My first time here and I really loved it. Staff was super nice and welcoming. The place is beautiful and it’s dog friendly ( patio) We loved everything we ordered and it was all beautiful and delicious. Great place for sure.

I had the seasonal peach burrata toast today and it was incredible! I have also tried several other things on the menu for breakfast and lunch, sweet and savory and have never been disappointed. I absolutely love the staff here! The service is always amazing and the atmosphere is so positive. The patio is dog friendly and they are always the sweetest to my pups.

The food was quite good. I had the Marborough scramble, with chicken apple sausage, and really enjoyed it. The potatoes that it came with were great. We also ordered the brown sugar buttermilk pancakes to share at the table. These were good, but just kind of regular buttermilk pancakes. It was about a 40 minute wait on Sunday morning around 10:30 AM. The only thing we didn’t love was the service. Everyone who touched our table was very nice, but when we asked for things, they were always forgotten. A couple of times we had to get up and track someone down to get whatever we needed.

My absolute fav place for basically everything… vibes, energy, joy, happiness.. and also coffee, pastries (gf and vegan) healthy food and community! Nate is da bomb and always love that he remembers my order! This place is female owned and Lauren should run for mayor… :P the longevity of the staff and making it through a pandemic says a lot! If Ken Cafe had an ambassador program, I’d def apply! Love the is place thanks for all you do and how you lead this community!

Great spot! Got a frittata, a burger, a seasonal peach basil toast and two Mexican mochas. Everything was great! We asked for the mochas to be half the sweetness and they came out just right 👍 Good service and the place is cute both inside and the outdoor patio.

This place has been around forever and is just a super reliable lunch/brunch spot, everything's pretty solid. Servers are friendly and efficient. Inside is a little noisy but tolerable. But it's San Diego, ya clod! There aren't many days out of the year when sitting outside wouldn't be better. Try the espresso shake, if you've got the stones for it.

Kensington Cafe is a cute place to grab a coffee to-go or to sit down and enjoy a meal. Decorated with lots of photos in a wall, you're transported to a place with more of a retro feel. Staffed with lots of friendly, caring, and knowledgeable workers, the staff here makes you feel welcomed and at home. On my visit today, I ordered the Asada Hash Bowl without avocado. Overall, I would give this item 3/5 stars. For the price of $17, I thought the flavor was very lacking. The dish seemed under seasoned and I had to add lots of ketchup to get some taste on my dish. Also, the poached eggs were over poached in my dish so I missed out on a decadent yolk coating my asada hash. While the Asada Hash bowl may not be personally for me, I did try a bite of the Brown Sugar Buttermilk Pancakes and I thought this item was very tasty. The flavor was good and not too overpowering and the dish was the perfect sweet breakfast item. If I were to return, I would definitely try more of their pancakes. Kensington Cafe is a cute little breakfast nook filled with lots of nice people and vibes. With an extensive breakfast and cafe menu, I'm sure there's a dish for everyone here.

Super cute corner cafe and restaurant with great service and tasty food! I stopped by for a weekday lunch and enjoyed their half tuna sandwich and corn chowder soup combo. I also got to try their Pancake and it was seriously delicious! You can't go wrong with anything on their menu so be sure to check them out next time you're in Kensington.

Came here on a Wednesday and was seated right away. We ordered The Daniel and Pulled Pork Hash. The Daniel was okay. I didn't think there was anything special about it. The bread itself was a bit too hard to my liking even with the aioli sauce making some parts of it softer. The turkey itself was good but a bit dry. The sauce did help since it was dripping when holding it up to eat. As for the Pulled Pork Hash, I felt like the pork was way too salty. I remember having to ask for water refills several times. The potatoes tasted like regular potatoes. The sourdough was tougher than what I'm used to. Overall, I felt like the environment was great and the staffs were nice, but beware, street parking can be a tough.

Coffee was really good and the food was delicious! The chilaquiles could have used a bot more salsa but they were tasty. Would come back to try the French toast

Came here on a Wednesday morning and the place was pretty empty. The ambiance gives an old timey feel, with a nice view of Adams Ave. What was really nice was the Yelp check in with 20% off the entire order. It says for dinner, but the hours reported on Yelp don't include dinner hours. Nonetheless we still got the 20% off for brunch. The Daniel- Juicy bacon and plenty of aioli in between an Everything bagel. The bagel itself and the turkey however was a bit dry, so some bites will not be as good as others. 3/5 Pulled Pork Hash- Pork is juicier and more flavorful but is a bit on the saltier side. Not too much of a problem if mixed with the egg and potatoes. Sourdough bread was also on the dry side but there's butter. 3.5/5

I had a great experience at Kensington Cafe! The service was excellent, with friendly and attentive staff. I ordered the All American Dream breakfast sandwich, which was good, though I felt the eggs could have used a bit more seasoning. I also split the baked French toast, and it was fantastic--the streusel on top added a delicious touch. My iced coffee came with a refill, which was a nice bonus! Overall, it was a pleasant visit, and I'll definitely be coming back again.

A true neighborhood cafe. I already love Kensington, but Kensington Cafe is just the icing on top! I love meeting up with friends for weekday or weekend brunch here. They have a variety of savory goodies along with sweet treats. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Service is always great and there's a nice laidback environment going on here. Perfect place to just sit outside and people watch or cozy up inside! Parking is always pretty easy on the street around the cafe.

a post-op appointment necessitated a visit to San Diego. only four weeks since knee replacement surgery, I hadn't been cleared to drive so my seventeen-year old volunteered to do the chauffeuring. I finished mid-morning and since we hadn't eaten and were both hungry, we stopped at the KENSINGTON CAFE for breakfast. parking was a challenge. we had to circle the block several times to find a place in walking distance which was kinda important with my new-and-improved knee. wow. just wow. Wyatt ordered the BROWN SUGAR BUTTERMILK PANCAKES with butter and maple syrup and bacon, egg, and fried potato sides. apparently he was hungry. he raved about everything. I had the DANIEL (bacon, turkey, spicy aoli, and provolone on a toasted everything bagel) with a scrambled egg, arugula, and sliced tomato adds. the sandwich was perfect. the restaurant has a quaint, neighborhood vibe and service was attentive without hovering.

We really enjoyed all the options the cafe offered and we enjoyed everything we picked. Their coffee and espresso drinks were also very tasty. The staff was attentive and checked on us a couple of times to make sure everything was OK. They do have a pretty decent covered patio seating, but inside was a little tight, at least where we sat. I wouldn't recommend groups bigger than 6 or 7 because of that, but we did see a party of 6 seated comfortably in the corner. We also liked the location because we could walk around the main street and neighborhood afterward.

Kensington Cafe was AMAZING! Our server Samantha was so so sweet, was so attentive and got us everything we needed so quick! this was seriously the best brunch we've had on our trip to San Diego and so fairly priced as well! the inside is so cute and welcoming, we loved it! don't even think about going anywhere else in this area for brunch!

This was my second time trying this place & it's so good. The waiter was friendly & welcoming. The owner of the cafe is super sweet & kind! This cafe is homey & at a perfect location in the heart of Kensington. We got the brown sugar buttermilk pancakes with a side of potatoes & bacon, a peanut butter sandwich with fruit from the kids menu, & a bagel sandwich with eggs, avocado, & bacon. The food was delicious!! I really enjoyed eating here & would totally recommend it to others!

My friend and I decided to check out this spot for the first time. The barista was helpful in letting me find my seat. Our server did ok; she didn't give us the energy that she wanted to be there. Didn't smile and wasn't much helpful with the menu. Since the menu didn't have pictures, we were hoping for suggestions on the menu as it was a pretty dense list. I had ordered iced coffee but didn't like it. Their waffles were not bad for what the recipe was for; loved the presentation on that. Our server got my friends order wrong, so we ended up eating different times. I ordered the asada bowl to go for later and it was surprisingly good. It's not an exceptional cafe but it's a decent spot for breakfast. Noticed its a neighborhood cafe to casually meet up with friends or family for casual breakfast talk. Was $38 total, not bad, not bad.

The iced strawberry matcha is my favorite. Cute little spot in Kensington. The parking isn't the best and they get busy so order ahead.

Wow - this place! Visiting from out of town and we found this place close by to where we are staying. The service was impeccable- server checked on us many times. The pumpkin spice latte was the best I've ever had!! We got lots of fun things to eat and all for a reasonable price.

Okay okay - this place is a cute neighborhood spot that feels like you're part of the local SD crowd. We came on a Monday morning (9 am) during a long weekend and parking easy + seating. It definitely started getting busy as we left! I opted for the vegan breakfast burrito and the cinnamon roll pancakes. I am a fan of the cinnamon roll pancakes and it reminded me of another favorite breakfast place, Kimmie's! The vegan burrito was also very filling and had beans and vegan egg(?) I think it was egg? Overall, I enjoyed my breakfast and the homey feeling it had and will come back for that early bird breakfast grind!

Got a bad impression right off the bat... My boyfriend and I were the first people in line and one of the hostesses completely ignored us and claimed the blonde girl behind us was first and asked where THEY wanted to sit before us. Very rude. I can't help but feel that they wouldn't have overlooked us if we looked like them. The food was surprisingly decent. I ordered the pulled pork Hash and my boyfriend got the cali burrito and we both enjoyed our meals, just wish they had some Cholula hot sauce. Furthermore, this is definitely one of those places that claims to put an aïoli on top of everything but it's really mayo so be warned. Overall their menu is very huge so they have a little something for everyone and our server was very nice. The tables and the restaurant itself were pretty small so I wouldn't recommend coming here with a large party. Definitely a more intimate vibe. Pricing wasn't so bad either. Before tip out bill came out to about $36 which was nice. Not sure if I'll be back just off of initial experience, this was my first time eating in Kensington and it wasn't the most welcoming vibe but I could always change my mind if I give it some time.

Came back today with husband. I got the roasted veggie bowl this time around - it came with kale, quinoa, poached egg, pesto and Parmesan, and I'm forgetting what else, but it was filling and delicious. Husband got pancakes with bacon and scrambled eggs. We shared the pancakes and agreed that they're the best ones we've had in a while. Soft and fluffy with edges thinly crisped. It was like eating a funnel cake! Now that pricing has gone up everywhere, this breakfast diner is pretty much on par with pricing everywhere else, so it'll now be in our rotation of places to enjoy within walking distance :)

The Kensington Café produces amazing food. Today I ordered the hash, I just remembered to take a picture after I was done eating half of it, lol. The eggs were cooked just right. The guacamole was tasty. I asked for a little onion. They did exactly that. The bacon was crispy. All in all I'm happy with my bowl. I've eaten at times at the café, where the service is pretty quick. The atmosphere is nice, it's always busy and I definitely return to the café from time to time.

Kensington Cafe is a cute neighborhood cafe on Adam's Avenue in the charming area of Kensington serving caffeinated beverages, breakfast dishes, lunch sandwiches and salads, beers, wines, mimosas, and cocktails. 5/5 Service: friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. 4.5/5 honey lavender latte: hot, shot of espresso sweetened with honey, lavender syrup (could not taste the lavender) and frothed with creamy whole milk 4/5 pulled pork hash: soft scrambled eggs over pulled pork and hash with a side of sour dough and butter. My friend had the vegan breakfast burrito, and liked it so much I unfortunately did not get to try it. 3/5 parking: there is no dedicated parking lot, but adjacent street parking can be found in the charming streets of Kensington.

Love this spot! We were on a time crunch recently and looking for something good. We found Kensington Cafe and decided to give it a shot. Our server was so great! She's the reason I've started trusting recommendations because her's was so good lol. I was deciding between a few items but told her sorta what I typically like and she gave me the best recommendation. I'll be heading back there soon solely for "The Daniel". The everything bagel that made "The Daniel" sandwich was delicious and the spicy aioli took it up a notch. The "Veggie Breakfast Bowl" was pretty good, honestly nothing too special but still a good choice. It's hearty, and I recommend getting a side of their aioli with it. "The Marlborough" scramble was great, the sausage was a great addition so I recommend adding that for an extra couple bucks.

Pretty good, not all-star San Diego but certainly an all-star neighborhood eatery. Perfectly suited for Kensington. Signs of class, touch of weirdness. Food here is sound. The eggs were average but my hash and my wife's pancakes were delightful. The potatoes in my has were crispy and light, the poached eggs were so good. Coffee drinks were great too. Light and never too sweet. Server was friendly, speed was a little sluggish but it was nice in general.

Breakfast was absolutely amazing-first time here and we will make the trip to come back. Hats off to the cook-it was nice to have a breakfast with everything cooked properly and the eggs were perfect.

walkable from my airbnb, it was absolutely perfect!!!! ‍ staff was so friendly and down to earth and the food was plentiful. the prices were higher than we expected coming from manhattan but it was really still a nice vibe and pleasant experience.

I recently visited Kensington Cafe in San Diego and overall, I thought it was a pretty decent spot. While it's not necessarily a destination I would go out of my way for, it's a convenient place to grab lunch when I'm in the area. The menu features a selection of sandwiches, salads, and coffee offerings that are satisfying and filling. While the food itself wasn't particularly memorable, it was still pretty good, and I appreciated the convenience factor. Overall, if you're in the area and looking for a quick and easy lunch spot, Kensington Cafe is worth a visit. I think I've seen them on the delivery apps too. While it may not blow you away, the food is solid and the atmosphere is cute and inviting.

Finally got a chance to stop by this cute cafe! To drink we the enjoyed honey lavender with oat milk latte and a mocha with oat milk latte both For eats we had the avocado toast add hard boil egg and a side of bacon As well as the Milano sandwich with a side salad. Service was great and the tunes were nostalgic.

Excellent menu everything is delicious. Great vegan choices great service. The restaurant is always incredibly clean. Really enjoyable atmosphere such a friendly vibe.

This is a cute small place in the heart of Kensington, I was a party of one on a Saturday 11am ish, wait time to be seated was ok. They sat me outside, I had a nice view of dogs walking by. I looked at the menu and decided what I was getting, time went by, and by, and by. I had to ask the hostess if my waiter knew I was outside. Then I come back sit down and my waiter comes out, seems as they had forgotten about me -_- I ordered a water and a milk to go along with my order. She brings out milk and water which surprised me because the milk was for my pancakes after my food so why would you bring out the milk before the food? The chilaquiles where very disappointing. Very small plate not worth $14 and no protein, that is extra. The pancakes were good but not fluffy, I left wanting more.

I love this spot. Been going for a couple years now. I think the appeal is the corner spot with yummy breakfast and very friendly staff. I don't think it's the most amazing or delicious brunch spot in San Diego but it's got a spot in my heart as a cozy sweet place I like to go with friends to just have a lazy morning. The vibe of the place and the staff make the ratings high. The pulled pork as a meat to any breakfast dish is a must. I like the Adams ave sandwich. My husband always gets the honey lavender latte. Post workout - a few folks wanted to eat (healthy-ish), so a quick search on Yelp, I found Kensington Cafe. The menu had a lot of variety, which seems to accommodate different tastes buds. Kensington Cafe is located in Kensington area of San Diego. According to their website, they are noted as a "neighborhood cafe" and "strive to make everyone feel at home". I visited Kensington Cafe around late June 2021. There was about 8 of us - and they put us in outdoor seating. For this cafe, you have to order at the counter inside the store, and then food will be brought out to your seat when it's ready. I tried their "Tree Hugger" scramble (which includes spinach, mushroom, tomato, and feta cheese). NOM NOM NOM. ENJOY!!

My friend and I came along this place on a random Saturday and there no wait! we sat down inside by a window and service was quick. We both ordered the lox bagel and it was SO GOOD. of course I had to throw on some chalula hot sauce :) We also had some bloody marys! super good! I would definitely return to Kensington Cafe, its a small cozy spot, not very crowded at all. only negative thing is parking can be a bit of headache but I think its worth it!

Yo this place has some top tier service. I came here on a Saturday after hiking with my youth group and they accommodated for our large party of people which kept changing in size (bcuz some of our group left and then new ppl came LOL). Even though we lowkey drove them nuts with how many ppl were in out party, they were sooo sweet and were able to accommodate for our group of 12. Jessica was our server and has excellent customer service skills. She's super friendly and funny and she makes you feel like you've been a long time customer even tho it was our first time at this spot. She recommended a variety of drinks to our group and we all loved what we got. The spicy strawberry Italian soda is delicious and had real strawberry chunks/purée at the bottom. I got the Adams Avenue, added turkey, and got a extra green goddess dressing with fries and mannn it was sooo good. I feel like most breakfast spots I've been to have horrible sandwiches but this one was filling and refreshing. The food & drinks came out fairly quick for our group and I was surprised considering we were 12 ppl and it was a Saturday morning at 10am and packed. When we come to visit our daughter, we are always wanting to try different places. So glad she recommended this place. Super cute restaurant, friendly service and the food was amazing. We will definitely be back!! I had the Honey Go Nuts Waffle and it soo good. Loved the candied walnuts.

As a vegan who has had many vegan burritos: I'm not a fan of their vegan breakfast burrito. It's mushy inside. Mystic Mocha's is way better

This cafe is little gem in Kensington. It's always very busy but the servers are friendly and kind. After finding out I have an egg allergy, brunch has never been the same. However, Kensington Cafe has Just Egg substitute so I can enjoy having a savory breakfast again! Their menu is extensive so most people will be able to find something they enjoy. My husband also enjoyed his coffee there.

Good service everyone is very kind. The space is also very clean. Food is also pretty good, the only thing I didn't like was the lemonade. It wasn't real lemonade, it was like an artificial lemonade powder put into water. I feel like it should be disclosed to whether it's lemonade made from lemons or artificial lemonade.

Food is amazing and coffee is great. They are very friendly and service is really good. This is just for people with hearing issues. It's loud inside and music was also loud so between the two was really hard to have conversation. Will definitely go back but will sit outside. It's great getting old. lol

Good diner with good food. Just average. The hash was a bit salty for my taste. Loved the potatoes in there but I do love potatoes so anything with them and I'm a fan. I wasn't hungry so I didn't get anything to eat (boyfriend got the hash) I got the mimosa. Although pretty strong for a mimosa I didn't really get the Carmel flavor. Pretty much tasted like a pineapple mimosa to me. Service was good and love how dogs are welcome on their outside patio. As you can see my dog photo bombed the mimosa picture. Ha ha

We are trying different breakfast places around town instead of always going to the same spots and sorry to say we won't be back to Kensington Cafe. The good was that it's not very busy for a Saturday morning. Cute indoor decor and plenty of outdoor seating. Also menu had great sounding food and drink options even vegan dishes and quality drink syrups. Unfortunately the food was just ok not very flavorful and not anything you couldn't put together at home for much less. Also it came out cold and fruit was not fresh. The most disappointing thing was the unfriendly staff. We didn't feel welcome or appreciated. Very disappointing breakfast experience for such a beautiful part of San Diego.

The perfect brunch spot! Service was amazing, they kept topping my coffee very generously (my server knew I needed the extra caffeine that AM haha). The food was yummy and I personally liked that they had a "can have your scrambled eggs wrapped in a tortilla" option for free because I wanted a breakfast burrito, just not the one they had on the menu. We sat outdoors because the weather was spectacular but the ambiance inside seemed nice as well. All in all, 5/5 and would come again for the service and ambiance!

Ordered açaí bowls. The bowls were usually tasty but today they were essentially melted popsicles - chunks of ice and syrup. It was not a normal smooth acai mixture. Anyhow the only reason I'm posting is for feedback for improvement. They're pretty pricey to not receive fresh bowls. Maybe it was a one off.

Great customer service, food always tastes great and really good prices. Tried their seasonal salad this time and my go to coffee the Honey Lavender latte. I usually get this cold but tried it hot and it's honestly my new obsession. Everything was light and refreshing. I would recommend their Amazon bowl (açaí bowl) with fresh fruits and homemade granola. Their hash bowl for breakfast if you are a vegetarian. If not ask for a side of apple chicken sausage. You won't regret it. Their Cali burrito it's a breakfast burrito is a good filling choice also. Definitely a perfect satisfying option for breakfast with everything you want. A savory breakfast choice but light.

My wife and I have been going to Ken Café and their sister restaurant, The Haven Pizzeria, for years. Their delicious food, kind staff, and involvement in the Kensington community is what makes Ken Café our go-to brunch spot and Haven our favorite lunch or dinner date location. When we got engaged we wanted to have a low key legal ceremony with family and a small cocktail-style reception with family and friends. It was important to us that we stay in the neighborhood and that we choose a location for the reception that meant a lot to us as a couple. When we reached out to Lauren and Lisa to see whether hosting the reception at Haven could be an option, we were met with the excitement of two close friends. At our first meeting, Lauren and Lisa closely listened to our vision, asked great questions, and walked us through the steps of hosting an event with them. We already had a good feeling going into the meeting, but by the end, we knew that this was exactly what we wanted. To accommodate the size of our group (that grew to 80 attendees!), we decided to hold the reception after hours at Ken Café and to cater food from Haven. Lisa graciously offered to create an assortment of decorations, including crafting beautiful floral and light centerpieces. Lisa also patiently walked us through a thorough tasting of appetizers, salad, pizza, pasta, and dessert, ensuring we could work around the many food allergies found within our attending party. Lauren, Lisa, and the Haven/Ken Café team absolutely went above and beyond! When we arrived on the evening of the reception, we were awestruck to see how all of the thoughtful ideas came together to create the perfect night. Every one of our guests raved about the food, drinks, decorations, and staff. Parker, Chelsea, Meg, and Rocky who worked the event are the textbook definition of "dream team." The entire team somehow elevated an already perfect day. Everything was flawlessly set up. We had a mix of the café indoor and outdoor tables with chairs as well as high top tables. Lisa ensured that the sound system was ready for our reception playlist. Parker tracked down scotch tape to surreptitiously tape down a few outdoor signs to keep them from blowing away in the breeze. Chelsea and Meg even checked in with me and my wife throughout the night to see if we needed drink refills! And Meg did a spectacular job creating fresh flower arrangements. We are so thrilled that we had Lauren and Lisa to work with in the lead up to the event and that we had Lisa, Meg, Chelsea, Parker, and Rocky to create a seamless party. We had heard that the wedding day can be a hectic, crazy blur of a day. But this was not the case at all. The Ken Café/Haven team made everything easy, affordable, and a TON of fun. There are not enough stars in a review to accurately illustrate just how incredible this team is. They put so much care into coordinating and hosting our event. We cannot thank them enough!

Brought my neighbor here as a thank you for pet sitting. Sat on the outside patio in the corner where it was sunny on a chilly day. Great food and service! Jessica P., our server, was very hospitable & friendly!

Awesome place for a quick brunch or lunch! Came here on a Sunday around noon/1 for brunch with a girlfriend. We were quickly seated outside and a friendly server brought us water upon request until our assigned waitress could get to us. Food came quick and was delicious.. great value for the price. I had a breakfast bowl and my friend had a salad.. both were generous portions and we both had leftovers. I would definitely come back again for a nice, quick, casual lunch.

Failed crossover between classic American dining and San Diego hipster cafe. If you want bacon and eggs you're better off at Sunshine Pancakes. If you want coffee and croissant go to Lestats. If you want watered down Chilaquiles you might be in the right place. Update: It looked like they replied to my review and then took it down. Change of heart on their part? Also, you can find another picture of Chilaquiles from another reviewer and see how much better it looked than mine. I was shafted! Lol Oh well. I just won't go back.
