I stopped by 2 shave ice spots today in Kailua and this one exceeded the other immensely! Great flavor options and Steve, who was running the joint was super friendly and helpful. They have way more than just shave ice, a lot of cool merchandise also. Mahalo!

Besides being a charming and interesting shop with unusual objects & gifts, Kailua General Store has the best Shave Ice we have ever had. Great home grown and home made flavors by the owner. We had lilikoi (yellow passion fruit), coconut and lychee nut. All delicious! Can’t wait to come back!

The best place to get Shave Ice in my opinion but that's not all this store has to offer. If you need fishing supplies they've got it. How about some local gifts for family in the mainland they got it, guys need new shaving creams, razors, balms or hair products they got that too. Just go have a look and you'll be happy you did.

Ever since we discovered the shave ice here last year, this has been our go-to for shave ice in Kailua. The owner is down to earth, the prices are down to earth, and the shave ice is better than 'that other place' that Obama likes to go to. In addition to their stellar shave ice, they also have a lot of locally made items, and a cool selection of die-cut stickers, including the '967tree4' sticker that you see on a lot of cars in Kailua.

I stopped by here with this past Wednesday afternoon with my wife and her parents. My wife and I had just kayaked to the Mokes and back and were looking for some refreshing shave. Our yelp search turned up the Kailua General Store and so we headed on over to it. The store itself is rather small with a bunch of random items for sale. Then near the back they have a whole section with fishing gear and tackle and then a second counter for shave ice. As we often do, my wife and I decided to split a large shave ice and went with the lilikoi and coconut flavors. At Kailua General Store, they make your shave ice almost like a snowball or snow cone because they put it in a cone shaped cup. However the ice is finer than those and more like a shave ice. The flavors here are pretty cloying sweet which I can't say that I am huge fan of. I mean that works for some people but I like a bit of pucker with my lilikoi more than overly sweet and definitely prefer natural flavors. With that being said, the ice was refreshing and my wife and I made short work of it. The bottom line for me is that I probably would not stop by here again in the future. Yes the ice was refreshing but I wasn't a huge fan of their syrups.

Great flavors from real fruit. Nice guy running the place. A bench to squat outside while you have your shave ice. Go try the chocolate across the back parking lot as well.

Super local kine shop that sells random things like fishing gear, hair gel, and stickers. There's also a lil shaved ice stand which I thought was really cute. A chill worker just chatting with his friend while fixing his fishing hook, never bugged us while we browsed around, which was great.

Super shave ice spot with housemade syrups (lillikoi is a must!). Figuring out where to pay after you get your shave ice can be a little confusing but don't sweat it, just savor your sweet treat and mosey back in afterward with cash or a credit card.

I'm a huge supporter of small local businesses. I usually come here once in a while for small fishing supplies. Yes fishing supplies (it's a "general store"). Also to be found are lots of items that you wont find in chain stores or any stores really. From everyday use items to souvenirs. Plus they have shave ice! Housemade flavors you cant go wrong. Got a mix today of Housemade Ginger, Guava and Strawberry for my pops (1st time there). He was very happy ate it fast and was raving about how fresh tasting the ginger was (no artificial). If you're in the area give them a try.

Great coffee, beer & wine selection. Wonderful deli in the back and overall great find for keepsakes like coffee mugs, sweatshirts etc. one of my fav stops in Kailua!

Dashed in here to grab some local food products and was pleasantly surprised to find that their small shop is stuffed full of local goods. More non-food goods than anything else, but this is still a great spot to drop in if you need gifts or just want to shop local. Parking is metered on the street but it's Kailua so it's not that big of a deal.

Cute souvenir store with yummy shave ice! And only $2 for keiki size vs. $4.75 @ Island Snow. We'll be getting our shave ice here from now on.

I just found out they do knife sharpening services and am so glad I did! My kitchen knives were dull as doorknobs but KGS got them back into shape. Service was on time and a good price. I am glad to have a trusted local resource to take care of this for me! Of course, we already knew KGS was the best place for Kailua kine stickers (967tree4 etc), all kinds of local products, fishing gear and of course shave ice! Just glad to have another great reason to visit.

Cute shop with a bunch of local trinkets. Lots of interesting and fun things to check out. Fishing gear. Shave ice. Musubi. Yum. Excellent customer service. Parking is street meter parking on kuulei rd. Fivestar rewards program here. Easy to use and free. Lots of local businesses using this program so sign up if your not already and get rewarded for shopping.

Cute family owned store front that is a must-visit for authentic, soft shaved ice with not overly sweet syrups. We ordered a large for $3.50 (3 flavors) and enjoyed the lychee (a must-try), POG (because who can resist passion fruit, orange, and guava), and lilikoi (a special flavor but a little too strong for my tastes). They also sell some cool souvenirs like kailua zip code shirts, car stickers, and trucker hats, English/Hawaiian kids books and macadamia nut butter, flip flops (locals brand and rainbows), fishing gear, spam musubi, and sandwiches.

We've been coming here for years and years and have been to many, many of the rest. While many have "additional treats to add", for just a great shave ice we think this is the perfect place!

I love this place! Where else can you get custom stickers, hats, and shirts done, then walk around and find 10 other things you never knew you needed! Mark White Fishing Lures, Andy's Bueno Hot Sauce, camping supply, and a musubi to go! Highly recommend a stop in!!!

Came in to browse, but mostly to get shave ice. Kind service and great experience all around. And the best shave ice we've had on Oahu. We like to avoid added colors and such, so we went for the house-made lime and lilikoi flavors. Did not disappoint! So tasty, sweet but not cloying, and the fluffiest melt-in-your-mouth snow. Both the 6 year-old and the adults were very happy. This one is bookmarked for our next visit to Oahu!

Owner was rude and acted as though it was an imposition to serve us shave ice. Must not enjoy tourist business.

They moved to a new location, right across of Kailua elementary school. Street parking. Once you enter the store, you will find a lot of their great things from their other location, including the shave ice ! The lady who helped me was very helpful and friendly, wish I had more time to browse the store. Maybe on my next visit!

Great snowflakey shaved ice! Be sure to get ice cream on the bottom! And try the many all natural and also neon flavors!

After reading the glowing Yelp reviews my friend and I stopped here while passing through Kailua specifically to get shaved ice. I'm very puzzled with the many 5-star reviews raving excellent customer service. Honestly, that wasn't our experience. There was no one to great us, and when someone did he seemed annoyed with having to serve us. The price was reasonable ($3 for a "baseball" sized shave ice) but the service left a lot to be desired and I didn't find the product any more special than other shaved ice that I've tried on Oahu.

I love cute little authentic shops. I totally didn't see the shaved ice here but I hear its good. I picked up a bunch of touristy and local stuff here to bring back to the city. Store like this make me happy.

One of my favorite places to shop for goodies to send to family who miss home..home being Kailua!!!! Steve and Mona are always smiling and happy to help and offer suggestions...Ask for punch card and earn discounts for future shopping trips! I love to get the 967tree4 stickers and the I LOVE Kailua shits! I bought my mom some books and even got a Kailua General Store shot glass for a good friend. I tell you there is something in there for every one, including the kids!! Candies and toys to their delight!! Don't forget to get your shave ice...so many delish flavors.... This is a must stop whenever you are in Kailua or just make the trip from wherever you are YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU DID!!!!

Super soft shave ice. The kids and my wife devoured the cones. The flavor was sweet but not too syrupy. They also have a lot of cool souvenirs. I probably will return to buy a big beach hat before we leave the island.

Great place to get a shave ice. Steve is friendly and will keep you entertained. The ingredients are fresh and unique. They had fresh squeezed lilikoi last time I was there. The seating is comfortable with a nice view of the marsh. The store itself sells all sorts of great things. I bought two hydroflasks to take back home along with souvenir shot glasses for my entire family. Bottom line: It's a must visit when you come to Kailua. Grab a shave ice and local products to take back to the mainland.

The general store in Kailua is the only place that delivers unique East Oahu products. I go for the apparel that best represents my world view as a naturalist. Also, they get kava-chocolate and hand-made sling shots for take care of da pesky Mynah birds who try for cockaroach your plate lunch leftovas. Da shave ice is winnahs too! Mahalo Steve-o

A fun shop with touristy things, local stuff, and a shave ice stand in the back. The shave ice was good, but there is better out there. The lady behind the counter was really friendly.

Saw some reviews on Yelp and stopped by for last minute souvenir shopping for my wife. Owners were friendly, we came in 30 minutes before they closed on the way to dinner at Haleiwa Joe's. I like the neat toys and trinkets section.

This store is so great and has an amazing selection. We always get the shave ice and my fav flavor is the house made Iilikoi. I buy slippers, kids books, towels, tote bags, reef safe sunscreen, candles, men's shaving supplies, sunglasses, hats and shirts and more. Check out this shop and you will be sure to find what you are looking for and so much more.

This review is for the shave ice! It's delicious, uses homemade syrups, and not very expensive compared to other Kailua shave ice places (I'm looking at you, The Local.) There are a few other shave ice places in Kailua now but the one I keep coming back to is Kailua General Store. They moved a couple months ago to a new location closer to the 7-11 but it's street parking only unless you park in the lot in the back.

I just got my knives sharpened by Steve and they are fantastic!!! It's so much safer to cook with sharp knives! He sharpened them quickly and for a great price. It's hard to find people to do this service so I was psyched to find it at the Kailua General Store!!!

I always find myself stopping by here whenever in the neighborhood, usually I only walkout with a shave ice but just like looking at the small eclectic items he brings in. Fishing gear to Italian hair products, old fashioned shaving razors like my dad used and I havent seen sinceI was a kid, cool T-shirt and African carry-all baskets. worth a stop

Love this gem of a store! In a time where stores in Kailua are catering to your average tourist and carrying the same old stuff, Kailua General Store shines by being original and downright adorable. The items they have range from vintage toys and goods to Hawaii/Kailua apparel that's not embarrassing to wear in public. You can also cool down with fantastic shave ice made with a smile. I highly recommend this store for any gifting needs, get your butt in there and get the goods for all the sad folks suffering back on the mainland.

We had shaved ice here, and Motsumoto's and at the Polynesian cultural center. This place was by far the best. Very fluffy, you could add ice cream, lots of flavor choices, but just get POG, it's the best! $2 for a small was a generous size. And you can get yourself a Hawaiian trucker hat while you wait.

Loved this cute little place...and absolutely, hands-down, the best shave ice we had anywhere on the island.

It was truly one of the best shave ice that I ever had. It was delicious and they make their own syrups. The store has lot of neat things worth checking out. The prices are very reasonable too. I bought a little toy for my son fully expecting that I will be charged an arm and hey leg, but that was not the case. I got to talk to the owner, Mona Who was really nice.

What a gem in the heart of Kailua Town! Even as a life-long resident, I find treasures every time I visit this popular tourist spot. We stop in for an onolicious truly "shaved" ice-kine shave ice (not the gravelly ice from snow cone places!)...and my daughter finds books by local authors, my husband gets fishing gear and other treats...and those of you born before the turn of the century may find some fun throw-backs you haven't seen or thought of in decades! Trip down memory lane meets a glimpse into old Kailua. Steve at KGS prints all their logo gear (cool hats and bags to name a few!) and he offers printing for my company logo wear and promotional items...all in the spirit of aloha and with excellence. Pop in for a peek and you'll be sending gifts home...they also offer shipping services directly from the store...who does that!? Anyway, I'm a huge fan and I was not asked to write this review. I just felt it was well overdue. Mahalo Steve and Kailua General Store for keeping a small part of Kailua...still "Kailua".

We went here for the shave ice. Out of the 3 places we went to in Kailua for shave ice, we ranked it 2nd. Definitely a good price, flavors were good, and the size was perfect. Only downside that my kids mentioned was that you could taste the wood spoon.

Store is great. Got lots of stickers and T-shirts to take back to the mainland. They also have tank tops for females that my wife really likes. The hydroflask collection is probably one of the best on the island. I bought 4 of them from Kailua General Store to take back to work. The shave ice is awesome and it's centrally located in kailua. Great place to sit down and eat shave ice and drink a juice after a long surf session. Shave ice herein cheaper and better than anywhere else. Highly recommend visiting this store and checking it out. Great little kailua shop and local business. If you are in the neighborhood check it out.

Stayed in Kailua in 2015 and wanted a shirt specific to this location because we loved it so much. Unfortunately, so many places only sell generic, tourist type shirts. I'm so grateful to have found this store.. Most items in this shop are not cheap; but I think my shirt was worth it.. It says "96734" (zip code) on the front chest area and it says "Kailua general store" on the upper back area (not too big). Nothing gaudy and obnoxious.. Simple and relaxed like Kailua itself

Shave ice Is yummy! This is a cool place to find little gifts and trinkets for friends, family, or treat yourself. The people are very nice and there is always something cute I want to buy. Most recently I got my son a Hydroflask and he was stoked. I recommend stopping by if you are in Kailua.
