Kickback Pinball Cafe

My first time in Pittsburgh and was brought to this awesome little spot on Butler St. Great selection of new and vintage tables which made for a fun hang on a rainy afternoon. You can grab a coffee or BYOB and make the rounds on some well maintained tables.

I never really considered myself a fan of pinball, but this place was so fun! I got their Oreo shake, which was amazing! Each game is anywhere from 1-4 tokens, which are a quarter. The more basic old fashioned machines were cheaper, and the newer, fancy modern machines were the ones that needed 4 tokens.

This place is the perfect location to lose track of time. The simplicity is amazing, small menu of food and plenty of cafe style drinks for anyones preferences. The pinball selection is very large spanning over two floors and price is very reasonable. Staff is also extremely friendly. I recommend stopping by to everyone!

I am a local high school senior photographer and owner of Stacey Lyn Boutique Photography. I recently rented the cafe for my Class of 2023 Senior Influencer Kick Off Party. We had THE BEST time! The manager, Colin, was great to work with and took care of our every need from the first time that I talked with him to schedule a date to the minute the last person left the event. The pinball games were so much fun to play and there were so many! The food was delicious (especially the milkshakes)! The place is a gem that I had no idea existed. My seniors and their parents had so much fun! If you are looking for something different to do with a group, check them out! You won't be disappointed!

They have a revolving selection which includes many recent stern tables as well as modern classics and throwbacks. They also serve food and coffee and drinks. Tables are average price per game, nothing over $1, you can play a good bit of pinball there for $5 if you’re a champ. It’s always a fun atmosphere within Kickback, they’re even open late and offer tournaments.

Came in to warm up and remind myself that pinballing is not a skill I have. Other than that hot chocolate was decent and the games were fun. They have a selection of games from new to old, most of the older ones are upstairs. You get little tokens to play they cost a quarter each. The place is laid back and a calm chill place to be with the exception of the pinball games playing. If you don't wanna play pinball you can sit down stairs and relax or upstairs and watch traffic. I'm fairly entranced by the traffic watching. Oh and did I forget to mention, it's byob.

I met an old friend when we both had a free two hours while in Pittsburgh. If you don't pay attention you'll miss it. The actual entrance is a donut shop and the cafe is downstairs. There seemed to be both food, alcohol, and N.A. options. There was only 2 other people there on a late Sunday night, so essentially we had the place to ourselves. We had some beers, chatted at a both, and of course played some pinball. I loved the Beetlejuice theme. Very cool and unique!

One of the coolest and unique pinball cafes l've ever been to! From the outside, I didn't expect it to be as big of a space as it was. Great selection of retro games that I haven't really seen anywhere else, and tokens can go a long way since most games only take 2-4. The front has seating and there is a lounge area upstairs as well. It's a perfect date night/hangout spot. Music trendy but not too loud. Baristas are friendly and helpful. My go-to is a espresso milkshake. But they also do BYOB--be sure not to put your drink on any machine. The machines are vintage and it can ruin them if you spill. Best place to park is north on 44th street. You can usually find a spot and it's not paid parking. For food, The Californian is the best-- but they have lots of snacks and drinks that are fun. I'm a regular now and Colin, Josh, Albie or Julie will take care of you. They are all awesome. Be sure to tip!

This place was really fun! Went during their soft opening and the owners were super welcoming, the drinks were good, food was tasty, and games kept up entertained! Would definitely come back next time I'm in Pittsburgh!

Lots of fun, we enjoyed root beer floats and playing pinball. Some of the machines were old school. There were several of the popular Star Wars themed pinball machines. The decor is charming, the floor is painted as a large pinball machine, with the tables painted as bumpers.

Retro Pinball Cafe serving drinks and loads of fun in the heart of Lawrenceville! The cafe has two floors of pinball machines that are affordable and entertaining! It's a cute date spot stop, considering all the other attractions nearby. There are machines that exchange cash for tokens, or you can ask staff at the desk! Pinball machines generally range from $0.50 to $1 per game. The drink menu is pretty standard with a range of coffees and floats. The decor matches the theme well and adds some quirkiness. tldr; food ?/5 service 4/5 interior 5/5

I can only rate the pinball as I came here to play pinball. I love pinball. Come here and play pinball. The coolest thing about pinball is the pinball. If you like pinball like I like pinball, you will have a good time I'd you arrive here and play pinball. Pinball.

REVIEW OF KICKBACK FOR PRIVATE PARTY: This was a pre-wedding get-together. They rented the second floor for the gathering. On the second floor, there are pinball machines and an area where my friend set up a taco bar (I believe the food was from another place and not Kickback). There were some tables set up also. KPC is BYOB, so my friend brought drinks for everyone. How we got there - We took an Uber to get to Kickback from our hotel where we were staying. It was a fairly busy area in terms of traffic. Kickback Pinball Cafe was a lot of fun!

Not the best pinball experience but I do appreciate the variety of games and the cute cafe combo. The aesthetic is great- especially on the first floor. The day that we were there lots of games needed attention. And they only had one person on staff to manage the games, the cafe and making change. I felt bad for the person. I'm not sure if this is a common situation. Pre pandemmy it wasn't this way.

Random fact- I am absolutely obsessed with pinball. It started with a high school performance of Pinball Wizard (& and a subsequent love of the album that inspired it). Its the only arcade game I am even marginally ok at. This pinball arcade was really well maintained, affordable, had decent food/ drinks and was staffed by really friendly helpful humans on the two days I visited. Overall, would definitely highly recommend/ go back. If I lived in Pitt, I would be here all of the time.

This place is so fun! We grabbed some sandwiches and enjoyed playing some pinballs. There weren't too many people on a weeknight, so we got to check out a lot of the machines. I like that their mandalorian machine actually played their theme song! They range from 50 cents to $1 per play, three balls to each play. This is a kid friendly place. It's also great to get some coffee and play a game of pinball with friends. I'll definitely be back!

Such a cool place and they have my favorite pinball machine of all time - Funhouse! I will be back and will spread the word!

Unique, fun, and so clever! I didn't get a chance to grab a drink because I was in & out relatively fast, but I was able to play a game or two of pinball after having dinner & drinks at Condado. This place is one of a kind, and I think it would be a perfect date spot! There are about 20-30 pinball machines in the entire place. There's an upstairs and a downstairs; downstairs you order something from the cafe, and upstairs you can play as many games of pinball as you'd like. They have a money machine that converts dollars into tokens, and you're set from there. Next time I'm going to make sure to grab a drink so I can do a full review, but as far as I'm concerned, I would come back here just for the pinball! I had an awesome time here with a few friends, and I'm really excited to show other people about this place.

Extremely nice staff, we walked in for a peak and was the coolest cafe I've been to! We're definitely going to have to come back in the morning for coffee and pinball!

First stopped here to do exactly what it says on the name of the business and "kick back" before hitting up one of the neighboring nightclubs on a night out. Decent but not particularly memorable menu of coffee, soda, and high-carb, high-calorie snacks. For anyone who is wondering, this place doesn't have a liquor license and does not serve alcohol (Pittsburgh is lacking in a decent barcade for what I understand are legal reasons, but that is a different discussion for a different time). There was only one thing which slightly put me off, which is that the staff and clientele nearly always appear to be mostly people in their teens or *at most* very early twenties. This at first made me feel a little weird and uncomfortable about going here by myself as someone in a slightly older age group. That said, this ultimately won't be a problem if you're simply there to play pinball and *not* to chat or make friends. With all that said, let's go into the rationale for the 4-star rating: that would be for this venue's main feature, which are its pinball machines. With a dollar for four arcade tokens and a relatively low price for beverages and snacks, this is a great place to have a great time on a relative budget. The Iron Maiden pinball machine (which plays a limited selection of classics by the band) is a must, as well as other science fiction titles like Alien Star. While I haven't worked out any sort of strategy on these machines yet, these are my go-to and have been a phenomenal introduction to the world of pinball. A quick note about disability issues/accessibility on two fronts: if you are epileptic or are neurodiverse (autism, ADHD, etc.) and prone to sensory overload from flashing lights and loud noises, this place may not be the most hospitable, as it is *very* noisy with quite a bit of quickly flashing images and colors. While this is not a concern for me personally, I know there are a significant amount of people (including arcade gamers, a category in which these demographic groups are well-represented) for whom this may be an issue, and this is therefore worth pointing out. The other is that the majority of machines are upstairs and are accessible only by staircase, which may present issues for the mobility-impaired. Aside from these issues, however, Kickback is absolutely worth your time if you need an inexpensive place to play games requiring focus and skill. This place is great and will get you addicted to pinball. And milkshakes! And avocado toast. It is BYOB though so don't forget a 6 pack!

Five stars for being open on a random Monday, having a chill, welcoming atmosphere, and offering a variety of affordable pinball games. Didn't try any of the food offerings this visit, but we plan to be back. Fun for the whole family, the young at heart, and/or someone who needs to blow off steam after work. Great first date spot, too, because you can talk about the games if conversation stalls.

A great selection and pinball games, well maintained. That's what I came for, and I was pleased with what I found. I didn't try the food here, so I can't vouch for that.

First of all, I like how Pittsburgh keeps on surprising me. I had no clue that Pittsburgh had a pinball cafe and would have never known if someone else told me about it. This space is fun. It's got the old school arcade vibe mixing with a chill cafe/work space vibe. Walking in you kind of think to yourself that there aren't many pinball machines, but then you notice stairs that lead up to a loft area. Tokens can be obtained at the counter or upstairs at a change machine. One token equals one quarter, but you MUST have tokens because that is only what the machines take. When you walk upstairs it's kind of an amazing sight. Nearly a dozen pinball machines line the walls as you first walk up there. Towards the front of the building is a loft opening that looks down unto the first floor. On the other side of the opening is more seating if you would prefer to dine or work up here. When we were here, it was a bit warm, but not overbearing. Some of the machines were down for repair, but a majority of them are in great working order, especially given the age of some of them. Be careful with some of the machines, they will gobble up your tokens, but not register. What you will notice is there is a whiteboard in the upstairs area that you can leave suggestions/complaints on to address any certain machine. Food and drink are available for purchase in here, but I did not partake in either. It is a fun place to spend some time and one I will probably return to in the near future.

Walking along Butler Street trying to kill some time, when I walked past Kickback Pinball Cafe. The sidewalk sign mentioning coffee & tea caught my eye, as I didn't know there was a coffee shop in this spot of Lawrenceville. That's when I looked to my left, and saw a beautiful sight... pinball machines. I obviously had to go inside. I ordered an iced red raspberry tea, which was delicious. I sipped on the tasty tea while I played various pinball games including Creature of the Black Lagoon, Iron Man, Family Guy, Twilight Zone, an old school Monster one and a vintage pinball game that looked like it was from the 60s or 70s. You must use tokens to play the games, which you purchase from the front counter. I had a blast playing the games and drinking my delicious iced tea. Not only is this place super cool, but the woman working behind the counter was SO NICE. Amazing customer service. I had no idea a cafe like this existed in Pittsburgh and now I am greatly anticipating my next return!

When I'm here I feel like a kid again. I loved playing pinball when I was just a wee one. I wasn't very good and I'm still not but boy do I have fun. I love this space and the variety of machines. Menu is pleasing with a variety of beverages and light fare. OMG I love the caprese sandwich as well as the limited time only jalapeño popper grilled cheese... And the habanero watermelon lemonade; inject it into my veins please.

Stopped in while exploring Lawenceville and Kickback Pinball Cafe was a great pitstop! We didn't get any food or drinks, but the menu looked like a good selection for lunch. They do not have alcohol, however it is BYOB so you could always bring your own which would be fun. The space has 2 floors of pinball machines that were pretty reasonably priced. The staff was also helpful when a machine ate some tokens and fixed it and provided new tokens with no questions asked. I think that Kickback pinball cafe is a fun place to do something out of the ordinary and would be great for kids and adults alike!

Atmosphere is very dated and the staff was very unwelcoming. The espresso was just okay and we were (rudely) yelled at for having our masks off while socially distant at our table/pinball machine next to open windows. I understand some places are more strict with masking than others and this place seems to be run with an iron fist. When we left the staff did not say goodbye or "Thanks for stopping in" after he screamed at us earlier. Cool concept but the staff and atmosphere will keep me from returning.

Pinball !!! Some downstairs, more upstairs. The games are in good condition. Nice Soda selection ! Looks like they had paninis and grilled cheese options. BYOB, they can store it and keep it cold for you, so that's nice.

This is one of my favorite places in Lawrenceville. I've only been here a few times but if I still lived in Pittsburgh I would totally go here more. The food is super good. They don't always have a ton of options, but it doesn't really matter because all the food is super good. It's never been super crowded when I have been there so you'll never really have to wait long to get your food. I've had a couple different kinds of sandwiches there and they're all been super awesome. It's a great place to go with like a new friend because there is an activity to do together on the pinball machines. So great!

Great place to go visit would recommend to anyone in the area. Unique place for any age group.

There is a great selection of pinball machines from old to new. They are all in good condition and set for a good play. Didn't have any food but it looked good. A unique place great for a change.

This place is a blast! A great spot for a fun afternoon, a date, or an outing with kids. There are two floors and a total of about 20 pinball machines. A variety of panini sandwiches/grilled cheeses are available for purchase along with coffees and sodas. You can BYOB for just a fee of $5 and there's a small fridge where you can store your beverages. Pinball games are played with tokens, which are 25 cents a piece. Games run anywhere from 2-4 tokens a play. I'm a big fan of the Star Trek: The Next Generation machine as well as the Family Guy machine. There's a great variety of game play! Overall, a really fun time!

Awesome spot for quick good coffee and the sandwiches looked great (although I didn't have one.) SUPER diverse selection of pinball machines and a lovely environment. Art all over the floor and walls with upbeat music, just an all around blast for the kids. Drinks were excellent, and staff was very friendly as well- he was very knowledgeable about pinball machines. Kids had so much fun they are begging me to come back!! They had classic Pittsburgh pops and super tasty chocolate covered espresso beans. I think I found my new favorite hangout in Lawrenceville. Highly recommend.

This is a very fun place where you can spend any amount of time. There are two floors of pinball machines, ranging from older to newer, with a variety of different themes. The food was delicious, but not extremely filling. There weren't a ton of food options, but there was still a decent variety. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. Overall this place was a great experience!

As an amateur pinball nerd, I'm always on the lookout for cool machines in cities I'm visiting. I took the opportunity on a recent Pittsburgh trip to explore a new neighborhood, and this was a convenient excuse to do so. It's nothing fancy, but the array of machines is awesome and so are the people running it. Prices to play are reasonable, and with only one exception, the machines I enjoyed were in very good working order. It's BYOB, and they have a coffee bar and nonalcoholic beverages on offer (including Mexicoke!).

Such a great place to have in Pittsburgh. As places like Dave and Busters don't have pinball anymore it can be difficult to find arcades with many machines. Having a dedicated location for it is wonderful. No idea what someone said about the byob price being high, it's two bucks per person that's nothing. A few of the machines were out of order but that's to be expected with how difficult to maintain pinball machines are. The payrange app is nice for the fancier machines. Will absolutely be back again and again.

Only the Beehive of the mid-90's can approach Kickback for the nirvana of pinball and cool dive in one package. The staff here, on an incredibly busy night, were very friendly and accommodating and made terrific sandwiches while enduring the chaos of the pre-Pinburgh event. I do wish the upstairs were a bit more, um, reinforced for the weight and stress, but under normal conditions there's plenty of space and plenty of pins. Nota bene to newbies (I am one), tokens are required. Best of luck to the new management - kudos for plunging in. (Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week.)

I took a kid there, one of my kids. I just don't remember if I took two or just one but that's irrelevant. The pin ball machines had little milk crates so little people could watch the silver ball fall wayside by their flippers. The food isn't anything to write home about but it's good enough, especially considering the price. I like this place.

I live right around the corner from this Cafe. I won't lie, I love me some pinball. I have been inside one time before, but just to look around. This time I came to hang out and to use the free interwebz. My fiance is in love with their coffee so he came along with me. He got a latte and I was really excited to try the raspberry lemonade. The barista even allowed me to have a pre-taste to see if I would like it. Lemonade is something that could be so many things, sour, too sweet, tart, etc. This blend of fresh squeezed fruit was perfect. Not to sweet, not to sour, perfect. Christopher's latte was also delicious. I am not the biggest coffee fan, but this one was pretty good! Now, why I came to the cafe was to use the internet. It worked, which is a good thing, but there were not many tables/comfortable places to sit and to work. It was also really loud with the pinball machines. Not the most productive place to sit and work. I got done what I needed but I would not recommend coming here to work. The pinball machines were also wonderful. It is a really nice place to come and hang out and maybe have fun with friends. It was more a hang out place than a get work done place. I would go back, but not to work!

Great coffee, amazing price. I just don't understand why it says open till 11 because after 10 all they serve is cold brew ?

This place is an absolutely gem in Lawrenceville. Friendly staff and patrons, tasty food/drinks (at very reasonable prices), and fun games. This place is a great option if you're looking to shake up your typical weekend going-out routine.

If you love pinball, this is the place to be. It took me back to my childhood. I seriously haven't seen a pinball machine in a decade or longer!! Not only do they have pinball, they also serve coffee and food. I think it's a great concept and a fun place to hang out to do something different for a change. The staff is pretty laid back and friendly too.

A friend and I stopped in here when walking Butler. A tournament was happening, so we watched a little. I've always been pretty mediocre at pinball but these folks were really good. We played a couple rounds too and mostly just ended up laughing at how terrible we were. This place is really cute; most of the machines are upstairs, which overlooks the first floor. They serve some pretty unique sandwiches, specialty sodas, and coffee drinks. Definitely a fun place to hang out!

Dipped in quickly on a 15 minute break for a grilled reuben sandwich. Got my food fast and it was delicious. Place is nice, outlets at every seat for those of us who don't like to unplug. I would go again! Would only be made better by the ability to buy liquor there!

This was a fun little place. The staff was helpful. I only dinged this place a little because walking in the ground floor decor isn't super inviting; it almost feels empty.

I really like the concept of this place but was disappointed when I finally came to check it out. Yes, there are a lot of pinball machines from different eras but quite a few of them were out of order. I'm not sure if they simply didn't have enough outlets or the machines needed maintenance but either way I felt the selection was lacking. The other problem with this place is that it's too sterile. The place was entirely too quiet and didn't seem to have much soul. This place could benefit from having some live music or at the very least some sort of stereo system playing an ipod throughout the establishment. I would also hope they're applying for some sort of liquor license as this place definitely needs to start serving cocktails and beer. All-in-all I would give this place a 2.5 but there is definitely potential! Quick Tip: Buy your booze ahead of time as this place is BYOB but the nearest wine store is a few blocks away. I'm lazy so I didn't find that walk to be pleasant.

I do like this place a lot. I've been in for pinball but more often I go in for the homemade lemonade. It's SO good! The habanero, watermelon and basil is the best! The last time I went in the service was poor from the woman behind the counter. Hopefully that's not going to be the new normal. The decor is so cool and really fits the neighborhood. It's definitely a unique place and I really hope that it's here for a while!

This place is pretty amazing all around. If you like pinball, you have to come here at least once. When I stopped in, it was pretty crowded, but I had no trouble finding a table to play. Each game is pretty affordable too. Their selection changes from what I understand. A few tables I saw last included The Walking Dead, Medieval Madness and several fantastic other tables. The drink selection here is nice, and whoever made my mocha did an excellent job. The drinks are affordable, too, so that's an added bonus. You won't see Starbucks prices here. Kickback has an excellent vibe to destress and have fun. Whether you want to game for hours, a few minutes or chill with a group of friends, this is the right environment for that. I look forward to spending much more time here in the future and snagging one of their sexy t-shirts.

What a hipster/cool place. You can get coffee or food and study and also play pinball machines. What a concept! I imagine that it would be fun to come here to study, then reward yourself for working hard with a game of pinball. The staff was super friendly and nice. I had the watermelon habanero lime etc. lemonade and it was SOO GOOD. It had a perfect kick to it. The games are kind of expensive...like 75 cents per game, some were only 50 cents. It had a very cool vibe. I also hear it's BYOB so that would also be a huge perk.

I have stopped by here twice now in the past couple of weeks. The first time was on a Saturday morning with my fiance for coffee and the last time was on a Wednesday for lunch with my father. Both times there hasn't been many people in the cafe which I find to be a shame. The inside of the restaurant is decorated whimsically as the floor is painted like the bottom of the pinball machine while the tables are made to look like bumpers. Besides all of that there are about 5 pinball machines with 2 of them being newer and 3 being of the older type. Whenever I stopped by with my fiance, I ordered an Americano as did she. The coffee was smooth and ended up tasting good without too much bitterness which I enjoyed. We also bought $1 worth of tokens (its frustrating to me that they don't allow quarters) and played the Adams Family pinball game which we both enjoyed. Whenever I went with my father I ended up ordering the squealer for lunch which consisted of ham, mustard, rosemary and I forget what else that came out on a 6"(?) bun pressed like a panini, I really enjoyed the taste of my sandwich, especially the subtle rosemary hints at the end. While both my dad and I thought our respective sandwiches were good, sadly neither one of us thought that the sandwich was big enough to be a full lunch, much less justify the price that we paid. Due to that we ended up stopping at a Wendys on the way home. Even so my dad and I ended up enjoying ourselves after spending about $5 on pinball (Addam's Family and Terminator 3) which is the real reason that we came. The bottom line for me is that I would definitely head back here again in the future. While I do not imagine that I would eat here again due to the high cost versus amount of food given, I did enjoy what I had eaten and can really see myself stopping here on leisurely Saturday morning for a Americano and game of pinball.

My kids and I learned about this place while visiting this year's replay fx. My kids have fallen in love with pinball machines. So for my daughters 8th birthday she chose the Kickback Cafe. We went for the pinball but then we got hungry. Instead of going to eat elsewhere we gave them a shot. And all 3 of us were surprised. The sandwiches were terrific. And very affordable.(plus you get a giant pickle) And the guy working was very easy going and allowed my kids to alter their sandwiches to fit their picky needs. Another bonus was with no smoking or alcohol sales they were allowed to stay past 9pm. Every machine was in service and worked like new. If you truely love pinball machines its got some of the classics. Plus a few new ones. They don't have a ton of machines. But the ones they have are worth the trip. The food was a nice bonus. In all it was a $30 night out with the kids. Cant beat that.

Very fun place to stop while in Lawrenceville! About 15 pinball machines, old and new, that range from 50 to 75 cents per play. If you love pinball, definitely stop by! Downstairs, there is a coffee shop with reasonably priced coffee, tea, and a small menu of sandwiches. The staff has always been very friendly as well.

What a change! My friends and I just stumbled into this place while walking around the neighborhood. I easily could have killed hours of time here. We didn't stay and eat, but would definitely consider it another time since it's also BYOB. It was also make a very creative date night!
