Jaffna Railway Station

Jaffna Railway Station is a convenient and well-maintained station for travelers heading to or from Jaffna. We took the Night Mail train, but honestly, it’s not recommended—the seats were uncomfortable, and the journey took too long. If comfort and time matter, the Balloon Bus is a much better option. We arrived early in the morning, and having a restroom available was really helpful. We could freshen up with a face wash and use the toilet, which, while not luxurious, was clean and usable. There’s also a canteen for a quick meal or tea. One of the most interesting things about the station is that they offer super cheap rooms on the upper floor—a great option for budget travelers who need a place to rest for a few hours. Overall, Jaffna Railway Station is well-maintained and provides the basics needed for travelers, but the train journey itself might not be the best experience.

After the war, Jaffna Railway Station has been constructed beautifully. We visited a few years back and were impressed with the cleanliness and the overall condition of the station. The train service from Colombo to Jaffna is excellent, making travel convenient and comfortable. The station is well-maintained, and the journey itself is scenic and enjoyable. Highly recommended for anyone traveling to Jaffna.

Clean and well maintained Station and surrounding. There are instructions available in English-Sinhala-Tamil and counters are available for ticket reservations and purchasing.Upon entering and leaving the station your tickets will be checked.

I visited Sri Lanka in Feb 2019 and Jaffna was last place i visited during my trip. Jaffna Railway station is well maintained and one of the cleanest in Sri Lanka. there's plenty of chairs to sit while wait for train. There's cafeteria as well where you can buy snacks and i guess have lunch/Dinner.

It has a small cafe offering drinks and food you can take on the train. There is an ATM. The railway station in Jaffna is being reconstructed by the Sri Lanka Railways with the assistance of Bank of Ceylon. The Jaffna Railway Station has been specially reconstructed with modern facilities while preserving its ancient architecture. The reconstructed railway track has been designed with a speed potential of 120 kmph. Rail joints are minimized using the latest modern welding technology. Pre-stressed concrete sleepers have been used to lay the tracks, instead of the traditional wooden sleepers. This Railway Station was rebuilt after the war and is today it is very well maintained railway station in the country. This station is very spacious and there are many reputed hotels ok it's border making it very convenient for travellers visiting the Jaffna area.
