"Jade is very important to the Chinese and represents long life, good health, and beauty. Do your homework if you want a serious piece—for example, the best jade is translucent and green; the stuff to avoid is opaque with brown or gray bits. Hundreds of stalls sell jade pendants, bangles, earrings, and good-luck charms based on the year you were born and the animals of the Chinese zodiac. You’ll find loose stones plus pearls and semiprecious jewelry of all styles. Pick up something you like, but unless you’re an expert, think twice about buying an expensive piece of jade here, as there could definitely be fakes in the mix."

10 Best Markets in Hong Kong

"Chinese people consider jade an auspicious stone that brings both good luck and good health. The Jade Market is the primary place to buy it: There are no more than a couple dozen stalls, but it's filled to the rafters with everything from souvenir ornaments to meticulously handcarved pendants and beads. If you'd rather buy a piece of set jewelry, head south from the Market, to the jade jewelers of Canton Road, a.k.a. "Jade Street." - Janice Leung Hayes

Another positive review for Sandra at stall 152. She was super nice and patient with my two little boys buying souvenirs. Zero pushiness, some folks just aren’t into that and it’s ok. I didn’t bother haggling as the prices seemed fair from the start. Will happily go back to her again on our next visit.

An amazing experience shopping here at the Jade market. You can enjoy bargain hunts and authentic finds. The shop owners are friendly and play with your bargaining skills . A must visit when in HK.

This is second time we are in this Jade Market and this round we met Sandra Chau and his brother, Kelvin at their stall at 152. Both are very nice and finally we got the type and color of jade that we are looking for. Many choices and very reasonable price for the quality of jade that offer to us. Thank you!!

A lot of jades. The problem is sellers are almost forcing you to come to their store, so you can’t freely go and choose. Aggressive selling. I don’t want to stay there any longer because of that

You can find anything made of jade. If you look well, there are good items. But they start harassing you the moment you walk in. I don’t like to be touched. They keep talking and not leaving you alone. If I was left alone, I would’ve gotten some more stuff, but you wanna leave straightaway because of the attitude. I got couple of earrings. They started with $60-70. I paid $50. It’s still too much for what it’s for any you can probably haggle more, but I was hungry and wanted leave asap lol Most of them ask for ridiculous prices. One of them wanted £7000 for a stone: no certificate, a lot of scratches. They’re definitely taking the piss. You can definitely get better quality and style in shopping centres for the same value. It was a different experience, but not worth the effort. I felt completely exhausted from trying to escape from people when I left.

Google
Yes but where’s the quality. The product looked fake and gives you an impression it’s made of glass or cheap stone rather than Jade. Half the stores were closed shut on one March Sunday afternoon.

Never sure if you are getting the real stuff or not. Best tip. Go early. Apparently, the salespeople believe it is lucky to have a sale early in the morning. Haggling. Pay what you think the value is. Eg if the say 100 try 20 or 30.. and be poker faced. It's almost guaranteed within 4 stalls you will find a similar or same item.

Was a sweet surprise. I was happy I met Sandra, stall 152, she was very helpful and sweet personality, not pushy at all and will give you good prices! You'll feel overwhelmed by many people there but it is a market after all 😊! It's also close to a lovely temple which is a plus! -JC

Yelp
I purchased a few jade bracelets here on my last trip. My HKg GF came with me. It is a clapboard shell with rows and and rows of stalls full of jewelry products. Much of the stuff looks the same. My friend spoke in Mandarin and did all the haggling. Yes, buyer beware. The sellers at all the stalls love cash and the USD was favorable over HKD. I was pleased with the 3 braceletsI got ($40), even though I wasn't sure if it was quality jade. Recently I had to restring a beaded bracelet and asked if the jade was "real." Turns out that my pieces are of decent quality nephrite and could retail here in the States for much more. Just experience of shopping there was worth it!

Yelp
I'm not entirely sure whether you can consider a market to be a tourist attraction, though in a way it is probably better that, say going to a shopping centre, namely because then tend to be so much more alive. Yeah, this is basically the situation with this place, it is alive, despite the only thing that they sell is jade. Honestly, it didn't impress me all that much, particularly since every second vendor is attempting to flog off some over priced trinket to you, though of course you do have the option of talking them down.

Yelp
Tons of fake jade being sold out of huge bins. People approach you as your walking by & they are very pushy to buy their "real" jade. Don't believe it even for a minute Row upon row of table upon table of the same bracelets, earrings, charms f all kinds of colors.... There maybe some real dealers here but it would be impossible to discern which are which, unless you're a gemologist & always remember, you get what you pay for

Yelp
If you're in Hong Kong, the Jade Market is a fun stop near pretty temples and gardens. There are tons of vendors selling just about anything you can make in Jade. I got beautiful jade earrings for $7. You can barter with vendors and the more you buy the cheaper they go. Lots of things to make great gifts for your friends back home!

Yelp
The stall owners inside the bazaar are so agressive and it knocked down the experience. For amount of product, they get a 3.5. For vendors aggressiveness in wanting to make a sale, they get a 1. I have been to many night markets, retail shops, etc. around Hong Kong, but it was only here that I felt they were so extremely aggressive. So just know that if you go, you kind of need to understand it is OK to be firm and say "NO"...because I was approached by none short of 30 stall vendors while walking this jade bazaar. And they will get right up to you and try to stear you towards their stall. I am sure because I am cacasian, I stick out as a retail target, but just know quality of the market vendors before you go. So much product and quick aggressive vendors make it tough to stop, look and take it all in. There are two buildings that comprise this bazaar and they are easy to spot once you are in this area. They are two one story, red buildings that are side by side (more like shacks!). One is larger than the other, but they have the same stuff. There is a ton of jade product...a lot of jewelry, pendants, necklaces, pearls, trinkets, etc. I am not a gemologist, but I do love and buy jewelry, and this is more cosmetic or "jade stones" versus the real deal of jade in my opinion....because the reality of real deal jade is that they would not have to be so pushy if it was the real deal. Lots or jade bracelets! Tons of them. You can tell some real jade is being sold, but I feel like this is exception and not the rule with this market. Maybe a place to get jade trinkets for gifts for friends back home or something. Just know what you are getting yourself into...or bring your friend the gemologist who does not mind pushy, aggessive vendors.

Yelp
I was too afraid to get haggled and pulled in. I found he stall booth that I read up on from Trip Advisor and I'm pleased with the results.
