"The hotel of choice for Sapporo visitors who want stellar city views and easy access to shopping and food, the Hotel Nikko Sapporo is located on floors 23-34 of the JR Tower, the tallest building on the island of Hokkaido. The Tower tops the main train station, and includes a shopping center, an observation deck, a branch of department store Daimaru, and a dedicated ramen restaurant complex. The hotel itself offers French fine dining, a casual European-style cafe and bakery, a buffet restaurant with live jazz music, and traditional Japanese cuisine. The full-floor spa pipes water into its thermal pools from 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) and can be visited for just bathing or for beauty and body treatments. The guest rooms’ main attraction are the views, but don’t lack for comfort or style."
First the good part. Great location, attentive staff and concierge and good breakfast. The western style breakfast is much better with a lot more choices than the Japanese style breakfast. It includes plenty of Japanese food anyway. Now the bad part. The room is ridiculously small for standard room unless you pick a corner room. You have no place to put two check in suitcases unless you place one on the writing table. The furniture and fixtures are cheap fiberboard type like IKEA stuff and it actually will be an insult to IKEA to be compared with it. The room runs north of $400 in summer and I assume it will be higher in ski season. For this price range, certain standards need to be met. Forbes magazine travel review puts it as the hotel to stay in Sapporo. For that alone I should cancel my Forbes magazine subscription

Excellent hotel centrally located in Sapporo and right next door to a giant mall with various food options as well as JR Sapporo station. The rooms are uniquely Japanese with a 80s vibe - perfectly clean and comfortable. The one improvement that would be a huge plus is more vegetarian options in the restaurants. Sapporo is still a little behind the times compared to Tokyo or Kyoto in this regard. The staff is friendly and super helpful.

Stayed for 6 nights with my husband and 10-year old son after our ski trip in Niseko. All the staff in the lobby were extremely polite and helpful at all times. However, most of them do not speak fluent English. We had lunch at the Lobby Lounge upon our arrival, and I would say it totally surprised us. Although the food choices were limited, however, the food all tasted extremely good especially all the hot dishes. We even went back again before we checked out.
Room was bigger than most of the hotels in Tokyo as we stayed in a Moderate Twin Room, however, the two beds were too small for 3 of us. It would be enough for 2 adults only. The front desk was kind enough to upgrade us to a higher floor so we could enjoy the view. The washroom sink and tub looked very old which deserve to be changed to a new one. The two chairs in the room were oversized and taking up space in the room. Lastly, housekeeping was not attentive enough as they always gave us only 2 sets of towels and amenities while we have 3 people staying in the room. We had to request for extra set every single day!
Best was location as it’s right on top of JR station and a few large shopping malls. Given the cold weather in Hokkaido, I would recommend this hotel if you want to enjoy shopping without having to worry about going out in the cold and carrying all the heavy jackets in the malls.

The check-in service was impeccable. Staff were ready to bring our luggage to our rooms (without a tip. This is Japan), staff at every corner were ready to greet you or hold the door for you.
The daily cleaning was perfect too. I would like to point out the Japanese attention to details which never fail to amaze me. The room cleaning team actually tidied up my charging cables with a clip.
The view and location are amazing too. In cold weather, we can actually avoid the cold when going for dinner.

We had a very good one night stay at the JR Tower Hotel Nikko in Sapporo. The location is very central. Rooms are of a good size and are very clean. What makes a hotel special is the staff, and this was the case with this hotel. Ms Naho Nakagawa at the Reception desk was VERY patient and helpful. There was a toddler in our group and she went the extra mile to make the little one happy. ||The bathroom was bright and clean (I do dislike dark bathrooms very much!!) . Our family of 4 adults and a toddler had 2 side by side rooms on the 28th floor. The pillows were really comfortable, with one soft one and one hard one for each bed. The carpet was clean and nice fluffy complimentary slippers were provided.||Two things I did not like about the room: the room lights above the writing desk and tv were out of order and I could not find any English TV channels.||Breakfast - we tried the western buffet style breakfast. We will be coming back for another 2 night stay at the end of this month (April 2025) and will try the Japanese style breakfast then.

Despite the aging of accommodation, this hotel is my top choice in Sapporo in terms of the most convenient access to food and shopping in the same complex and to/ from airport. There is no other option especially during snow season when you don’t have to walk outside and able to find food and all shopping indoor. The service and hospitality are superior to make it up for the aging room and facilities.

This is our second time staying in the JR Tower Hotel. It's a landmark building, and all rooms are above the 23rd floor. We chose the corner room on the 32nd floor with towering window views of the city. We enjoyed the calmness and elegance in the hotel. The staff are nice and bright, ready to serve their guests. For breakfast, we dined at the Japanese restaurant TANCHO and it amazed us the same as SKY J (western buffet) that we chose last time. There are various options for cuisine: French restaurant, bar, lobby lounge and banquet hall.
This hotel also features great location with direct access to Sapporo, so easy to recognize it from anywhere in the area. We registered for its One Harmony Membership and were offered special room rates.

Unbeatable location, and well appointed rooms. Not expansive, but this is to be expected in the heart of a major city and right at the station. Amazing view of the train tracks from my room. The standout was the level of service from the front desk, lobby, and lounge staff. Some of the best I have ever experienced!
The buffet breakfast was also excellent, with a wide variety. Highlights were the Hokkaido cheeses and honey, as well as the salmon roe (ikura)
The onsen was also a nice experience, especially in the morning when only hotel guests are allowed

Yelp
On the second leg of our japan trip we stayed at this hotel as our base for a few days as we explored other parts of hokkaido. Located directly next to the train station, this hotel is centrally located to the train and subway station. In addition, there is a Daimaru shopping center nearby with a basement food hall and plenty of other shopping options. You honestly cant beat the location if your a tourist. Because of the location the hotel does cater to tourists, and there are plenty of folks who speak english, and/or chinese. The staff here is also very helpful and accomodating and were able to store our luggage in between our stays as we ventured out for other day trips to other areas. Overall we felt that the room was clean and on par with other japanese style hotels. I know others have indicated that the room is somewhat small but having stayed at multiple hotels throughout japan, i would say that is very comparable. Overall a great location for any traveler.

Yelp
Anyway, this hotel's location was quite super. This hotel was connected directly to the JR Sapporo station. That's quite convenient. This JR tower contained the Daimaru department store and the Stella place shopping mole. It had many shops and restaurants and cafes. That's also much convenient. Hotel itself was normal. Each room's breadth was very ordinary. Clean and cozy. Some amenity needs to request to have. This hotel's superiority was it's great breakfast buffet. Buffet restaurant was located at the top of the tower. The view was great.Variety and volume of buffet was quite super. It was occupied in Hokkaido specialties. You may reference my images. Enjoy you stay at Sapporo here!

Yelp
I like that this hotel is located close to the JR line (which is downstairs) and has many stores, shops and restaurants closeby. The room is a bit small, but it was ok for 4 girls. The shower could have been a bit smaller to give more room to the sink area, but I really liked that they gave haribrushes, toothbrushes, and razors in the room haha. Recommend when staying in Hokkaido!
