I was a regular customer of James Candy for several years until recently. I'm a longtime fan of Fralinger's saltwater taffy and appreciated that James Candy lets you choose your preferred flavors.
Last week I received my order. Two-thirds of the taffy in it was hard as a rock. I was afraid I'd break a tooth.
I contacted James Candy's customer service and asked if they could replace or issue a refund for the inedible taffy. In the past, I once had a similar issue and they immediately sent me a replacement. To my dismay, I received a terse reply stating that the taffy wasn't stale and that I should rub it in between my hands to soften it up. I was told that if that didn't work for me (I tried that, and it didn't work), I could send the taffy back and that once they received it, they would issue a refund. I found this disappointing in light of the fact that I had been a regular customer and they provided better customer service in the past.
Considering the cost involved, including shipping, purchasing candy from James Candy isn't cheap.
Oh and James Candy's website states: "We guarantee your complete satisfaction." In my experience, they used to, but not anymore.

The fudge store in Tropicana is where I went yesterday, September 7, 2023 to buy fudge for my mother (who is in a nursing home) and my daughters as a gift from my trip. The fudge was pre-boxed and the clerk said it was fresh. When I got home and gave it to my mother and daughters…they opened it and it was old. The fudge was packed in plastic and was disgusting. I had to throw it out! That’s the last time I spend anything there. I am letting All my crew and friends know to skip buying from them.

I bought salt water taffy for my dying aunt who wanted these in hospice. She called to tell me they were inedible and stale. Her nurse agreed. I contacted James Candy and asked if they could replace these salt water taffy with the butter mints. I called. I emailed. I mailed. No response. I’m shocked.

We had to get some original Salt Water Taffy before leaving the Atlantic Ciry Boardwalk. We went I to this fun Store and loaded up. Amazing fresh quality. I, now, will never buy any other brand

Fair but some flavors like peach have zero peach flavor. Taste like wax. Vanilla has minor flavor as does the bannan. Orange, Chocolate and lime pretty good.

Placed order on December 7, 2018. It was supposed to be a Christmas gift for my 95 year old mother in law. As of today, 12/28/18, the order has not even shipped! We tried to call and email numerous times and get no response, or a call back from a supevisor, which they promise every time you call. I have not yet gotten a call back or a reply. When you call the number for James Candy Company, you are directed to some call service in somewhere like India. The people do not have any idea what is going on, and they cannot help you in anyway. Worst service ever.
Worst online buying experience ever
I have been scammed by a fake candy company!!

1/23/19 Update: the company refunded our money and then sent a free box of candy to my mother in law. It took months and hours on the phone to get this issue fixed, but I upped my review to 2 stars since they tried to make it right.

Since when you click on one star google thinks you hated the location you are reviewing and since I really can't say this was a place I hated I decided instead to go with two stars. As for the reason for the dislike of the store I will tell you the story as to why I came in here and why I was so disappointed. For years I have been going to Ocean City a time or two during the year and with those trips I usually get on the boardwalk that includes a stop at Shrivers salt water taffy where I would usually grab a couple pounds of assorted flavors of the taffy to last through the next few months. Since I hadn't had a chance to get there since March of last year but thought that with the annual trip to Steel Pier that maybe Atlantic City might have a store that would sell the taffy where I could get some. When I searched Google for a store I found this store to be only a few blocks from where I would be and then to put the icing on the cake it had the same name as my 5 month old grandson. Upon entering the store I found the taffy and began making my selection but then after choosing three or four flavors I found some of the taffy sticking to my hand. When I looked at the taffy I noticed it was oozing out of the wrapper and not just on a piece or two but many of that flavor as well as several of the others I thought about getting. I thought about putting the ones back I had already grabbed but didn't feel like separating them so I went ahead and bought them. When I got them home that night and ate a couple over the next couple days I noticed that several of the pieces were stale. Next time I will hold out for Shrivers.
