at the restaurant Tudor Hall on the 7 th floor. The views of the Acropolis and the Parthenon were stunning. The food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. We especially enjoyed our extremely kind and attentive waitress Anna! She was eager to please and made sure every morning that we experienced all the special Greek food on the menu. She really made certain that our day began with a very special attention. We would highly recommend this unique hotel.

We loved the King George! We just got home (Iowa) after a nine-night stay; it was a wonderful experience. Everyone at the hotel treated us well: Doormen, desk staff (Cleo) and concierge (Antoine), maids, waiters, everyone. We got room service twice and ate breakfast every day, but we never ate an afternoon or evening meal there as there are numerous casual (and cheaper) restaurants nearby. Every breakfast we overlooked the Acropolis. ||Location is ideal, it's right on Syntagma Square a few steps from the subway stop (red and blue lines). It's an easy walk to the Acropolis and the Plaka shops, though you can also take the subway. ||We paid about $600/night, more than we usually prefer to spend, but have zero regrets. We'd stay there again if we ever return.

We stayed here before and after a Ritz Carlton Cruise. The location is absolutely fantastic. Book a balcony room for sure. The changing of the guard at the Palace captured our attention every single time we were in the room and the views of the Acropolis are magnificent. The location is also quite convenient for sightseeing, shopping, and dining options. ||The 3 stars comes from the less than impressed experience we had with one very pompous maitre d, George. We returned from a day of sightseeing and shopping and stopped at the front desk to ask where we might get a glass of wine. They directed us to the (only) bar in the hotel that happens to be the Michelin starred restaurant. We went up to the bar only to be given the once-over by George and turned away because my husband was wearing shorts- now keep in mind, it was July and temperature reached the upper 90’s if not over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. We went back to our room; he changed into long pants and we returned. We sat at the bar and finally enjoyed the glasses of wine. We watched other couples arrive. Apparently baseball caps, tshirts, and jeans are appropriate dress whereas khaki shorts and a collared shirt are not. I think the whole experience was compounded by the fact that the front desk saw our attire and directed us to the bar- as well as the fact that George could have handled the whole situation with more tact and less arrogance.

We came for a short break and wanted somewhere central and comfortable. This hotel and its sister hotel next door ,Bretagne , are excellent. The staff are incredibly helpful and the rooftop bar/restaurant at The Bretagne is fantastic. |Service and cocktails are a dream after a days sightseeing.||We loved it and will be back
