Jardín Etnobotánico de Oaxaca

Truly a beautiful place. You must join a guided tour for entry, but the tour is interesting and the grounds are beautiful. They do offer English tours, but I personally joined a Spanish tour and still learned a lot. If I remember correctly, entrance was around 90 pesos. Definitely worth a visit - swing by the Cultural Museum as well while you're here.

Very very interesting tour, absolutely stunning garden with such an attractive well designed layout. Beautiful architecture. The tour was full of interesting facts about oaxacan history, culture, food, produce, flora and fauna, you leave with a new found interest and respect for the city :) this was one of our favourite things that we did in Oaxaca! One thing to note - you are not able to walk around and view the garden independently. Tours only! When we arrived it wasn’t busy and we were able to pay, enter immediately and join a tour that was leaving in the next 10 mins. On busier days you may need to book in advance but can’t advise on that

Beautiful garden that is well maintained. We found out due to short staff, the English tour was cancelled, so we joined the Spanish one at 10am instead. Great tour with informative and knowledgeable guide. However, some parts seemed rushed and were unable to truly take as many pictures as we wanted.

Lovely botanical garden. Please note that you can only visit as part of a guided tour. These are in Spanish mostly with one daily tour in English ( you can see times on their website) participation is in a first come first serve basis.

Great garden but felt very rushed; little time to explore and take photos. You are closely guided; you are not allowed to explore on your own. The guided tour was only in Spanish, which I didn't mind but also I missed a lot of useful details, and the guide was not cognizant of the fact that most guests didn't understand. Unless they make this free roam with more time, I won't recommend going unfortunately. You're not missing out on much

If you are a gardening enthusiast you will love this place - it’s not a huge garden but its variety of cacti, succulents and desert plants is not to be missed. The history of the garden is also fascinating and it’s adjacent to the cultural museum which is also a must see.

I really enjoyed my time here, our tour guide Ernesto was very knowledgeable. But please note this is not the type of place where you can walk in at anytime, you must be a part of one of the timed tours. The English speaking tour is offered at 11 AM and at 11 AM only. Tickets are not able to be purchased in advanced (from what I was told directly at the garden) and the cost for a tour is 100 pesos (about $5-6 USD).

Superb. Initially the planted cacti look a bit sparse, but the area covered with walking takes more than an hour to get through. If you like learning about tree and plant varieties native to Mexico, then this tour is for you. The heat is pretty unbearable going there most of the day. It was 37 degrees desert - like heat! We went for the Spanish tour ( I had a translator ) at 5 pm and it was comfortable as the sun's intensity was waning. Prices are also very reasonable. Look out for ' La Dormilona ' a ground-only dwelling fern-like plant that folds shut when you touch it! I have added a video of this so you know what I am talking about. Have fun!
