Jardín Etnobotánico de Oaxaca

One of my favorite experiences in Oaxaca! I arrived 4:45pm and they sat us in chairs to give us our tickets (50 pesos). I think there were 2 groups of 30. My group start at 4:58pm and the other group maybe a bit after 5pm. Arrive at least 15 minutes ahead of the tour times to get a spot. The tour is usually 40-45 minutes, but mine was a bit over an hour because my group asked lots of questions. Our guide (I forget her name) was very knowledgeable and answered everyone's questions in detail. Tours are only in Spanish according to the sign at the entrance. The guide spoke very clear and at a good speed that I understood maybe 90% as someone who's not entirely fluent yet. We were never rushed and were allowed to spend time taking photos along all the paths and then catch up with the group. At the end, we had 15 minutes to take photos at the cactus walls and with the reflective pond. Everyone was nice taking photos for each other. There's multiple walkways with the cacti, so you don't have to wait long for your turn at one of them. I also liked seeing the sky change colors at the end of the tour because sunset was starting.

Pretty place to see some of the local plans and trees. Beautiful scenery. They do tours at specific times . It costs only 50 pesos . Tours are less than 1 hour.

Not a great experience at all. There are no English tours available at all as of Jan 23, 2024. See my image. The Spanish speaking gentleman who gave us the tour had us sit in three different places and listen to him. Talked for 15 minutes without a lot of time to take photos. At the very end, we were given 5 to 7 minutes to look around take photos. Disappointing. The garden has potential with a different guide and English tour.

Very thorough tour. Loved hearing the history of how the garden came to be. Also, I liked how they highlighted the many uses of the plants and raised awareness about plant poaching. I took the 1 hour tour in spanish at 10 to avoid the hottest part of the afternoon. Sombreros were provided.

What a beautiful and sustainable botanical garden. The guides are incredibly knowledgeable and share both the history and botany of the garden. This tour fills up quickly so be sure to check the times!

Very very interesting tour, absolutely stunning garden with such an attractive well designed layout. Beautiful architecture. The tour was full of interesting facts about oaxacan history, culture, food, produce, flora and fauna, you leave with a new found interest and respect for the city :) this was one of our favourite things that we did in Oaxaca! One thing to note - you are not able to walk around and view the garden independently. Tours only! When we arrived it wasn’t busy and we were able to pay, enter immediately and join a tour that was leaving in the next 10 mins. On busier days you may need to book in advance but can’t advise on that

Truly a beautiful place. You must join a guided tour for entry, but the tour is interesting and the grounds are beautiful. They do offer English tours, but I personally joined a Spanish tour and still learned a lot. If I remember correctly, entrance was around 90 pesos. Definitely worth a visit - swing by the Cultural Museum as well while you're here.

Lovely botanical garden. Please note that you can only visit as part of a guided tour. These are in Spanish mostly with one daily tour in English ( you can see times on their website) participation is in a first come first serve basis.
