"In an ambiance of 19th-century splendor, enjoy the best of Dutch theater in Amsterdam’s neo-Renaissance-style municipal theater on Leidseplein. Designed like a court theater with grand stairs, red velvet curtains, golden chandeliers, and seating for different social ranks (including a special box for the king), it’s the perfect venue for a sophisticated night out on one of the city’s liveliest public squares. Many productions include English subtitles." - MATADOR_NETWORK

"This imposing 1894 neo-Renaissance-style red-brick building on the famed Leidseplein is home to Toneelgroep Amsterdam , the largest theater company in the Netherlands. Both classic plays and modern dramas are staged in its two major halls. The Grote Zaal (or Big Room) is the historic, 900-seat, horseshoe-shaped auditorium, which features ornate chandeliers, a magnificent painted ceiling, and tiered red-velvet seating. The Rabozaal is a state-of-the-art addition constructed in 2009; with around 500 seats, it often hosts international theater companies. While most productions at Stadsschouwburg are performed in Dutch, both venues feature English subtitles for Thursday-night shows. During intermission, be sure to check out the hallways, with paintings and busts of actors who have performed here since the theater’s founding."

I am amazed by this theater, it has so much character. I saw a play about Alfa Romeo and since then, i keep looking at alfista’s everyhere. I loved everything about the building.

This building is a museum in its self with grand hallways, chandeliers and interesting artwork hanging around the building. It is clearly styled in art nouveau and prepairs the cultural mind before your see your theatre. Mind you, if you have front row balcony seats, be prepared to for limited legroom! Definitely worth the visit!

Looks gorgeous from.the outside, following the same architectural style of the Rijksmuseum or Amsterdam Centraal

We had a pretty bad experience last night. We went to see Giovanni's Room (a wonderful play!) and got there one hour earlier because seating was free. 30min before the announced starting time, the foyer was completely packed. Yet they didn't start letting people in until less than 20min before. Then the QR code scanner at our entrance wasn't working, so the guy had to read every ticket... And when we finally got through, it turned out that the hall itself was still closed. The crowd was stuck on the staircases for another 10+ minutes... The staff looked nervous but nobody explained anything. The whole thing felt more like boarding a Ryanair flight than attending a stage play. It was a total organisational failure.

A great theatre to go and visit. The outside design is really great. The inside is also really cool. Really worth taking some pictures of it amd passing by if you plan on going on a trip to Amsterdam. The outside architecture at night is really nice with all the lights on it.

The International Theater Amsterdam is an impressive building. It looks stately from the outside, and much of the interior has been preserved, perhaps with some touch-ups and/or renovations. We watched the Introdans (Spring) performance. Last year, we saw Fall in Amstelveen. We were truly impressed by the opening. Wow, it was amazing how they started at a long table. The dancers move very gracefully. Of course, you have some favorites among them, but overall, it was an impressive performance. It's a pity that they dance without an orchestra. Having live music would complete the experience. That's why I love going to the National Ballet, where you get to see an orchestra accompanying the dancers. The theater has seats that are very comfortable. The staff is friendly and works quickly during the intermission.

Gorgeous early neoclassical building with many basic neoclassical elements and Art Nouveau embellishments. You need to slow down and note this theaters elements and make sure and note it's neighbor- the cafe American

Fantastic ATMOSPHERE, inside as well as sitting outside viewing the Leidsesquare. The lounge area even more fantastic with the fabulous decoration for the ITA dance performance Atmen by Nicole Beutler.
